Disney's Snow White vs. Mirror, Mirror

I don't quite know where to post this thread....


I just finished reading Mirror, Mirror by Gregory Maguire. His retelling of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves was really....um...out there!

I read Wicked last year and thought it was just okay, but people really raved about the stage production, so I thought I would give Maguire a second chance.

Any other Snow White devotees out there who've read it?
What did you think?

Sorry, I haven't read Mirror, Mirror yet.

I did read Wicked. I thought it was OK. Just seemed liked it was wrapped up quickly. If I find "MM" in paperback, maybe I will bring it with me for the pool.

I haven't read "Mirror, Mirror" yet but plan to one day. I tried to read "Wicked" but to be honest it bored me! However, I did see the stage production of it and thought it was fantastic! I saw it in DC at the Kennedy Center and it was just awesome.

Would be interested in hearing what others think of "MM".

I thought Wicked was out there as well. I have yet to see the stage production, and I am sure it is good, I just could not wrap my mind around the concept of it all. Although, I must admit, it was a very creative try, but to think of Oz (such a classic) before DOrothy and Toto just did not do it for me.
I am sure it will be the same way for Mirror, Mirror.

I listened to Wicked on a audio book. I thought it was OK, but it kind of strayed a bit from the story. I then listened to Son of a Witch on audio, and that was really horrid. It went way off and didn't really end with what I felt was the main story line at all. I never read Mirror, mirror and had thou8ght about it, and some of his others, but I think his style is a bit boring.

I have not read "Mirror, Mirror", but I did read "Wicked". It was pretty out there, but the concept was pretty amazing when you think about it - what is wickedness and what is goodness I just saw the stage show for the second time and thought they did a much better job than the book. They kept that concept of what is evil and what is good, but tied it in much more the the original version of "The Wizard of Oz". Think you might like that if you get the chance to see it.

I loved Wicked and really enjoyed Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister (I think that's what it's called - the Cinderella story, anyway).

But Mirror, Mirror - Ho. Ly. Crap. Didn't like it much at all, just too weird. Don't get me wrong, I'm fine with weird and out there, but that one was beyond me.

I haven't seen Wicked on stage yet, but I'm hoping to when it comes to KC soon.
