Why is this book so expensive? I wanted to get this for my son (age 4) so we can "get to know" the Disney characters before our trip in September, but I almost passed out when I saw the price of around $70 for a used one. There is a similar but more comprehensive book, Encyclopedia of Walt Disney's Animated Characters, and that one starts at around $20. But I don't want that one. It is a little older so might not have some of the newer characters my son will be familiar with. Plus it is more than double in size (480 pages as opposed to 192) and the book I want is more geared toward children. The book sound like just what I want, but more than I am willing to spend. Am I missing something?

Does anyone have this book? WHat did you think of it and were you able to find it for less?

We have it, my DS likes it a lot...we got it at a scholastic book sale at his school, so I know it wasn't that expensive--maybe $15? (that's a guess.) Maybe it's Out of print--could be why it's so expensive.

Is this the one you have? That is the one I really want. Anyone else have a suggestion for where I might get this cheaper of for a comparable book?

I had seen it years ago, not a bad book, but it is hardcover, and out of print. Maybe that is why it is so expensive. not sure how old it was so maybe more recent characters won't be in it. I had planned on getting one a couple of years ago to use as an Autograph book, find the character page and have them sign it but it is larger and heavy and i did not want to lug it around.

Wow, $70 for this book. We got it at Ross a few years ago and we lugged it around Disneyland as an autograph book. My kids loved looking at it when they were younger, so much so that a few of the pages have fallen off. I don't think it was bound well. You might try Ross or Marshall's. I hardly go there anymore but from what I remember they usually have lots of disney books in the toy section.

We do have that book. We bought it in MK one day when we were waiting forever for Crystal Palace reservations. We've had it for 3 years. I have loved the book and so has my son, but just about 1 month ago, the pages started to separate from the string binding. THin chunks of pages are beginning to fall out. Not sure why... I probably paid about $20 or so for it. NO way 70, we wouldn't have bought it for that.

We have this book also. I just looked inside the front cover and it is copyright 2004. It lists Disney Press as the publisher 114 Fifth Ave, NY,NY 1011-5690, It also lists a website www.disneybooks.com. I know I got mine at a scholastic book fair at my kids school within the last 2 years and the price on the back cover is $17.99 US. Maybe it is out of print? But I would suggest trying some chain bookstores like Borders or Barnes and Noble and they can check their national inventory and see if any stores still have it in stock. Good Luck!! . It is a nice book But I would not and Could not pay $60 or more:scared1:

Just bought this a few days ago for DD2, who is currently obsessed with it. We have the 192 page one which is what your link shows. OMG, $70! The list price is $17.99. We are fortunate to have a Scholastic outlet the next town over and paid only half price for it. Search "Scholastic Warehouse" and click on your state to see if you have one nearby. Anyone can enter the warehouse for their sales, you don't have to be school personnel.

I hope that this is helpful
I recently received "The Lakeside Collection" catalog in the mail and I was shocked to find the Disney Junior Encyclopedia of Animated Characters book inside for only $5.95!! I checked their online store -
lakeside.com
and they still had copies available!

I hope that this helps, I think that the people charging upwards of $50 on EBay for this book are just cruel.

I saw the new one at ToysRUs for twenty but I was disappointed because it's not new enough to have Lotso and the other TS3 toys.

I just bought that same book a few weeks ago at our local Toys R Us. It was 12.99, but they were having a buy 1 get 1 half price sale and I was buying a 15.99 Disney Scary Stories book also, so I got it for 6.50. I thought they would make great gifts to give the kids for the car ride to Disney. 13.00 yes, 70.00 No Way. :thumbsup2

I bought my grandson the paperback version in March for $5.99 from Amazon. I just looked in Amazon again and they are listing for $50 used, and $58 new!

I just bought a Disney;s encyclopedia of characters for my son at Lakeside Collections for 5.95 If you go to LAKESIDECOLLECTIONS.com it is under the books section. My son loves it...

Hey everyone..I posted this on teh budget boards a few days ago. LTD Commodities also has this for $5.95...I ordered 4. Couldnt believe they had it for so cheap..was super excited. IT is still showing as available.

Just receive it today. Lot bigger than I thought. If you want it I will sell for what I paid ($25). It is brand new.

Given that this thread is nearly 3 years old, and the book was wanted prior to a trip taken in September of 2010, I think you might be a wee bit late. :rotfl:
