Resort Thread Disney's POLYNESIAN VILLAGE RESORT

Staying at the Poly in 10/23. I’m nervous about the construction. Has anyone been there during previous construction that can share how it impacted the vibes?

I stayed at Poly a few times in that approx. 2014-2015ish time frame while the lobby was walled off, the main pool was closed, the DVC buildings were being renovated, Captain Cook's relocated for awhile, later the Oasis Pool was fully redone, etc, etc. Tons of work and projects all around over multiple years. While each were shorter projects, for awhile there it was pretty impactful in multiple areas of the guest experience… construction walls and work going on all over the place. You needed to have a very high tolerance for things not being normal to make it worth it.

At least with the DVC tower it’s relatively “off to the side” unless you have a room on the west side of the resort (if Disney intends to put guests in rooms directly facing construction) (if I had a Standard View room I'd be paying close attention). You could be a guest on the other side of the resort and if you never walk to GF or the gym, you'll never really be close to the site. Of course it is a big multi-level project that will inevitably create noise and other nuisances, but as a frequent Poly guests I'm not all that worried about it at the moment, generally speaking. If things get going and actual results/reports start suggesting otherwise, I'll change my tune.

Hi all! Staying at the Poly for the first time early next year. We’re psyched!

Question, I saw online that there are “Princess Suites” better suited to larger families however when booking I don’t see these listed (even as not available).

Do these still exist? And all suites are showing unavailable for 3/31-4/4, do they generally sell out completely pretty far in advance?

Thank you all!

Hi there. There are two "Princess Suites" and both are located in the Tonga Longhouse (which houses the other Poly suites). These rooms are considered Club Level. The Princess Suite I is a 2BR suite on the first floor, Princess Suite II is a 1BR suite on the second floor. The 1BR shows up online (this is the "1 Bedroom Suite - Club Level" you see online), the 2BR suite doesn't so you have to call.

You can sometimes find availability, but they are relatively tough to book since it's only two rooms.

Hope that helps!

Thanks so much! So helpful. I didn’t realize there were so few of them.

The regular rooms look decently sized. We’ll be 5 plus an infant in a crib, I know it’ll be tight but we’ve done it at BCV before and it looks like those rooms are smaller.

The Disney TA I am working with (who is wonderful) said we cannot do a quest for a specific building (we are trying to get into Samoa, i.e. basically avoid Fiji with our pool/marina view). I still think if we request pool view over marina view, then 3rd/1st floor it will be OK but this doesn't sound right. I feel like a lot of folks on this forum mention requesting a specific building or even ta specific room number.

Does this come down to maybe what software they use or something? I don't want to just email her and say "you're wrong" but ... I feel like she is? or am I wrong?

We stayed with a P&P, we did have to do some slight furniture relocation to get the P&P where we wanted it (between a bed and the window) but the beds are a decent height off the ground so there's a lot of storage under them. And the closets had decent storage as well. Granted you'll have 2 more people than I did, but I don't think it'll be terrible, especially if you have a balcony or patio.

She is wrong. She can call Disney and put in a request - they will tell her that it is only a request and that there are no guarantees, but we have usually gotten what we requested. We always request a King room in Rarotonga.

Yes, she's wrong. We just got back and heck, we didn't just request a building or a floor, but we requested a specific room too. And we got it! I realize that is not the norm, but they will certainly do their best to accommodate you if they can.

This last photo has Lilo's Playhouse labeled. I thought it had been closed. Can anyone confirm? Also, there's multiple "You are Here" signs all over this photo. What's up with that?
Catching up and also noticed "Disney's Magical Express" is still listed under the legend directing people to the DME logo at the porte cochere.

Hopefully someone at Disney notices all these mistakes before the signs are reprinted with the new tower :rotfl:

Thanks so much! We’re only going for 4 nights so we’ll be out of the room most of the day anyways, with parks and pool time. I was a bit worried about fitting a crib though!

(Cross-posted with the Grand Floridian thread) Long story short but we’ve ended up with one night at the Polynesian in the middle of our Grand Floridian stay. I know that bell services will move our bags for us but do you think it would be possible for us to wheel them along the walkway between the two resorts ourselves? When we’ve done a split stay in the past it’s often been quite late when the bags have arrived and so I’d like to leave them with bell services at the new resort so that they’re available when we first have access to the new room.

(This my post from GF for those that do t visit there..)

I have done that in August with 90+ temps. I felt it was worth it to have my stuff !

I have also walked mine from, bwi to bc, S&D to bwi, CBR to RR. I really don’t like waiting for my stuff lol.
😅

For my mil in December I walked her stuff while she took boat and met her there, Then I also took an Uber with her and her bags another time. Depends on group size but 1 can Uber the bags and other mono over if that helps. I used to drag 3 bags to airline check in way back when my kids in grade school. Why? It was easier to finagle 3 bags vs listening to them complain it’s going home day,
😂

I’m sure this has been answered many times in the past but is there a projected date for the new villa building to be completed by? Thanks so much
