13 days till we arrive at the villas at WL! I'm beyond excited I did our airline check in this afternoon

Last of the Lodge…Mis. shots:

The past couple of visits, I've noticed that the trees aren't being trimmed as much, which is obstructing some of the views:

Not the Blue Flag, but the MK boat, which can accommodate wheelchairs and open strollers. This cruiser usually operates during EMH and busier times of the year. Cruisers can also be dispatched to accommodate those in wheelchairs/ECVs.

Kook,

Thanks for all the great pics ... I kind of like the full foliage effect

The WL laundry was closed when I was there last week. There are photos of the WL laundry before rehab (last summer) in the LAUNDRY/GUEST SERVICES chapter of the thread. They are converting the laundry rooms over to credit card-only usage. The CR was already converted and these are the photos from CR's laundry which I suspect will be just like WL:

...
Thanks for these! These photos answered several questions I had in the best way possible.

Before I get to multi-multi-multi-quoting, I just want to let everyone know that the new pool, bar and splash area look great. Don't let the crowds in the photos worry you, after all, it was spring break.

I think that construction and maintenance is inevitable at all the resorts throughout the year. If you go to any resort not expecting to encounter some maintenance, you're going to be more disappointed. The Poly was a disaster when I last saw it in July. This time, the GCH, bungalows and Lava pool were open, (I posted those photos to the Poly thread). There is still a lot of construction at the Poly, but what I last saw under construction in July, is now being enjoyed by many, such as Trader Sam's. When I'm there next in August, I'm certain I will experience more improvements, but also more construction, such as the closure of the quiet pool. I think this is the status quo from now on at most resorts.

Now for the (potentially) bad news. Some major changes will be coming soon to WL. DVC is a huge and fast income generator for Disney. Some Poly Longhouses were just converted to DVC Studios and I mentioned a while back that it was rumored by WDW1974, on another forum, that WL was next. WDW1974 seems to confirm his own suspicions HERE. The link is within a link that jh91 posted recently on this thread, thank you!

To summarize WDW1974's post linked above, he confirms (but, I don't know his source), that in-water "WL-themed bungalows" will be added along with a DVC CL lounge, another WL CL lounge (?) and an Artist Point rehab. I wonder if the WL CL lounge is more of an expansion than addition? I did talk to a CM who confirmed that the CL manager's office was going to be converted into a bathroom, which the CL floor currently does not have. The CM wouldn't confirm nor deny the DVC conversion.

Another member of the forum linked above, posted that he was told by two WL managers, (I can't confirm this), that two floors of the south wing will be converted into DVC. This would match with the mysterious gutting of two ground floor south wing rooms observed by JnKinVA. A while back, JnKinVA posted a couple of photos on this thread of two ground floor rooms in the south wing being stripped. I suspect this was a model DVC Studio that was being built, but I have no confirmation of this. I went to those two rooms last week, but the sliding glass doors were completely covered - blimey!

Thanks much!!!

Thanks to you too, Kook! May I also put in a request for 'new' resort specific merchandise pics. If you hear that they may use some Disney Magic to bring a little shade around the newly renovated, now seemingly shadeless pool (or other pool deck related info...) please share! ;). Again, safe travels and Enjoy!

The Poly's (now-called) Lava Pool just opened. I noticed that like WL, the only umbrellas were at a couple of tables (my photos are in the Poly thread). With the addition of the fences, I think that square footage in deck areas has decreased, along with shady foliage:(. In fact, Poly no longer has cabanas due to room constraints. Unfortunately, I don't think umbrellas and shady areas will be added to any pools once all the fences are in place.

Hi All,

This is my first post on disboards and I just had to say thanks to everyone has shared the wealth of knowledge! Our family is making our first trip May 21-26 and staying at Wilderness Lodge and we're so excited! It's myself, my husband, our two girls (6 & 4) and our 8 month old son. We've booked a bunk bed room and I just did online check in requesting highest floor. It would be nice to be able to see the fireworks but the 60 day online check in is as much work as I'm going to put in to it! (I'm way too busy stalking A&E FP+!).

