Resort Thread Disney's PORT ORLEANS RIVERSIDE Resort

I am booked at POR in September. In order to get FD, I had to do preferred room. From my understanding this is closest to the main building, which is great, but can also include a view of the parking lot. Would I be able to request a room without a parking lot view?

Yup. If you look at the map in the link below, the preferred rooms are in the blue buildings. If you notice buildings 18, 27 and 3/4 of building 14 do not face any parking lots.

I will say though that even if your room does face the parking lot, there is lush vegetation between your room and the parking lot. You have to try hard to see the lot, especially from the bottom floor.

I'm 90% sure I'm going to book POR today for a November stay. We will be in the AB section since there are 5 of us. How do you manage breakfast in the room (to save time and money)? Previously, we rented dvc points and had access to a full kitchen with dishes and cutlery and a toaster. How do you do it without those things?

Thanks!

To save money and time, we place an order with garden grocer or wegoshop for breakfast items. Instant breakfast powder, milk, protein bars, yogurt, fruit, bagels, cream cheese, cereal, small box of plastic utensils, and oatmeal.

To just save time for a short trip, I get up and ready first and run to the food court and get breakfast for the rest of the family and bring it back to the room to eat while everyone gets ready.

Thanks but what do you use for bowls or to heat up your oatmeal or toast your bagel?

You could get some paper bowls and cutlery from the food court the night before, and keep milk/etc in the fridge. However as far as heating up and other cooking tasks, you do need to remember this is a hotel with a restaurant, rather than a self-catering facility like DVC. The food court does have guest-accessible toasters if that helps, and you can use the coffee machines to get hot water.

But basically I'd plan on having a cold breakfast if you don't want to send the earliest riser in your group to the food court to bring back food (which is what we do).

Does PO offer standard view for FD? I click on it and then it suddenly change to Garden view...I am trying to call Disney about this, but there a 30 mins wait in queue. :sad2:

I didn't think there were ANY rooms left at POR under Free Dining. I would grab that Garden View ASAP.

i did...but I clicked on Standard view..when i got to payment information..it changed to garden view...I didn't understand why it did that. I didn't want to pay more for it..I don't care if i got parking view...does not have balcony anyway--so what the point?? How much more is the standard vs. garden?

It depends on the "season".

Value - $22 per night
Regular - $13 per night
Peak - $18 per night
Summer - $20
Value2 - $16

How much did your total go up in your cart?

Hi all! We are 9 days out from our once in a lifetime week long trip to WDW! I had read that the mosquitos are really bad right now at POR. For the people that have been there recently, how is it? I want to come prepared as my 4 year old tends to get eaten alive by mosquitos. Thanks so much!!

I've read and searched and I know the answer is out there but I couldn't find it! For the coffee pots, do they use standard keurig pods or is it something different. If different, what kind of pod do they use. I know they provide coffee, but we have keurig and I could throw some in with tea and decaf, etc.

No, not like the Keurig K-Cups but pods that look like round flat tea bags.

We have a river view for our first trip to POR June 13-18. I know we will be in AB because we are a family of five. If I read the maps right, that would mean buildings 38, 27 and 14. I would like to be close to a pool for DS10, but distance to the food court doesn't matter.

Anything special about the buildings other than proximity and view that I should know? If we open the curtains to look out at the river will people be able to look in? Is it more private on a second floor room? I appreciate any insight.

For us, the river view popped up as cheapest using the AP discount. I was surprised but we'll take it!!

My Fiance and I are officially booked from September 6th-13th in a Garden View room at POR! We are so excited!! We are definiltey planning an afternoon/night where we can relax at teh hotel and see Yeehaw Bob!

We have a garden view room, but I think we really want to be in AB and close to a bus stop. We don't mind a little bit of a walk to the food court so we were thinking of maybe requesting building 38. My plan is to call and state that we would like to be not too far from the North Depot & the Food Court so we were thinking building 38 would be good. I also will fax in my requests. Does anyone know if that seems good/reasonable? We were trying to book a king bed since its just the 2 of us but there weren't any available so I thought maybe to request a king bed too but I don't want to get too crazy! Any advise is appreciated!

Thank you :)

It depends on the "season".

It used to be really simple, there were just three room categories, and only two price-points (as king bed and water view were the same price) spread over four seasonal bands. My charts from 2006 and earlier contained just 12 prices (and four of those were duplicates, so eight prices really):

Skip to 2015, and the chart has to be split into three tables as otherwise it would be an unmanageable 15 columns wide, and it now contains 585 separate price points. The graph below is just for Riverside non-Royal rooms (and even then I've removed the various weekend fluctuations to keep it readable!):

Upper floor is slightly more private, but the buildings are set back a little way from the path anyway, so you won't really have issues with people looking in. 14 and 38 are closest to pools, but 27 isn't really far either. To be honest, there isn't a bad Alligator Bayou river-view room .

Sounds fine to me, letting them know WHAT you want rather than just quoting a building number is always a good idea. Buildings 16 and 17 are nice locations too by the way. In your fax you could say that'd you'd be interested in a King Bed room should any of those have become available since you booked, and make sure that mention you'd be happy to pay the price difference if there is one.
