Disney's Price Increases are obscene....

2. A concert..........easily $100 to hundreds for a few hours.
You must be going to the wrong concerts the concerts I go to cost no more than 45 and thats for an all day festival type concert but then again its not mainstream. I didnt realize how ridiculous those prices were. :lmao:

Apples and oranges. You're on an island at Atlantis...it's ALWAYS more expensive on an island because they have to get the food there and it's way more expensive to get it to an island when you can't just drive a truck full of food to it.

Also, Atlantis is a high-end resort so they'll add an additional premium.

That may be so, but the fact remains that I have more to do, for more days, for the same amount of money at WDW, so I personally prefer 8 days of fun and food to 4 days with less to do, stuck in one place.

:sunny:

I agree the prices have become to high. It is like they are catering to people from other countries where the dollar is worth less every day, and thus they can afford more when visiting the good old USA.

This is all relative and depends on individuals' music tastes. I can spend $15 and go to a local venue and see local bands in my area, but if any sort of mainstream act plays at our local venues, you can expect to pay a minimum of $75 for a seated ticket ... Region, musical acts, venues, and ticket vendors all drive the cost differences.

Me, too. Whatever that is, it sounds terrible, and I think they should stop giving it away -- it's obviously causing higher prices, lower quality food, and incredible typographical errors.

I'm blaming that on Apple. :upsidedow

Food prices are one area where I don't feel there's gouging going on. They're not singificantly higher than comparable restaurants in my area, and our local ones don't have Disney parks outside them to finish off your meal. The cost of ingredients has gone way up over the last decade.

I don't want to chime in too much, as I, quite frankly, am fed up with posters from both sides of the argument who insult and ridicule each other. I, myself, was told to stay home from the parks because of my "negativity" towards the price increases.

I will say this, though. UOR is a cheaper vacation for several reasons. Although, the one day price is the same, the multi-day prices are lower plus you don't need as many days because there are not as many attractions, thus you won't need as many nights at an onsite hotel that is better than most of the Deluxe resorts. Going by the numbers, it is cheaper.

Also, going by the number (NOT BY OPINION), Disney is not the "best" value out there. For a family of four (two adults, two teens), it costs $2,500 to stay at a deluxe resort with FL Resident discount for four nights and four days in the parks (no PH). Add $1,000 for dining and that's a total of $3,500. That's a lot of money for a four day trip. For example, you could, in essence, buy 3 MacBooks with that money, which would last for two years. That being said, if Disney is worth that much to you emotionally than it could be a good value, but, by the numbers not opinion, it isn't.

These, in no way, reflect my personal opinions and is just a bit of "number crunching."
It depends on what type vacation you want. I think I get a lot of bang for my buck at WDW. I love US/IoA, and have stayed there in the past..and really enjoyed it. BUT..if I want to spend more than 3 days (total) someplace, then US/IoA isn't going to get it done for me. I find it hard to spend more than 2 days at US/IoA...even then, I'm done by 2ish on that second day. So, sure..there is less to do. But, by that same token, there is a ton more to do at WDW for your vacation dollars.
You don't have to stay at a deluxe resort at WDW..you can choose a value resort. You get to choose from only three onsite resorts at US/IoA...and they are all pretty upscale. I think the least I've paid is about $170 a night....I can get a moderate at WDW for that. No, the two don't compare but if US/IoA had a lesser priced resort, I would stay there. I don't need deluxe.

As far as numbers go...I priced out a stay at WL, from Oct 13-17. 2 adults, 2 kids (6 and 12). I used a standard room, no special view. Added the DDP. 5 day passes (non-hoppers). Total came to $3431. I priced out the same stay at Hard Rock Hotel at US/IoA. Added their dining plan, which isn't nearly as good or all inclusive, as well as Mears transfers. The passes covered 2 parks for 3 days (not nearly the same as the Disney passes....5 days, 4 parks). The total for that was $2241.
The difference?? About $1200. Can't buy 3 MacBooks with that...maybe one. And again, you are getting four parks, with much more varied dining options, with your Disney stay.
But..perhaps you don't need those things. In that case, a US/IoA vacation is going to be perfect. I like to combine the two....5 days at WDW, 2 days at US/IoA.