I haven't read this thread in about a week and I'm sure it's posted somewhere else so forgive me if I'm being lazy but, does anyone know the transportation arrangements for the 24 hours of MK that they will be doing?

We have 6:10 AM (!!!) FP+ for A&E and I'm just not sure how we'll be able to get there since we won't have a car with us. I'm assuming though that Disney, as always, has this covered.

My sister and her family stayed at WL a few years ago and just raved about it so we can't wait to experience for ourselves!
We are honored that your first post was here on our nifty thread. :welcome: to the DIS!

I'm not sure if people have seen this news but there was a construction permit filed for WL and it does not expire until 12/17/2017. In this thread http://forums.wdwmagic.com/threads/wilderness-lodge-rehab.897594/ they are speculating it might have to do with converting rooms on the south wing to DVC rooms which i know Kook has mentioned a few times as a possibility.

I will be curious to see where this goes. We will be at VWL in October and we were also there last Oct when all the pool construction was happening, so i am praying our trip this year will not again be filled with construction.

Thank you for posting the link and please see my comments above.

When leaving hotel #1, leave your luggage with Bell Services. Tell them you want it transferred to hotel #2. They will take care of it!

Go about your day and when returning to hotel #2, retrieve your bags from Bell Services.

Please be aware that bags are transferred only late afternoon. We had to wait until 4 PM on time for our bags to arrive. That's why recommend going on with your day, and only getting your bags when you're done.
That is exactly how it works, but I thought I read last month that Disney will be doing away with resort-resort luggage transfers? I can't recall where I read that though.

Hi all- I'm new to this group and I haven't been on these boards since our last Disney trip in 2009. First of all, I would like to say thank you to Kook for an amazing amount of specific and updated information about WL! I have read thorough all of the posts and found many other members to be extremely helpful as well.

We will be stay at WL for the first time 8/7-8/16, club level standard room. This was only possible with the 30% off and free hopper pin code. We are beyond excited! We have never stayed at a deluxe resort before and CL is something we never thought we'd be able to afford. Ever.
It will be me, DH, DS13, and DD10.

A have a couple of quick questions I was hoping some of you helpful folks would know:
Are all standard club level rooms on the 7th floor? (I know deluxe rooms on any floor have CL access). We want to be on the 7th floor..
Is skim milk available?
TIA!
Welcome to the thread and congratulations on booking the OFC! I believe someone already posted that all the STD CL rooms are on the 7th floor and yes, non-fat milk is available in the purple carton:

Haven't visited the thread in awhile (and have to update the signature) but we are getting close to our next trip to the Lodge (April 25)! We had originally booked last October but switched out to the Grand RPC due to the refurb--geez I still have to post my review - it was great :)

Can't wait to be back, see the new pool, and the great OFC staff!
You are getting close and I'd still like to see your RPC review if you get a chance.

Just booked a courtyard view oct 16-24! So excited. We're usually beach people so this is a change for us. Hoping the transportation goes well as well!
I'll log your dates and…we have a BEACH!!

7/3 to 7/17 1st time at WL (& Disney World as well)
You are going to LOVE WL and WDW! I'll put your dates in the Lodgers' Log.

We are here now, haven't had time to log on, well, if I've had time I've been too exhausted, ha! We have two days left. I just want to pop in and say how much I love it. I'll post more when we are back, but it's been lovely just lovely at WL!

The mattresses are great, the bunk beds the most awesome thing ever! Our room has a pretty view of trees, walking path, and the top of the villas. Oh, and a bit of the path from the bus area to the lodge (which is beautiful at night, btw). I'll post the room number after I'm home. This room also only has one neighbor, the other side is the hallway to the rest of the south wing. It is relatively quiet except the occasional cow bells and service carts (cow bell I love....); I am torn between requesting high otter next time (I'm totally planning a next time!!!) or this again; this room is very private and I love it. The roasted beef sandwich from raising forks is divine, the kids love the pool and I love the hot tubs. We realize we are rope drop to 1-2ish people (at least at this crazy time) and are so happy to have WL to come home to. This has been a fantastic first visit, and WL has been a part of that! The only thing we don't love is the sometimes reallllllly long bus waits. We decided to take a taxi to AK tomorrow after seeing the huge crowd waiting for that bus this morning. OH, the boat ride back from MK is possibly my favorite thing here, in all of WDW! We go back to MK on Friday (our last day) and I'm looking forward to that last boat home in the afternoon.

