Resort Thread Disney's Club Level (CL) Thread

Hi all, we’re sort of new to Disney World and planning a trip for end of 2014.

We went to Disneyland a couple of years ago and stayed club level at the Grand Californian, and we definitely took advantage and enjoyed the club level service there, so looking to stay club level resort at Disney World.

I think we’ve ruled out Animal Kingdom resorts, so besides that one, which is your favorite club level resort and why? TIA

Hi - welcome to the CL thread! I don't mean to pry but the answers can help tailor responses/feedback... mind sharing your party makeup and general age ranges? Also you say end of 2024, but can you share approx month/date ranges? If the holidays come into play that may impact some feedback/opinions as well.

:thanks:

Thanks for replying. We will be two families (sisters). There will be at least 6 of us, two adults and child (Teen/tween) per family, but we each also have an adult child that may or may not come, so could be up to 8. We are good with all in one room, if possible, as well as 2 rooms.

We would like to do the Not So Scary Halloween holiday.

thanks again!

What are your park plans?

We haven’t narrowed down the length of stay or order/desire of parks yet, still researching. We’re military, so will more than likely have the military discounted park hopper tickets, which should open more options.

In my opinion, no, not worth it at all. We've given it so many tries and it never gets better
Breakfast is awful. Donuts out of a box. Hard Boiled eggs done in bulk and rubbery
Absolutely no alcohol outside service at night. So no mimosa for you!
When they do have the alcohol out, and you aren't in the parks since it's peak park time, the lines are long and they serve you 1 drink at a time. They pull it promptly at the end of service, not one second longer
Dinner was not much better than breakfast, with what tasted like frozen mass purchased appetizers they bought from Costco

Portofino's food was better but they are still very awful about alcohol.

All in all, Lowes just does a very bad job with CL/Concierge.
To be fair the club level upcharge at Universal is typically around $100. Disney upcharge is frequently over $200.

To some extent you get what you pay for.

My memory is PBH had a rotating hot breakfast item. I remember an egg sandwich and some kind of western omelet.

Disney gives you club access until lounge closing time on your checkout day. Universal stops access around noon of your check out day. I don't remember the exact time.

If you prefer one park over another, you might want to choose a CL resort that is in the vicinity of that park. All of the CL lounges have their pros and cons. "Best" or "favorite" depends on your particular circumstances and may vary from trip to trip.

A split stay is also a possibility. Either two CL splits or a regular room half the trip and end with a CL.

Just extended my solo May vacation and added WL Standard King CL room to start off my vacation May 11 - 13, before moving over to GF in a resort studio room from May 13-19 with rented points! Looking forward to experiencing WL CL and being there on my Birthday!

Having mixed emotions tho as it will be my 1st trip since my favorite Disney travel companion - my mom... has passed! I've done a number of solo trips over the years, but normally my mom would come with me. When I went on my own, I would call her every day from Disney World to tell her about my day and what I took in. With her multiple health issues, Disney World gave my mom a way to still be able to go on vacation in her retirement and allowed us to create several amazing memories and experiences together! Thankful to have several of these captured with the Disney's photo pass!

Yep I understand . I have taken my mom a few times in her later years. she turned 82 3/1. I always call her to show her my room and lounge pix if it’s not busy. She is always happy for me.

However I miss calling my Dad. His last trip I took him and my mom without my DH or kids! We stayed at CSR and I made the both of them go down the slide. Great memories !

Hope you have an amazing Birthday!

How cool! How did you get it? I wouldn’t even know where to start trying.
Thank you!

I was googling and found it on eBay. But because of the size and glass, the seller wouldn’t ship, so they referred me to UShip to get it to me. I had no idea, but UShip is like a door to door delivery service. The logistics to coordinate all of the different people was challenging, but a little over 5 weeks from the purchase, it arrived! And now we have a little bit of the Boardwalk at home!

Got it, thanks!

You will find lots of opinions on the topic and there really aren't any right or wrong answers/ways to approach this, just whatever works best for you. There are so many pros/cons among each CL let alone the resorts themselves, so figuring it all out can be hard!