Yes, it's expensive. Especially when you add in the costs to get there to begin with. For me..that's the killer. Not the costs when I finally get to WDW.

That may be so, but the fact remains that I have more to do, for more days, for the same amount of money at WDW, so I personally prefer 8 days of fun and food to 4 days with less to do, stuck in one place.

I'm not arguing which is better. No matter how you look at it, comparing prices to Atlantis is apples and oranges.

Yes, the prices are obscene. I agree OP! Unfortunately the current managment doesn't see it this way. Someone needs to tackle them before it is too late. In my lifetime I can see disney world as a country club that will basically price out alot of the middle class. That is a shame IMO.:sad1:

to put this whole thing into perspective. As a previous poster posted this info a few pages back, it's worth a look. Info was obtained from allears, if I recall.

From 2005 to 2012 price on 7 day passes have increased from $186.00 to $322.00. This is a 42% increase.

From 2005 to 2012 price on an Adult Annual Pass increased from $395.00 to $574.00. This is an increase of 32%.

I'm not sure about the rest of you, but my pay has not increased 32-42% in the last 7 years. According to most news sites, the average American's income has DECREASED in the last 5 years.

Couple this with the report from the U.S. Census Bureau showing a 35% decline in net worth between 2005 and 2010, for the average American.

As much as I love Disney, we've decided to explore other options for family vacations for the next few years.

I don't get this logic...what DOES increase at the same pace as the average income?

The parks are packed and until people stop going, Disney is not going to adjust the prices.

Opinions are open to interpretation. Facts are not. Keep defending with all your might. But you can't fight facts.

#1 - Prices at Disney have increased 32-42% over the last 7 years.

#2 - During these same 7 years, The average American's income has decreased and their net worth has decreased 35%!.

Keep telling yourself the increases are justified. Battle it out with anyone on here who dares to disagree. But at the end of the day, you'll still have to admit that price increases of 32-42% during a time when most American's have lost 35% of their net worth, is bad business.

The increases are much higher than you describe...

73% for the 7-day pass and 45% for the AP.

The bottom line is that as long as there is demand, they will continue to raise price.

Hey...not here to "battle". I just never thought they marketed their brand of vacation to the Average American.

don't mean to single you out. I've just seen so many posters here defending Disney no matter what the circumstances.

Disney does market vacations to the average American. I see commercials on every channel. At least here in Florida they are on almost every channel. I hope they continue to do well. I still love Disney but I'm drawing the line, right here. I may go back in a few years, we'll see. I plan to make a stand with my wallet.

We have been to Disney at least twice a year for the last 27 years. When more people like me stop going they will have to re-adjust their thinking and strategy.

Unless they care more about Brazilians than they do Americans.

Dis Lee, there are other ways to go and enjoy and still make a stand with your wallet. Like staying offsite. Like eating offsite. Like foregoing TS altogether. This is what I do. I just came back from a 7 night trip with my daughter, stayed offsite, ate only 3 TS (one of which I ate a kids meal and still spent $30 :crazy2:) and I spent $1700.00 total including airfare (and my room was way better than a Disney room at that price point). Disney got $660 of that total, including snacks, park tickets, parking, and souvenirs. Years back, when prices were more reasonable, Disney would have gotten 100% of that money (except for the $400 airfare). BUT as others have stated, someone out there IS willing to pay whatever Disney charges (at least at this point) so they feel they can charge whatever they want.

Make sure you determine the percentage change on the prices for those other options over the past seven years before you choose. ;)

Prices don't increase or decrease based on the net worth of the public. They change based on the product offered. In order to determine whether or not the increase is reasonable, you have to look at the rest of the industry as well as what has changed at WDW during those seven years. How much have Universal's prices increased in the same time frame? SeaWorld? Six Flags? What has Disney added, built, changed or created in that time?

The change of the average American's net worth vs. the change in prices at a theme park really are apples and oranges. A theme park is a luxury, not a necessity.

The DDP was $35/adults and $10:child in 2005. It included gratuity and an appetizer. FF to current prices, which will surely increase this fall, $52-54/adults and $15-16/child. The menu options are fewer and the quality has decreased.