I need a little nap before our whispering canyon dinner. See ya when I'm home!
Thank you for posting while you were there. When do you think you might return? Did you book a BB?

Heya, they don't list a weight limit, but they do say never allow a child under 6 on upper bunk, and to prohibit horseplay on or under beds, and to prohibit more than one person on upper bunk. There are other things written, too, but those only look like ones somewhat related to weight (though not really, I guess).

Wonder if the ponies are okay?
IMG_0366.JPG

Just stopping by to say hello. We spent the last two spring breaks at VWL and I loved it. This year we decided a villa room was out of the budget. The family wanted to try something new instead of getting a regular room at WL. So we leave Friday and will be at the Yacht Club all week. Hope to be back at VWL next year.

I am excited about trying a new place and being so close to EPCOT. But also nervous we will not love it as much as the lodge. I am one of those people that likes familiarity so I usually do not like new places at first.

Last year VWL just felt like home from the second we arrived. Hoping I like YC too and then who knows maybe I will have to do split stays.
Hope your travels went well. We did a split with YC and WL last summer. We loved being able to walk to Epcot, eat at YC and B&C and use SAB, but we were happy we were also staying at WL. Trying new resorts is always fun, but I think you'll have mixed feelings - let us know.

DD10 was dismayed to learn that DH is going back to Orlando in May for a conference. Seriously, he was just here in March for a meeting!

Little does she know that we will all be at WL in 10 days!! Can't wait for Easter to give them their puzzle to solve!
Mary
How exciting!

I just added an extra day to our stay! I asked my husband last night, and he said, "Why are you even asking? Yes!"

So we'll be at WL from 10/29-11/3!!!!
I love the Add-a-Day!!

Does anyone know what the pool hours are in Sept? Wondering when the pool opens since we have a young child who is up early, mind as well go swimming on days we won't be at the parks early!
If the WL pool is closed, you can still use the VWL pool.

Hello everyone. We are staying at WL in June and it will be our first time staying onsite at WDW. We are coming up on our 60 day window for online check in, and I was hoping to request a view room. We are staying with a Courtyard view and bunk beds. I was thinking about requesting a NW or NE facing room, hopeful that we could get a view of pool, and bay lake either on the 5th or 6th level. My concerns are (a) Where is the scaffolding located? (b) Will there be a problem with the scaffolding for June arrivals? (c) also if anyone has any of these rooms that they have stayed in and could post pics/references/or their thoughts that would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Welcome! I have CYV photos posted in the ROOM and SUITE chapters of the thread. If you've booked a CYV then just request an INNER CYV. This will be of the geyser, pool and Bay Lake. You will need to call to add your request. Only floor numbers can be requested via OCI. You can also have them note that you would like to be away from scaffolding. Some 6th floor rooms have solid balcony railings, but none of the 5th floor rooms do.

Sorry to say we switched out reservation to the Poly so please remove us from the log. Still plan to visit WL though and hope to stay next time!!
Aloha!

That would be really interesting to see the blacksmith at work. Did the horses mind getting shod?
One horse was quite skittish, the draft with beautiful white "feathers." She was jumpy from noises made by a new electric grinder they were using. The other two were as calm as cucumbers.

About to book 5 nights in a Deluxe Room - Club Level Access 4/16-4/21 for a little solo get away and wanted some quick feedback on room choices when I do the check in information.

