Who has stayed at this hotel, and what were your experiences? Where's the best room location for a standard?

You will find many different opinions but in my case I can say that DGCH is my very favorite place to stay when we are visiting DL followed by DLH and then last or my least fav is PP.

As far as the best room location for standard I would say get a court yard view.......usually standard is either a city view or courtyard view and we really liked the courtyard view the best out of the 2. It is a very peaceful and beautiful view!

We have stayed in all the rooms or should I say we have tried out all the views they have there and really my very fav is the Down Town Disney District view. Many will say they like the Theme Park View or the pool view but for us hands down it is the Down Town Disney District View!!!

We have 6 weeks until our next GCH stay and I have a few surprises up my sleeve for DH as this is our annual Anniversary trip that we have taken every year since we spent our honeymoon at the GCH!!!

Anyhow I hope my post helps you out but really everyones opinion differs.

The hotel itself is beautiful and you will love your stay!

Have Fun!!!

I've stayed only once and I loved it. My other half will only stay at DGCH when we go out there. We had a Theme Park View, I loved it, we were at eye level to the trees in DCA, and every morning I would be woken up to the sounds of water rushing over waterfalls (we were over looking G.R.R.) It was wonderful, and I was there in Sept so we slept with the windows open so i could hear the water. Ahhh...so peaceful. We're planning another trip in Feb to go back, and I'm thinking of going with the Downtown Disney view this time, what did you love about that view so much poohbear??

I have stayed at the GCH once and wish I had the money to stay there every trip. We have a theme park view of GRR and absolutely loved the hotel. The beds were the most comfy beds I had ever slept on in a hotel and I loved White Water Snacks... decent prices for a good amount of food. All CMs that I encountered were wonderful and helpful. I realized that I had left our flight check-in information at home, so the CMs let us into the concierge lounge to use the internet and printer to print our boarding passes. For those who do remember their confirmation numbers (my mom), the CM at guest services were more than happy to check people in and print their boarding passes. If you get a chance to catch the storytelling, see it. because the storytellers are wonderful! If I do stay again, to save money I would go for a standard view with a request overlooking the courtyard. Those views looked very peaceful!

Oh and I forgot to ask what time of year do you plan on staying at the GCH?

We're going there in February, 2008. We always stay at DH, but this time we decided to try the GCH. It's my 5 year old's birthday, and we do this every year for him!

Thanks for sharing that with us!! Sweet and romantic!

Minicoopercraig,

I think what I loved most about the Down Town Disney District View was the fact that at night it is so beautiful all the lights and if you are up on higher floor in the hotel you see all the "little" people walking by and it was great to just sit out on the balcony and enjoy the air and the night and the beautiful colors...oh and we were able to see some of the fire works from DL from our balocony!
I really do not know why I really liked this view over the others but I just did and DH agrees he said he enjoyed the view from a DTD room the most as well!
Honestly my second choice view would be of the beautiful courtyard!!! This is one for those who enjoy peace!!!

Ok I am going to try to post a DL picture and see if I can get this to work!!
If it does this will be my first time posting a pic since becoming a DIS member!

Oh and while I am on the subject of DIS can anyone give me the 411 on the lime green mouse ears??? Can I get some?? How???

We just got back and actually didn't have a great trip... the cm's we encountered seemed like they hated their job. We had a trainee checking us in and that was a big issue - it took a good 15-20 minutes (with an exhausted and hungry 15 mo old who was screaming) - and she forgot to give us the welcome information. Our room was not well kept up. On the other hand, my parent's adjoining room was clean and nice and even had been refurbished. Go figure.:confused3

I just didn't feel it was up to the disney standard and we left still in need of some magic. It wasn't all bad - the view was good. We had a theme park view. Would have liked to be told that there would be an all night rehearsal of some parade though... and some notification (even if it was a LIE) would have been nice after a 3 am fire alarm. (Heck, just tell me that it was a false alarm, I don't care... I just wanted something acknowledging we were out in the middle of the night ...

I guess I should add that I don't think our experience is the "norm". We typically stay at the Grand Floridian at WDW and have never had such poor service, so this was a shock.

ETA: I am sure that if we would have found Albort, he would have been the happy cm on our trip! ;)
