Resort Thread Disney's PORT ORLEANS RIVERSIDE Resort

So excited to be returning to POR in June! Will be in town (solo, most likely) for a business conference and decided to stay for an extended weekend to get my Disney fix. The only availability within budget was Coronado or POR RR-GV. Coronado was better for my budget, so I took it. Even so, I had been checking POR rates every day; lo and behold, this morning, a standard room was open, so I immediately booked it! I saved a total of $8 from my original CSR booking :rotfl:

Last time I was in POR, I followed instructions to fax room requests, and we were pixie dusted with a lovely and quiet GV room in building 39. I absolutely love AB and would love to stay there again, but I think I just may leave it up to the CMs to place me where they see fit. I'm just extremely happy to be back at POR!
So excited for you and you can buy your favorite Disney snack with your savings!:flower1:

Which is better, Riverside Mill or Sassagoula? For example, if you were only going to eat at one, would you stay at Riverside or wander over to Sassagoula?

Depends what you want, the menu options are slightly different. Riverside Mill is bigger and probably has more choice, but French Quarter has beignets! I prefer the river mill theme to be honest, as I feel the mardi gras decor at FQ can be a bit overpowering. See my website for menus at both locations.

Will do then. To those who know best....what exactly should I ask for? Close to a footbridge? We're there for just two nights, so I don't want to spend a ton of time walking back and forth to the room!

Yes, request location close to foot bridge. The footbridge I posted was right by quiet pool between Oak Manor & Parterre place. Our room was very close. So rather then request a building I'd just request footbridge.

So for the POR experts, how difficult would it be to get connecting preferred rooms (hopefully on 1st floor due to stroller)? We're a family of six - so we need two rooms.

Given that about 50% of the resort's rooms are connecting, your chances aren't too bad - and you can improve them further by making a request.

After much debate and thinking…we've changed our room for this Friday from CBR to POR!! I can't wait to be "home" again! My friends and I haven't stayed since May a year ago in a RR and we're excited to try an AB room this time!

A question about foot traffic......

Just booked for this October! This will be my third stay and both previous times I received all of my requests, even an upgrade from standard to garden view (which now I paid for as I don't think I can take a parking lot view having been spoiled!) So both times I received a corner room away from the stairs. I already requested a specific building. I plan to request corner room again with the online check in. Now I am starting to worry about being next to a stairway. Do you think it really adds a lot of traffic? Since there are multiple strays anyway I suspect the traffic to be spread out. I think I just tend to be one who always has to have at least one detail to stress about :sad2: I also feel it might be pushing it to add that to my requests, but what do you think?

I'm not sure but possibly a bit more foot traffic. You could request an outside corner room away from stairs on fax request.

I agree with building 25 and second floor. Ask for a room that faces building 28 rather than the bus depot. It should be quieter there. Although you might also request that the room be furthest end from quiet pool. You will need to call rather than try to fax all this.

We like these back buildings at AB too and have never had trouble getting them. I have always had it noted in my reservation (I call) and never had to fax the request. Once at check-in they thought they were giving me an upgrade I guess and had assigned me a mansion room. Pointed out that reservation said AB and a specific building and there was no trouble with assignment being changed when I arrived.

Why do you think that? A phone call will normally only get you through to the central WDW Call Handling Center, where they will just add a few notes onto your reservation filed on the computer. A fax, on the other hand, goes directly to the on-site room allocation department, and allows you to flesh out your request in more detail.

Faxing has always worked for us. They always say that they got our request when we get there too which is nice.

All I can say to this is that I always get the best treats at 11:45 PM at Riverside. When we get back from the parks or DTD late I always magically end up in front of the display case at Riverside staring down cheesecake...

We are in the planning stages for a 4 day trip in Oct and will stay at PO, the question is FQ or RS? We will need two rooms as my mom is coming along, and our daughter will be staying in the room with grandma. Our son will be staying in our room. We like the Royal guest rooms at PO but prefer the style of the FQ resort. Ugh. What to do

So, we'll be at POR 5/12-5/17 in a RR Garden view room. DD2 is an early riser and we'll try to hit RD each day we go the parks (maybe extra early for Star Wars Weekend). I'm not sure what I should request as far as building, floor, etc. to be close to the bus depots. First time at WDW too.

"Close to bus stop" and then probably "first floor" for ease of strollering her in and out of the room.

My hubby and I are going in 2 weeks for our first time adult only Anniversary trip. First time staying POR, we have booked a standard room and requested the mansion bldgs. (preferably Magnolia section), but does anyone have any feedback on good room choices that are considered standard, but not too far from a bus depot or food court? Would it be wise to request a room on the 3rd Floor?

I've already done online check-in and selected my room requests; however, would it be helpful to fax more specific requests (hopes and dreams) to resort directly??? Just curious if this would help.

I think the Royal Rooms are very nice, and the mansion buildings are closer to the POFQ style of theming than the Alligator Bayou section is. See http://www.portorleans.org/faqs.php#Choice for more details.

The Royal Rooms at POR are in buildings 90 and 95 (Oak Manor and Parterre Place, see map in the first post). I'd suggest requesting a room close to the footbridge which leads over to the main buildings (and the main bus stop) and also ask for ground floor, would help with stroller access for a 2-year-old.
