Resort Thread Disney's PORT ORLEANS FRENCH QUARTER Resort

Andre, Do you have any idea if this will be a dinner only spot? Or do we think they may do breakfast too?

It think it will be open all day. I will be able to provide more details of what's happening as soon as the dates are officially confirmed and everyone is informed at the reservations center, etc. (in case of guest questions - not that that will make much of a difference, but hey they try! :) )

Andre

Happy to join this thread again, as I will be at POFQ in 67 days! We've stayed here twice before, and we're looking forward to coming back! :-)

Just an FYI for the splash pad. My daughter is exactly 48" and was asked to go measure herself at least four times in a one night stay. 48" is the maximum. They were measuring everyone and telling kids they had to leave. So, you may want to prep kids around that age for not being able to use it.

Happy to see the rules are being enforced. Last year at the new WL kiddie pool/splash pad area, there weas almost always several kids who were definitely too big/old to be in that section. And their behavior (such as climbing up the outside of the tube slide) had me scared to let my daughter keep playing there.

We are at POFQ right now and they are definitely enforcing the height limit.

My stay in early June at POFQ will be my first Disney resort experience and I am super excited! Quick question, we plan to grab breakfast at the resort food court before hopping the bus to the parks for rope drop most days. How crazy is the food court at that time. I figure this is something that many people are doing. I wanted to be able to plan the right amount of time for breakfast and still make it to the parks on time. Thank you!

they start serving hot breakfast entrees at 7:00 AM...too late for us last week as we wanted to be on the bus for rope drop on EMH days, but before that, it's not very busy if you want to get bagels, muffins, juice, fruit, etc.

Myself, DW, DD(8) & DS(6) will be staying at POFQ for the first time in November. We've stayed at POR & Poly in the past. Does anyone have thoughts on the room type options? Right now we are booked for a Garden View. Is there any value to that over a Standard View?

I understand that the resort is small but we want to be near the pool, food and bus. Is it worth upgrading to Pool View to know that we'll be in buildings 2 or 5?

There are more Garden View rooms in Buildings 2 and 5 than any other room type. So it's worth a shot to request those buildings.

Dissapointed to hear this, my 5 year old will be too tall, and will be very sad he can't play here with his little sister. I was hoping since the pool slide isn't super impressive they were making this area for more than just toddlers. Oh well.

We are also slightly disappointed by this. I have a six and four year old. My six year old will be tall but my little guy will be just right. There's no way I can supervise one in the play area and one in the pool. It's not going to ruin the trip but I definitely am not psyched.

Agreed. It won't put a damper on the trip, but it would have been nice for both my kids (who are both off the charts in height). While I totally understand not wanting the older kids to take over the area and horse around, it seems it could be a little taller than 48" to accomodate some more of the younger kids.

Exactly. You said it much better than I did.

Hi y'all,

I have a reunion group of about 20 for early June. We have six families: two staying at POFQ, two at POR and two with DVC resort-stay pool privileges. Having been to POR and POFQ only once, could y'all give a few ideas as to where we could gather to socialize at POFQ when it's good weather and when it's raining?

We also have a dinner planned for Floatworks, because the parents of young children want more flexibility than a table service. I think it seems reasonable we could meet there, but maybe I'm mis-remembering the location. Is there a good place to share a surprise dessert I plan to bring (King Cake)?

Thank so much for our insights!

I am just back from 14 lovely nights at French Quarter so I will try and address some of the comments I have seen in the posts I missed when away and give me thoughts!

Firstly, the beds were really comfortable. The pillows were fine - a bit soft for my preference but nothing wrong with them at all. I sent in a room request by fax 4 or 5 days in advance of my stay requesting a top floor room, away from the elevators, non-connecting room and ideally in buildings 4, 5 or 6 so I could be close to the main building, but also close to the path to be able to walk to Riverside. This was a slightly cheeky request as I had booked a standard view room (no garden views available) and I know there are no standard views on the top floor of buildings 5 or 6. On check in I was given a lovely room in building 5 - meeting all my requests, and it was a garden view too which was lovely. We could hear the movies on the lawn, but this wasn't really a problem as we were usually still out at the parks, it was only the first night when we were jet lagged and wanted to sleep earlier. The rooms did not seem tired at all. I did not have a clock in the room, but this did not bother me. I ordered from Amazon Prime and the box was waiting for me on check in (along with something else I ordered from Ebay).

Overall, I loved FQ. I stayed at Riverside previously and much preferred this resort - the only downside in my opinion was the limited selection of food in the food court at lunch time - we were only there for one lunch time and ended up walking to Riverside to get lunch as there was a bit more selection. I loved the size of the resort and the fact it only had one bus stop. We only went round the Riverside loop once and it reminded me how much I love the FQ buses! I wish I was back there right now!

The pool at POR is bigger than POFQ & has more seating as does the pool bar area . As far as inside goes no place other than the lounge /lobby area . Again since POR is bigger there is more room. However both resorts have entertainment several night a week and the lounges can be crowded. Especially POR when Yeeha Bob has his shows.
Both food courts should work for dinner. Each are in the the main buildings with the checkin, lounges and gift shops.

Based on your priorities, you don't want a standard view. If your priority is to be close to the pool, and also food and bus stops, you definitely want Bldg 5. Not Bldg 2. With Bldg 5 you're right at the restaurant and you can cut through the walkway in the middle of Bldg 4 and the bus stops are right in front of you. You don't need to request a pool view in order to be close to the pool. However, you can ask for Bldg 5 and get all of what you want; Pool, food, bus. I've read posts on here about people getting none of their requests. When I made my request I was actually very specific. So specific I requested the actual room number I wanted, based on research I did on TouringPlans.com. I got the room right next to what I requested. It was perfect. My experience is obviously not going to be everyone's, but it's worth a try. TouringPlans.com shows you the map of the resort with pictures from every room so you can see the view your getting. Once you choose the room, it sends the Fax request for you five days prior to your arrival. You can write a note with the Fax and be as specific as you want. The link below takes you to the hotel room finder. I'm not sure if you have to sign up or not. I did when I started my planning for a small fee and it was more than worth it. They also have a reservation finder that helped me get reservations to restaurants that I couldn't because they were already booked.

Touring plans is always worth a try, but for our trip a couple weeks ago, I had TA put requests on the reservation, did online check in with same requests, and sent the tourplans fax, and they STILL gave us the exact opposite of what we requested. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't so remember that requests are not guarantees...they are simply requests.:teeth:

This is very helpful, thank you so much. I will definitely take a look at touring plans, keep my garden view and request building 5 (and perhaps even a specific room).
