Disneyland has the best rides! I'm watching videos- they have Pinocchio, Alice in Wonderland and a Roger Rabbit car ride - are these still there? Or are these closed? Do they still have Mr. Toad?

I love dark rides like these, too bad they aren't in MK. The Alice in Wonderland ride especially and I love how it goes outside. :)

You might want to pop into the Disneyland forum to ask DL specific questions.

But yes, those rides are still there.

Oh man, now I'm looking at the other park - California Adventure - they have a Monsters INC ride!! :rotfl:

We aren't traveling to California anytime in the near future, but I'll have to get there eventually.

Thanks, I just had no idea they had those rides, dark rides are my favorite. I don't know why I assumed both parks had the same rides. :)

DLR is dark ride central. Fantasyland has the ones you mentioned plus Snow White, Peter Pan and Mr. Toad. While not dark rides, they also have the Storybook Canal, Casey Jr. Train and Matterhorn Bobsleds.

WDW may be the Flagship resort. DLR benefits from being close to corp HQ.

Disneyland benefitted from being Walt's Dream. All the rides mentioned by mom2rtk have been there for over 50 years - most opened at park opening in 1955.

The OP also talked about Monsters Inc, and Roger Rabbit. Both which post date Walt.

They also do things like the Nightmare before Christmas overlay.

I really think it has to do with it being close to the corp HQ.

Shhhhh. We don't what everyone to know DL is superior to WDW. :thumbsup2

Dark rides, overlays, Carsland and....NO MAGICBANDS! What's not to love about Disneyland! :stir: :lovestruc

We grew up in CA and have done both parks. Disneyland will always be our favorite. It just seems like you can feel Walt's influence when you are in that park!

WDW is my home park and I love it, but I absolutely ADORE my visits to DL. I wish I could go more often than every 3-4 years!

We live in West Texas so DL for Springbreak and WDW for summer is what we've done the last 2 years. I will say that DL with CA park is much easier to tackle then wdw. I also like there firework show because it incorporates the rides as a theme, the parks stay a lil more crowded but still awesome. Can't take away the magic of WDW though it has more appeal at MK. Also the SoCal weather is much better then Florida summer humidity lol

Okay...now I guess I'll be following up with a silly question. I'm a so cal resident so I've been a AP at DLR forever but I've never been to wdw during holiday seasons. It sounds like what everyone is saying is that they DONT do the Nightmare before Christmas at HM (can't say how happy I am this won't be there for my trip...I must be in the minority of people who hate this). But does the no overlay thing also mean they don't change IASW for Christmas? (This always made IASW a must do for the holidays)

Correct, they do not do Christmas overlays at Haunted Mansion or it's a small world at WDW. The only attraction that has slight changes for Christmas is the Jungle Cruise which began in 2013. I understand The Country Bear Jamboree used to have both a summer and a Christmas version but that hasn't been done in years. Of course all 4 parks are beautifully decorated for Christmas. Personally, I don't care for the Nightmare Before Christmas overlay either. I think the additions look cheap, imo, but I know there are folks who love it.

And remember Walt wanted the two to be a little different from each other. MK almost got a wild-west river adventure instead of PotC because they thought folks in Florida were close enough to the carribean they wouldn't care for the ride.

They don't do the IASW overlay at WDW. And thank goodness. You and I are opposite; I actually have grown quite fond of NBC overlay, but I despise with a burning passion when they mess with my fave ride, IASW. I won't even go on it if I'm there during the overlay time. Jingle Bells with my fave song ever is just flat out wrong. IMO.

And don't forget the Ghost Galaxy overlay on Space Mountain at Halloween.
