Resort Thread Disney's PORT ORLEANS FRENCH QUARTER Resort

If there is a specific queue of more than a few people waiting for something, then of course you should join it if that's where you want to go. However at the Port Orleans bus stops there is no proper queue defined for any of the parks, that's was my point. So when a bus turns up, the people sitting at the bus stop should be considered as having been waiting for the bus like anyone else. Personally I'd prefer it if there were separate defined queues though.

Andre
There are no proper queues for buses at any resorts aside from the Value. Whether or not there should be is a different discussion. There aren't so gotta work with what they have.

So, with the system they have now, I still do not understand where you think those sitting should place themselves in the line when the bus pulls up.

Say they got there first, before anyone else, and took a seat. While waiting on a bus another 35 guests come up, 15 more sit, the rest stand. Destination of all these guests is mixed as there is more than 1 destination being serviced at the stop.
Bus comes, 20 or so of the folks standing move towards the bus loading area. Where, in your mind, does guest #1 get in line, if they don't get up and stand till the bus pulls in?

As there is no queue, just a general communal covered waiting area (with some people seated, the rest standing) then it's really up to the waiting guests to work out who got there first.

However no, I don't have any real answers as to how it should 'officially' work - just the inherent logic that if someone sits down on a supplied seat at a bus stop, that should not mean that they won't then get to ride the bus when it arrives.

How polite and honourable people are at doing that is another matter of course...

Luckily, I think for the most part, everyone does work it out. Thankfully, it seems issues loading the buses are rare.

But, that's the main thing, isn't it? Manners? if I walk up to a bus stop where there are 50 people waiting, some sitting, some standing, and that bus stop has buses going to different places, how could a person be expected to take note of all the people sitting, memorize them, know where they are going, and then make sure no late comers "sneak" in and sit down too, and then make sure everyone there before me gets on the bus before me?

I guess I'm the opposite; if I'm worried about getting on the bus first, then the polite and honorable thing I do is that I don't sit down, so as not to cause confusion or an issue, I instead guess (to the best of my ability) where the bus is going to pull up to and form a line as much as I can with the people in my party. If I do decide to sit on a bench, then I try to do the polite and honorable thing and not care who gets on in front of me, as I'm not in line and have chosen to sit while others stand... again, it's an interesting difference of perspective.

I guess it's a moot point when someone travels with altruistic manners and tries to care more about the comfort of others than oneself, so I suppose if one does that, the rest will follow.

If there is a line I stand on it. If it isn't for the park I want to go to then I am early in the line for the next bus I want.
Those people on the benches? They can enjoy their seats, but I am getting on the darn bus.
It would be nice if Disney could organize it a little better, but you have to work with what you have.

We're here now. ..asked about bounce back brochure and was told by several CMs that they don't have the info packets in the rooms anymore, and there are no bounceback brochures. ..Apparently you now have to call to find out dates and what resorts are included at what discounts...anyone else that is here get the same story?

No, because both of our rooms had brochures in them. You don't have anything in your room?

That said it's never been uncommon to find rooms that didn't have anything in them. They don't have much info in them anyway, it's very vague. You end up having to call to get details anway

We didn't have anything in our room in early Nov. I had to call on the bounce back and looked on the internet for other things (such as the pizza delivery menu and number). Very frustrating.

One quick question - we're headed there in April, and I like to get to the bus stop an hour before parks open, but others in our group like to sleep in. What are the general "rush times" that were talked about in the previous pages? I know the first week of April will be crowded and it will definitely help our planning. Thank you in advance!

Park opening times are the busiest. So that one hour you plan to get to the bus stop, so will everyone else.

Andre: Didn't know if you were aware of these changes to the Port Orleans' Resorts bus service.

Some of the Walt Disney World Resorts sit on a pretty expansive amount of property making it somewhat difficult to get from one end of the Resort to another.

One example is Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – Riverside. Disney has just added a dedicated internal bus to this Resort that will stop at all four of the bus stops at Riverside and will also stop at Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter as an added convenience. The shuttle service will start running at 6:30 a.m. and go until 12:30 a.m. Sunday through Thursday and will run until 1:00 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.

The bus service from Port Orleans Resort – Riverside to Magic Kingdom Park has been slightly modified for guest convenience as well. From approximately 8:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. (peak morning hours), two separate buses will be sent to the Resort. One bus will pick up from the West, North, and East stops and head straight to the Magic Kingdom while the other bus will head to the South stop which typically has a larger crowd in the mornings and then on to Magic Kingdom.

Both of these additions should reduce wait times for guests while also getting them to the Magic Kingdom faster!

Looks like the success of doing this exact thing at CBR starting last December has carried over to POR! Although at CBR it is for all 4 parks, not just MK.

I saw the shuttles last week. I was surprised as I thought they'd have stopped them once the food court opened.
It was also very nice in that we didn't share with Riverside at all, except for one very late night return from DS. All other trips at all times of day were direct FQ to park, and back.

There has been a resort internal shuttle in operation for about a year now, which started in early December 2015, however it was run in conjunction with the Disney Springs service (Disney Springs > French Quarter > Riverside South > West > North > East > French Quarter > Disney Springs) so it looks like they may have added a separate bus which only does the resort loop. The addition of a specific route covering the outer Riverside stops only at peak time is a good idea - they already did that on an ad hoc basis when the stops were especially busy, but I guess they've realised it would be better to just plan it in advance.

I've been reading this bus line discussion with puzzlement. This is not strictly about WDW resorts, unless my part of the world is just chaotic by nature. I mean, sure people queue up for things, and no one wants to cut in line, but when large groups of people wish to board the same mode of transport, there isn't always a clear line. Let's say at the airport. If the flight leaves at 10, I am one of those people who likes to be there early and I'll be there by 7. Say I make it to the seats next to my gate first, this by no means guarantees that I will board first. Lots of people will start pooling around the waiting area by the gate. Then, when they call your boarding group (or however else the airline chooses to board), people will start forming a line, and nobody cares who had been sitting the longest. A queue will form, and then you don't allow people to cut in line.

So, at the WDW resort bus stops, we get to the waiting area, sit or stand, and when a bus comes that goes to where I want to go, I stand, other people stand, a line is formed, and we all get on the bus.

Ok. We have a pre park BBB on a Tuesday in May. Appointment is 8:05. What time will we be needing to get on the bus?

Where, MK or Disney Springs? If MK, I'd suggest getting to the bus stop around 7:10am to be on the safe side.
