Disneyland without a car

My dear friends,

DP and I are making our first trip to Disneyland in October. We are not renting a car and will be relying on shuttles or buses to get us to and from Orange County Airport. What shuttle services are good and would be able to accomodate some who is mobility-impaired (he will be able to transfer from a wheelchair to a van seat)? By the time we arrive, we will have travelled close to eight hours (including layovers) and DP will need to lie down and I don't want to wait for the Disneyland Express unless that is the best thing out there. Any advice, suggestion or experience would be appreciated.

We used the DL Express and only had to wait about 10 minutes. It was really easy and convenient. The waiting area is right outside the baggage claim area.

The least expensive option is SuperShuttle. It's $10 pp each way, but with coupon codes you can knock that down to $7. However, you sometimes have to wait 10 or so minutes for your shuttle van and you will be sharing it with others. If you want to walk out of the airport and head straight to your hotel, then get a taxi. It will run about $45 each way, so the cost is much higher for 2 people but you don't have to wait and you don't have to share with others. No reservation is needed for a taxi but do ask about a flat rate--they will give you one from the airport to the hotel but there is no flat rate for the return, although I've read of people who've asked and gotten their taxi driver's card for the return at a flat rate.

Here is a site that lists SuperShuttle coupons http://www.retailmenot.com/view/supershuttle.com. I always use UYR59. You have to reserve online before you go, which I like because it's taken care of when I get there. You can pay the tip online or in person-- I like to do it online. If you use the code above, you may not get the $3 off pp like you're supposed to. The website often messes that up so if you find that you've only gotten $3 total instead of pp, just do each person individually. It's easy because the info gets saved so for the next person, you just have to delete the previous person's name and type in the new one. One other piece of advice about the SS website reservation is to be sure to use the hotel name and not the zip code (you're asked to give one or the other). The zip code will give you a MUCH higher rate!

Disneyland Express is a coach bus with those steep steps. I don't know if they have any buses with lifts, but it would be worth a call to find out! How long you have to wait for them depends on when you get in...they are on a schedule from terminal to terminal...if you land 10 minutes before a bus leaves your terminal, and if you arrive during a time of day when they only have one bus an hour, then you'll want to really take your time getting your bags and out to the waiting area. If you land 40 minutes before a bus leaves, you'll want to be aware of that, and hurry if you can!

SS is scheduled more to you, and it's small shuttle vans, so it might be best for your partner. Again, you'll want to call to find out if they have any vans that are easier to get into.

You might also think of limos or towncars...definitely the more expensive option, especially if it's just the two of you, but it might very well be worth it.