So you're booked in a Deluxe room all by yourself? Those rooms all have two queens and none are on the CL floor. Have you considered a Honeymoon Suite? There are four of them, all with Kings and all on the CL floor. I see you're six days out though so they might not still be available, but they are cheaper. Room requests generally need to be in your reservation at least 5 days prior to arrival, rooms can start being assigned then.

We are excited to be staying for the first time at VWL in 2 weeks. My DS14 is interested in doing the fishing that they offer. Would anyone have any type of guestimate as to how much that is $$? Also any other activities that would be great for first timers? TIA

I understand that the resorts are getting new washing machines/dryers that you can use a credit card with instead of bringing change. Does anyone know if they are in VWL yet? Also, does anyone know if it will start charging DVC guests staying on points? It has always been free to use the machines for DVC members staying at a DVC resort. Since we usually stay in a studio that has been a great perk for us. I hope it doesn't get taken away. Any insight would be very helpful!

And I love this thread! Since we are returning to stay at the VWL this summer (July 8-16), I've been checking out all the tips here. We haven't been here since 2005 so I'm excited to be back. Love the ambiance. And everyone is so friendly, helpful, and positive on this thread.

Thanks for any answers you can give!
I haven't heard about the DVC laundry changing their policy.

We're home from spring break and don't even know where to start with our fantastic WL stay! This was our third stay at WL, but our first stay in the Old Faithful Club. Wow. We've stayed in all the CLs except for YC, and Old Faithful is our new favorite. A quick review:

Check-In. We arrived via taxi after spending a couple nights at Pop. A CM was waiting for us and already knew we had a CL reservation (not always the case at other resorts, in our experience.) He took us upstairs where CM Mike finished our check-in. This guy is great. Friendly, genuine, informative, helpful. Gave us a quick tour of the club lounge (including the very important "to go" cups!) explained operating hours and invited us to ask for anything we needed while the serving area was closed. (More on that later.) Told us our room would be ready shortly (even though it was around 9am!) and that it was overlooking the inner courtyard as requested. When our room ready notification arrived (about 15 minutes later!) Mike offered to take our luggage ticket and they called for Bell Services. He showed us to our room, checked to see the magic bands worked and said luggage should arrive shortly. About 10 minutes later, Mike calls the room to apologize the luggage hasn't arrived yet and took the initiative to check on status with Bell Services. Luggage arrives and we're on our way to MK. We're already loving this - they are really on top of things at WL CL.

Lounge. I love this lounge. I love the view into the lobby. I love the view out to the lake. I love the fact that the children's area is visible from all around the lounge but we're all spread out comfortably. Wonderful to have all that space. Truly relaxing. Everything about this lounge is comfortable and I so appreciate that the seating area is available even when the food service area is closed. Speaking of which, when Mike said we could ask for something while the food service area was closed, he meant it. Every time we asked for a soda, wine or snack, CMs were friendly, helpful and receptive. They went above-and-beyond repeatedly. For example, I asked for wine and a CM brought a glass of wine and a to-go cup with more for a refill. I asked whether I could check out a deluxe room because we might book one for our next visit and the CM (really wish I could remember his name - he was so helpful) gave me a quick tour and answered questions about the room type. We just enjoyed being there. And our oldest son declared that Keith is the best CM on property. We also love the CMs at BWI, but our teen sons are not as much into having a full conversation with CMs at this stage - so the WL CL CMs are a great fit for that right now.

Kids' area is really cute and well-located. Nice to have the crayons and coloring pages available. Our youngest son made many friends and we were fortunate to have a great group of fellow guests there during our stay.

Breakfast is just OK, but we're not really into breakfast anyway. I do prefer the hard boiled eggs and the meats/cheeses they offered at BC this weekend. Evening appetizers, however, were great. Since this was our first CL stay at WL, we can't compare it to offerings in the past. But WL offered so much food - we were very surprised. Just a bit of what I can recall . . . one hot appetizer (examples: chicken tenders, conch fritters, bacon wrapped scallops), a soup (salmon chowder, beef stew) a salad (caesar, caprese) a sandwich (egg salad on roll, turkey roll ups) cheese and crackers, fruit, veggies and dip, sourdough bread with red pepper hummus and gouda spread. We never use CL as a meal substitute, other than for breakfast, but we can't really eat much more after WL appetizers. In the future, we'll usually pair WL CL stays with TS lunches and CS dinners. It worked best when our dinner plans were for Territory Lounge or the F&G outdoor kitchen stands.

