Disneyland Rocks!

We have gone to WDW a number of times in the past few years, and we own DVC points. We just returned from a short, 3 day, visit to DLR using our points to stay at VGC. I must say we much preferred Disneyland Park to the Magic Kingdom and even CA, together with DL, as an overall park experience. Short walks, easy access from the hotel, lots of attractions close together, and more variety, especially for little ones. Only drawbacks, one small, one big. Small drawback is the lack of evening entertainment in the off season, so no fireworks, Fantasmic, night parades, or some of the stage shows for our visit. And, the big one, the park food.... WDW has it all over DLR where that is concerned. Food quality at the counter service in park was generally poor. Polite staff, clean for the most part, just not good food. Storytellers was the best - on par with the WDW resorts, but not too much else to write home about. Fix the food, and we would probably take the vacation there instead - and it is twice the plane ride for us. Oh, we really liked Indiana Jones...

I totally agree with you about the food. We were in DisneyWorld last August during the free dining and I cannot believe how good the food was and the variety. We ate at so many different nice places it was amazing.

I agree with the food assessment. There are a few good places to eat but not enough.

You have to see the fireworks, fantasmic!, and others.

RDCT (Remember Dreams Come True is the ultimate fireworks show and I've seen all WDW and DL have to offer).
Fantasmic! blows away WDW's version.
In the past the daytime parade (Parade of Dreams was much better than any daytime parade at WDW).
I do have to give Spectromagic the nod over MSEP though.

Fantasyland is amazing isn't it? The Aladdin stage play is top notch as well. So many great things at DL.

Great to hear you had a wonderful time. I am trying to tell all my disney park friends to give it a chance.

Whenever I hear them talk about the food at WDW on the podcast, I always feel disappointed in DLR. I've never been to WDW but it sounds like they have the food thing down. But I do have to say, it is much better than it was in the early 90's. DH and I would hope to find something more than an amusment park burger. So we started wandering over to the DLH (before DTD was built). And when we found the cute 50's diner, we were thrilled. A good meal and the price wasn't bad. We also used to go to the little snack bar by pool and get a few different things.

That 50's diner is long gone, but I'm am glad that the in-park food has made some improvements since then. One thing I do like about DLR dining is the fact that for most places it isn't nuts to make a PS like I've heard it is at WDW.
