Disney's Magical Express Question

Does anyone know why you have to go to the DME counter to get a voucher to ride the bus if it's already part of your paid package? Or will you get your vouchers in the mail? I have heard from a friend that the line at the DME counter at MCO was HUGE this past week and people were waiting over an hour to get their vouchers. That seems like a very big inconvienance for something that is included in your package and could be sent to you ahead of time.

They check and stamp your return voucher at the counter. It will be in the book you receive before you leave home. There was a long line but it did move pretty quickly. They ask if you checked bags and how many.

Hi! Just got back. When we arrived there was a long line but there were TONS of CM's working and I was up front in minutes. I had my vouchers ahead of time and they stamped them, asked how many pieces of luggage we had, told me where to get on the bus, and sent me on my way FAST. Very easy and quick for us - we were at our hotel in one hour from the time our plane landed.

Now I am confused on this. Are the vouchers the ones that were sent in the clear package from WDW? We are leaving at the end of the month and I want to make sure that I have everything. I am still waiting on my ME tags. Shouldn't I already have received them?

Your DME voucher, etc. is part of the DME packet. If you have your tags, then you have everything else you need, too; it's all in one booklet. If you didn;t get your DME booklet, you don't have a DME voucher (you may just have something which says you have a DME reservation). That being said, you MUST check in at the DME counter. If you don't your luggage WILL NOT be delivered (I'm guessing the computer would alert someone that luggage is going but a guest is not, and they want this to be a ride, not just a luggage delivery service).

As to the DME line being an hour long? Well, I wasn't there on that day, but I am a veteran of DME. The huge line I was in (snaking past the rope lines they have set up) took me all of FIVE MINUTES to get through, as there were 14 CMs and a few managers working. My guess? Your friend didn't actually wait in an hour-long line, but either saw a long line and assumed, or he/she heard it from someone else. Sounds like a pure and simple urban legend. So I'm curious, did your friend ACTUALLY wait one hour in the DME check-in line, or is it an assumption/second-hand info?

Thank you for the info, but I feel like I need to get defensive!! I am so sorry for questioning the almighty DME! I was just wondering if you had to wait in line for the voucher. I have been on cruises and the voucher for transportation came with our "tickets" and there were no lines to wait in. I now understand it's because of the luggage and that's understandable. My friend did actually wait in the line, maybe there were less CMs that day. I did not question her for every detail. I thought I would ask the "friendly" DIS boards for help.

Here's to hoping there will be plenty of CMs on Sept. 3!

Has anyone that has recently visited WDW NOT recieved their magical express packet before leaving home? I am worried that we will not recieve it by our departure on 6/23 and then have problems when we arrive at MCO.
Would like reassurance.

I'm sorry, kaylie&laurensmom, I didn't mean to be mean! It's justthat I'm so used to people trashing DME, and often it's been "Well, someone told me ..." rather than first person accounts. Again, sorry to make you feel bad.

It sounds like some of the earlier delays were the vast number of guests who didn't get luggage tags. They had to describe their luggage which slowed down the checkin process.

Checking in is what clears you luggage to be sent to your resort. If you don't checkin Disney says they'll assume you missed your flight (bumped) and will hold your luggage at the airport.
