Planning a trip for our first DL trip in March. Have been looking at where to get tickets and was wondering is there ever an advantage of getting my tickets thru Disney when I make reservations for my room?

I'd go with no. Even if there is some perk like character meals or extra fastpasses, it's still usually much cheaper to book everything separately.

The only advantage I'd see with booking a package is that you don't have to pay for everything up front. With a package, you pay a down payment (usually $200) and then the balance is due 30 days prior to arrival. You can make payments on it if you want, but you don't have to until that 30 day mark. You can also adjust it up to a certain point if deals come out on room rates.

If you will be paying with Disney gift cards, then booking through Disney makes sense. Otherwise, I agree that it usually is a better deal to book things separately. Try looking for ticket deals through Mousesavers.com, aRes Travel, Getawaytoday Travel, LMT, etc. If you want a MM, those tickets have to be purchased in advance.
