Disney's Dumbo

This is an interesting thread since all of the movie reviewers I follow did not like this movie.

Why?

I was a little concerned with it being Tim Burton but found it more “Burtonesque” than full blown. The acting was good. The story was different from the classic but very good. The CGI was seamless.

I am not much for movie reviewers though. It’s just their opinion.

Another thing that is great about this movie is the score by Danny Elfman. I'm a big Elfman fan anyway, but the "Train's A-Comin'" tune with "Casey Jr." worked into it, I just love it. I can't stop listening to it!

From what I remember: Farrel was phoning it in. The kids weren't that great. Keaton was way over the top. Everybody liked DeVito though. Too many subplots that went nowhere. Too many forced self-references that were distracting. Couldn't pick a lane between the fantasy and real worlds -- which Burton has done well in the past, but it was too disjointed. The theme was only surface level (A story about overcoming disability, but Farrel's disability is never explored. The daughter likes science but it's not really developed. Keaton is supposed to be ... Disney?)

Oh, for sure. I think Dumbo has an 87% like score from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, so obviously the critics and public don't agree.

I'm not saying it's wrong to like it. I also haven't scene it, nor do I plan to. Didn't watch Beauty and the Beast either.
