I've been to Disney several times before, but have never experienced the Magical Express service. I'm always very concerned about my luggage on every trip. I just wanted to know how reliable this service is and if anyone has ever had a problem with it. I need to relinquish my worries so that I can sleep soundly putting my luggage in Disney's hands. We also won't be in the room for a while after we check in either. We'll be heading to Downtown Disney to hand in our Exchange Certificates. Any help would be sooooo GREAT! Thank you ALL . . .

Welcome to the DIS!

It is a reliable service. It has been around for almost a year now and will be around for at least five more years.

Do things work perfectly every time? No. You will find people who have had problems here on this board if you do a search.

But you will also find people who have had problems with airlines losing their luggage, town car service being late, hotel rooms not clean, restaurants causing food poisoning, and car rentals not having the right size vehicle.

RELAX!! And have a great trip....

You'll be fine...so will your luggage!!! Relax. I don't think there are all that many situations where DME has lost luggage. Sure, there have been some, but I'm not sure if we actually know where the mishandling happened....at the departure airport, upon arrival at MCO, or once the bags were off the plane and DME misplaced them. But, rest assured....many, many people have used DME to move their luggage and been very happy with it.
If you are really concerned, you can always go to baggage claim yourself and pick up your bags and then bring them with you to DME. The bags will be placed underneath your bus and will be unloaded for you when you reach your resort. Then you take them with you to check-in.
But remember...if youb do that, do not put the yellow luggage tags on your bags. if you do, they will never get to the baggage claim area because these tags flag your bags as DME bags and will be taken from the plane's luggage truck to the DME truck that will deliver it to the resort.
And Welcome to the DIS boards..you are gonna love it here!!!!

DME has been around over 10 months, about 45 weeks, about 315 days. I think I read it averages about 6,000 users a day. 6,000 times 315 equals 1.89 MILLION people who've used it. ALMOST 2 MILLION PEOPLE! If there were wholesale problems with it, it wouldn't be such a smashing success.

But it's not for everyone. It's a shared bus service. It's having your luggage delivered up to a few hours after you arrive. I can understand that some people are willing to pay for the personalized, private, pampering service offered by towncar services. But I do get a kick out of people who talk about not wanting to wait around for their luggage. To them, I usually say three things:

1) You don't have to wait around. The luggage gets delivered to the inside of your room whether you're there or not. To me, that's the MAGIC in MAGICAL EXPRESS. Go out and have fun.

2) If you need anything right away, pack it in your carry-on. I do this wherever and whenever I fly. WHY? Because AIRLINES can delay your luggage. I always pack for the first 24 hours in my carry-on no matter where I fly.

3) Why is it that you trust your airline to be responsible for your luggage for a thousand miles or whatever, but then you don't trust DME to transport it the last 20 miles or so???

When our luggage arrived in our room (on the 4th day DME was in operation), we didn't know it because we were in the pool with our two pre-schoolers enjoying the start of our vacation. A full change of clothes, swimsuits, PJs, medications, and toiletries takes up MUCH less space than it sounds like. Try it! And enjoy your vacation!
