Resort Thread Disney's PORT ORLEANS RIVERSIDE Resort

Anyone know what the typical bus ride time is to MK and Epcot? I hear the buses are an issue. Has anyone tried Uber? I'm curious how long it took and the cost. I know you can't go all the way to MK and have to stop at TCC? (I think)...We called today and it's about $600 less to switch from WL to POR Royal Room or preferred.

Also, how bad is the dining area at breakfast? What time is is busy? The roaring fork was quite busy at WL, but again thinking of my hubby trying to carry a tray through a crowd with his vision (it's much worse now than 3.5 years ago so that is why we are concerned). We will figure out ways to work with it.

We stayed at POR for part of our Marathon trip in January and after a few looong bus rides (which can happen at any resort, any time), we took Uber quite a bit. It was super easy. How much time it took to get to places depended on traffic, time of day, etc. but it was always way shorter than the buses of course. IIRC, it cost around $7/8 to go to the MK. $6 for Disney Springs, a little bit more for EPCOT and DHS. There was always an Uber in the area, we never waited more than 5 minutes for a pickup after the request. Hope that helps a little!

Thanks, Andre. We booked preferred because we need a close location for my dad to the food court, pool, bus.
How much difference in distance is there comparing a preferred room to a pool view royal room? (In how many minutes of a walk?) Are they similar in price? Also, we have free dining- would I even have the option to switch to another type of room and keep the free dining?

Also, do first floor preferred rooms have a lot of foot traffic going by them? I usually ask for upper level so we don't have someone walking around above us!

We are having the same dilemma except there are no pool view royal rooms left when we are going...We are a young couple in our 30's but my husband recently went from limited vision to 100% blind in one eye. Andre has some good advice!

IIRC---> If I Recall Correctly :flower3:
The prices might be off a dollar or two either way, but I know the Uber prices were way cheaper than the cabs. We got really spoiled using them this time around.

do the royal rooms have pull-down beds? We have staying in May with my two kids and my boyfriends niece. I wasn't sure if this was an option for us or if we have to squeeze in the two queen beds.

Royal rooms do not have the pull down beds, only alligator bayou rooms have it.

They will not let you book, or put you in, a room with less bedding slots than guests. So, it looks like they will not let you book the royal rooms (unless you booked 2 rooms, of course).

We are already booked for a royal room with a river view. My youngest is 2, I wonder if that's why we were still able to book it.

Hard to say, the closest AB rooms in building 14 would be nearer to the rear entrance to the food court than any of the Royal Rooms, but on average it's probably fairly close. Take a look at the maps:

All of the blue buildings are the Preferred Locations area, while the Royal Pool View rooms are mostly on the southern edge of the red Oak Manor directly overlooking the quiet pool, and thus very close to the footbridge leading to the main area. As you can see, there's not a lot in in really, and it would be down to where exactly your room happened to be located within each area.

The grounds are beautiful and I love the river and the boat to DS. It is really relaxing to just walk around. I like the theming of the rooms (and I have stayed in every room type) as well.

Even the preferred? It looks so plain from the pics! I only have WL to compare to. Thank you for your feedback! Preferred is cheaper and closer than the RR but we were going to do the Royal rooms for that reason (more decorated).

Look through a walk through on youtube.

AB isn't plain, it's rustic style, as opposed to the opulent style mansions. From a utility standpoint, the mansions and AB are completely identical. The differences are purely aesthetic, and thus, completely subjective. Some prefer the mansions' style, others prefer AB.

Ok, it's hard to tell :) I will check it out.

Exactly. It's not plain at all, in fact there are a lot of cute little details and I love the log furniture.

I've stayed a few days in Wilderness Lodge (quite a few years ago though!) and I would say that the room interiors are actually much more akin to POR's Alligator Bayou section (which includes the Preferred rooms) than they are to the mansion building rooms. Both WL and AB feature rustic woodsy design details, and are very similar in terms of size and amenities. WL is a sort of 'semi-deluxe' in terms of its rooms anyway, especially when you compare with the likes of the Grand Floridian, Yacht & Beach, etc.
