Disneyland Virgin!

Try orbitz.com. Type in hotels near DL. Find the HoJo you booked into and read the reviews for that hotel. Being near DL there will be lots of previous guest with reviews. You don't have to book through orbits but use their review process in the future. They've saved me a lot of frustration in hotel selections.

The Disneyland Resort is two parks and a Downtown shopping area. You'll be ready to see something new after 4 days. Not to worry, there are lots of other sites. Purchase a tour that will pick you up from that area, or rent a car. Suggest Hollywood area, the real Universal Studios, Warner Brothers Studios, a show taping at NBC or Sony Studios, LA area tours, Long Beach Aquarium, Newport and Laguna Beaches. San Diego, Sea World. Beware, Knott's Berry Farm will seem like a dump after the Disney parks.

Hope this isn't too late. It took a while to register. While Seaworld is a nice attraction and you will enjoy it, the jewel of San Diego is the Zoo. Whenever out of town relations come to visit, the locals always take them to the zoo first. Unless you are hellbent on petting a porpoise, the premium attraction here is the zoo. It is one of the few places on the planet where you can see both a koala and a panda.
The San Diego Zoo has a good website that will show you what it offers. There are a few additional things you might want to know. They offer a bus ride in their packages. It takes about 45 minutes & will show you an overview of the park. Then you can plan which exhibits that you want to spend time at. There are a few premium behind the scenes tour offered. They are expensive and if you are laden with Sterling, worth the admission. Those tours are not essential in making your time there great. There is a sister attraction called Safari Park (nee Wild Animal Park) which is further inland. I wouldn't consider it viable for you since you are coming in July and it will be very hot there.
There are a couple of other things you should be aware of. About 3/4 of the way from Anaheim to San Diego on the 5 freeway, you will go through the lovely hamlet of Del Mar. It is the home of the Del Mar Race Track which will be open during your visit. Traffic just before & after the daily meet is bestial.
Historically, the first post is at 2pm and the last shortly after 6 pm. From about 1 pm until 2:30 it can get congested. The evening window for traffic will run from 5:45 to 7pm. If you can time to not be in the vicinity at those times, your life will be a shade happier.
Lastly, about a third of the way from San Diego to Anaheim on the return, you will come upon a Customs checkpoint on the freeway. It is open only sporadically. They will generally just wave you through. If you are stopped, they will ask you nationality & if you are carrying any produce. There's really nothing to get twisted about, but if you don't know it is there, it could cause some anxiety.
