Disney's POLYNESIAN VILLAGE RESORT Information & Questions

Thank you, so much, for the clarification! I booked directly with Disney way back in February or March when the new Studios first came online, and "studio" is what my reservations say. I'll be happy to have the outdoor space for morning coffee, and evening relaxation, but really just cannot wait to be there, period!

Mahalo, and Aloha!

Not all studios are DVC as in like you would rent through a member etc. Sometimes Disney rents the DVC studios like any other room and so you wouldn't know you were in a DVC room unless you are well aware of what DVC is and that the buildings are dvc and non-dvc.

If you book a "studio" at this url: https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/resorts/polynesian-villas-bungalows/ then you should be in the DVC buildings, which are Moorea, Pago Pago, and Tokelau.

If you book a "room" at this url: https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/resorts/polynesian-resort/ then you are not booking a DVC studio.

If those 2 sites look the same to you, click View Gallery, and then click Rooms to see the difference. With the regular hotel bookings, they are called "rooms" (or "suites"). With the DVC bookings, they are called "studios" (or "bungalows").

I have heard of people booking regular rooms and being offered an "upgrade" to a DVC studio. I've also heard of people booking DVC studios getting offered an "upgrade" to a club-level regular room. So be clear what you would or wouldn't consider an upgrade either way.

You'll be set!!

As a general FYI, DVC members can use points for other things like cruises and such. When they do, a related allocation of DVC rooms goes over to Disney for their booking as cash reservations. Also for points that aren't sold yet, Disney can use those rooms for cash reservations as well. They're the same exact rooms (as long as they are listed as studios), just you'll get housekeeping and such daily while a DVC member/rental has the special schedule. Enjoy!

We're headed back to Poly in just a few weeks. I think it's funny that the quiet pool is being refurbished - it was being refurbished the last time we stayed there. I think it was about five years ago.

Thanks, wilkeliza! Flying by the seat of my pants, here as a non-DVC owner/member, but getting some very helpful information here...

[Sorry for the interruption]...1 1/2 baths and Lilo & Stitch fold-out bed...

Thank you...THANK YOU, psac, for the reassurance and the additional information! I'm a huge fan of FYIs!

Forewarning to you - and all other helpful folks here: If I encounter any glitches with room check-in or assignments, and so forth, I'll certainly be better-prepared to protest, "But 'they' - the folks on Disboards - told me...[this, that, and the other thing]" :D...

This will be a great trip thanks to all the information I've gotten on this board!

So excited! We got some pixie dust in the mail in the form of a UPC. It extends to our dates (late April). Extra excited because the UPC was in my mother's name and we were able to apply it to their rooms and ours! Great savings!!! (hmmm, maybe upgrade. . . . )

You definitely have a studio. Enjoy!

I would take a DVC studio over a regular room only if it were to save me a good deal of money. I like having two beds. But right now, if I choose to keep our reservation at the Poly, I have a regular room for 3 adults, 2 kids for $1500 for 4 nights, first week in February. I am really debating on switching over to the POFQ for the same dates with two rooms for $1300, more room, 4 beds, 2 bathrooms. So torn. With the construction and the monorail having such issues at times, I just am not sure.

Anyone have any opinions on my situation?

 I booked a studio as soon as they opened this year too. Stayed in August....it was paradise! :beach:
Not sure if I mentioned this in an earlier post or not, (gets a little confusing at times when posting any tips) but as a cash-paying, non-DVC member guest, you don't have to pay for laundry, which I had assumed was for DVC members only. We stayed in Moorea and with the laundry facilities in that particular building, it was a real bonus for a family of 5 staying for 12 days. Loads of stinky laundry! ::yes::

I have always dreamed of staying at the Poly, but I never thought I would due to the high cost. Well, thanks to the discounts just released by Disney, plus a 48 hour sale from Orbitz, I am taking the plunge! I will be staying there from Jan 3-9 in a standard view room.

I would love some suggestions. Because Epcot is my favorite park, I would like to have a room close to the TTC. But it seems that all the buildings that fit that description have either been converted to DVC or look to be heavily impacted by the pool construction. Any suggestions? Thanks! I have found this thread to be beyond helpful already!

I haven't stayed at POFQ so I can't compare the two, but having stayed in a Poly studio, I can speak to that.

We were there in August and the monorail schedule was altered somewhat but we found it to be no problem at all. We used the little boats for MK visits and may all have actually preferred them to the monorail. As for double bathrooms, I loved that amenity! It proved to be a real time saver for our family of 5.

Not sure I would prefer POFQ's larger space of 2 rooms and double bathrooms over the single bathroom in the Poly room simply because of having to deal with more transportation inconveniences. Shared buses, longer commutes vs adjusted monorail hours. The monorail's altered hours, if similar to August's schedule, would be easy to get around. When possible, we strategically scheduled our days at EP and MK around the monorail's inconvenient adjusted hours. Ie., if the EP line was not running till 9 am, we went somewhere else that morning instead. Another consideration, does your family takes regular afternoon breaks at your resort, like our family did? That's a lot of daily travel time to factor in.

IMO, transportation consumes far more time than waiting for someone to use the washroom facilities. That said, I would choose the Poly over POFQ with no hesitation.

My opinions though are based only from what I have read about POFQ. I hear it's a beautiful resort. You may have emotional connections there, and as you said, staying there will save you $$$. You have lots to consider. Good luck with your decision-making!

Hmmm… do you happen to know about non-members staying on rented points? That would be nice if it were free, but I it's no biggie if it's not. We're there for 2 weeks so we'll definitely have to do laundry. :-)

Just returned from a great Poly GV club stay. Stayed on 3rd floor. Minimal construction noise noted when we returned in the early afternoon for breaks. Club chefs were awesome with DDs food allergies. Can't wait to return in March 2016!!