I guess depending on what you mean by 'sort of new to WDW' - I generally lean towards the MK/monorail resorts - Contemporary Resort, Polynesian, Grand Floridian for new or newish WDW folks mainly because they are the resorts that have the most broad recognition, proximity to MK, fireworks viewing, monorail. Sort of WDW at its core, if you will. You just can't beat seeing MK from your room (if you go with a Theme Park View room), fireworks from your room or hotel grounds, etc.

Since you are interested in MNSSHP then a MK resort offers convenient proximity. We tend to always lean monorail resort in the fall when MNSSHP is on the agenda.

CR, Poly, and GF have the largest rooms among WDW resort options and are slightly more accommodating to bigger groups than the Epcot resorts (if we're talking about standard rooms), in my opinion.

The monorail resort CLs all have a lounges and various location benefits that have a bit of wow factor to them... eg, Poly and CR lounges have MK views, GF is in the main building overlooking the lobby. CR CL guarantees a high floor room, Poly will be in the Hawaii longhouse, GF will be in the main building.

I have nothing ill to say about the Epcot resort CLs, their lounges and floors just don't really have the same unique place elements that the monorail CLs do (although in fairness, they tend to be materially cheaper, so if budget is a factor they shouldn't be discounted). What I mean by the above is that the lounges don't really have views of anything notable, most CL rooms are on the top floor of each but that's not a major value add at these resorts, relatively speaking.

No doubt the Epcot resorts have great locational attributes (walkability to two parks, Skyliner, abundant food/beverage options in close proximity). But on the margins I just sort of like those better for a more seasoned WDW traveler and not a new group.

If you want 6 or 8 people all in one CL room, your options will only be suites - and generally speaking there aren't all that many suites around the resorts (and they are way up there in terms of prices). Suites are sort of a whole other topic so I'll stop there before totally confusing you.

Personally I'd probably migrate towards CR or GF if I had to pick two to focus on. I loove Poly but its CL tends to attract a lot of families with younger children. Not that anywhere in WDW doesn't, there just tend to be more little ones at Poly and your slightly older group may like some of the other ones better. That said I could always make a case for staying at Poly personally. :-)

I haven't mentioned pools - if swimming/lounging is of interest there are various pros/cons amongst all the resorts as well that are worth digging in to as you continue your research.

I have purposely not mentioned Wilderness Lodge as those rooms are small, don't have daybeds (only two queens), and so I'm thinking may not be ideal for your possible party makeup. But if that's not a concern WL is a beautiful resort with a unique WDW vibe, MK proximity, and is cheaper than the monorail resorts.

Just my rambling two cents, but hope it helps!

Disney gives you club access until lounge closing time on your checkout day. Universal stops access around noon of your check out day. I don't remember the exact time.
We were told check out time is when access electronically ends, or a little after check out time.

Manager said their policy- and I don't want to overstate this - but general policy was to allow a 1-hour extension if someone requests an extra hour or so. Also, guests will not be kicked out if they are IN the lounge. Like if you are waiting for a ride to the airport, and hang out in the lounge that is fine.

Where Universal draws a harder line, and I'm not quite sure the best way to explain online, but they are not eager/willing to extend access to the appetizer hour food on check out day. (Like WDW, midday food is mostly just bags of chips and the like. The 5-7pm food is more substantial, so that is the reasoning. Check out day= you have not paid for the PM food.)

On the other hand, Universal hotels DO extend hotel PARKING privileges all day, until the park close, on check out day. Guests are also allowed to use the pool and other amenities all day, just not the lounge.

Hmm this is interesting, we stayed a night at Portofino CL last year and I remember stopping back in the club lounge to grab a soda and snack after the park on check out day. Is this a new policy or maybe we just got lucky? We were there Feb 2022.

We were able to use the lounge until midnight our last day and at 0800 on arrival day, even though we had checked out already and for arrival had not yet checked in. I'm pretty sure the policy is available from open to close on both arrival and departure day.