Rooms. We stayed at WL before the refurb and these rooms are such a significant improvement. It's not my favorite theme, but it's so well done that it doesn't matter. Beds are comfy and triple sheeting is clean and fresh. Appreciate the dimmer lights for the evening. I rarely comment on housekeeping, but they were great - we called late one night for extra bedding and they arrived within minutes. While I couldn't see out to the lake while sitting on the balcony, we had a beautiful view when standing and I liked the enclosed balcony while reading. Love the faux wood entry and the bathroom is clean, well-themed and very cute. Our room was incredibly close to the lounge, and that was another huge benefit.

Pool. The new splash pad is spectacular and our youngest son loves it. The pool slide is just OK, but as our oldest teen son says, we're not at Disney for the pool slide. The quiet pool looked great, and I'm hoping to spend time there during our next WL stay. It was the week before Easter, so the main pool was crowded, but that's the case everywhere. And we're not fans of the loud pool games, but again, that's everywhere and I get why all the resorts have them. I really appreciate the proximity of the pool to our room on the 7th floor - just a quick elevator ride and we're there.

Location/Transportation. There is some benefit to a more remote location, and all the other great things about WL on this trip made that apparent. It's so quiet, peaceful and remote. The quick boat ride to CR gave us access to the monorail and everything around it. On a rainy afternoon, we traveled to Poly - and actually enjoyed the journey. We used the bus sometimes, but we really loved mixing it up with boats and the monorail. Yay for Captain Carl and his pirate jokes. :) We walked the path to Fort Wilderness one evening - a fun mini adventure and nostalgic to see the front of the old River Country that's now Mickey's Backyard BBQ. We're looking forward to renting sea racers during our next stay.

WL CL exceeded our expectations in so many ways - we'll be back next year!

Didn't I tell you you'd love it;). Thank you for posting your thorough review - I almost could have written it! I'm so glad you interacted with Mike. He is a real OFC fixture and CL wouldn't be the same without him.

Needed a quick Granddaughter/Grandmother trip so just book AP discount and coming on May 10th sadly going home on May14. This will be our first visit to Wilderness Lodge.
I bet it won't be your last! I'll log your dates.

Anyone know what time the Wilderness Lodge campfire is in May? It was 6:30pm in March, but I'm thinking 7pm or 7:30pm in May?
Last June it started at 6:45 and the movie started at 8:30.

So excited to be coming in next Tues with my DD. This will be our first visit to WL. Thanks Pixarmom for your great review! Wood Nymph I have always enjoyed what a great job you do on this site!:):)

If you want to add us we are only there for a quick trip....4/14-4/16 staying CL. Thanks!
It's almost time! I'll put you in the Lodgers' Log.

The merchandise photos come back to haunt me! I should have purchased that travel mug and that hoodie. Funny that we loved our return to WL and our first stay at OFC so much, because "wilderness" is not a term frequently associated with my family or with me! :)
You'll just HAVE to go back;)

I like that throw pillow:)
It's really unique. Why didn't I get one?:scratchin

Are those free standing umbrellas in the pool area or tables with umbrellas attached?
Tables with umbrellas attached. I think they used to be in the RF seating area?

Mmm...my beloved gold peak tea dispenser!! The best thing to fill my resort mug with!

And every time I see new merch, I just want to throw up my hands and say, "Here! Please, just take my money already!!"
I'm also super excited about the laundry updates :)
thank you so much for sharing the photos!!!
I kind of felt that way about the new CR merchandise. They finally have some after not having ANYTHING for over 5 years.

So excited that we are almost to our 180 day mark for a week at WL OFC. Doing a bit of last minute dining reservation planning and purchasing our MNSSHP tickets.

Does anyone know how many CM's work in the OFC on average each week?

Hope you are all having a wonderful spring!

I bet you're getting excited! Let's see, from 0630-10:00 there are a couple of shifts (opening/closing). Some CMs work double shifts so maybe there are at least 6 per shift?

13 days till we arrive at the villas at WL! I'm beyond excited I did our airline check in this afternoon
YIPPEE! It's almost time.

Kook,

Thanks for all the great pics ... I kind of like the full foliage effect
Shabby chic?

Thanks for these! These photos answered several questions I had in the best way possible.
:thumbsup2

We are driving home after 9 wonderful nights at the lodge! Our 3 boys loved the bunk beds, the pool/splash pad, and we even caught a movie on the beach.

The maintenance was a lot more widespread than I was expecting. And they were putting up a lot more scaffolding in a new area yesterday.

Overall we enjoyed our stay, but our family of five won't fit in a regular room here after this trip!

Would you guys say the scaffolding and work along with it will be going on at the end of June into early July? After seeing the crowded conditions at the one pool at the Poly ( and knowing it'll be just as bad if not worse around July 4) my sister and I were excited to give WL a try instead but we see construction of some kind is going on here too and we're running out of MK resort options for our first trip without our parents! We know things can't be perfect, but we're hoping to get in a resort without construction going on.

I've been busy at work the last few weeks and forgot about planning our vacation. Now that things have slowed down, I've logged back in and on MDE and we are 73 days out! Very exciting!
I have to remember to book fast passes at 60 days.

Just booked our very first Disney trip and will be staying in the VWL 12/13 thru 12/20 this year. It's my 40th birthday (agh!) and I'm bringing my husband, my sister, and our two wee ones who will be 4 and 2 at the time.

We booked a 2br villa thru David's -- what a wonderful service and everyone there was so lovely.

So now I'm starting to obsess over what sort of room requests we might want to make if the owners are amenable to doing so. Are there benefits to a lockoff? I saw someone write about a "table bed". My 4 year old might really love that. But I also saw another person say that lockoffs might not be great with young kids. And I'm still trying to learn about the views. Any suggestions welcome!

I really can't wait. I've always wanted to go and am enjoying the planning as much as I'll probably enjoy the vacation!

Great photos WDWKOOK. 30 days and counting.

The online check in options for the Villas are different than what is posted in the info section. There is no longer a pool option.

May you please PM me so I can send you a screen shot of it.

Hi All! Our vacation is about 2 weeks away! YAY!

I need your help again in my hunt for the perfect room. Here's what I want:

King bed, tub, south wing inner courtyard (I think), upper floor (wilderness lodge view? Inner court yard view?) no scaffolding. Porch not first floor but also not the kind of porch you can't see through.

My travel agent said "There are only 30 character spaces to put in a request, and the more simple the request, the better chance you have a receiving it." So how do I accomplish this?

Thanks for any thoughts!

I'm so excited we just booked our first stay at WL. I hear so many great things about this resort. I can't wait!! my son is more excited than me he picked the resort this time. Looking forward to the planning and most of all looking forward to a vacation.

Put your requests in the order of importance. The enclosed balconies are on the 6th floor. I always ask for an open balcony. You could ask for inner courtyard, upper springs and you should be clear of the scaffolding. If you ask for south wing you have a chance of getting the villas pool courtyard instead of the inner courtyard, so I'm not sure if you want to add south wing, unless it is really important to be on that side.

The only benefit to a lock off that I can think off is that it would have a separate door to the hallway. This could be handy if someone in your group would either come in late at night or sneak out early in the morning. The lock off would also have a kitchentte. If you don't need that then just stick with a dedicated 2br.

There is a small murphy bed that drops down from the cabinet that the TV sits on in the studio. I'm really not sure if there is one in the bedroom of a dedicated 2br. :confused3

Thank you that's super helpful. The more I think about it, with 3 adults (my husband is a snorer so I usually banish him at some point in the night!) we really need the dedicated for its 2 queens.
