I did a search here on the boards and did not have any luck. I am hoping that someone might have an answer to my question.

I know someone with a pacemaker that is planning a trip to Disneyland and wanted to know if anyone knows which rides they should not/can not ride on safely.

Thank you to anyone who has personal experience with this and might be able to shed some light for me.

FWIW, I just googled "disneyland pacemaker" and found some discussions about it on various boards. Might be some good reading there, while waiting for people here to respond with info. :)

Hi,
I can sort of help with this.
My mother was 100% dependant on a pacemaker during our annual band trips to Disneyland which she chaperoned.
Now please be aware different people react diferently depending on different things with their pacemaker. So please, refer to a doctor before taking my word as gospel.

Most of the rides will have warnings in front of them saying what your friend should or shoudn't ride.
Circular things are a problem, my mother couldn't ride Space Mountain or the teacups for this reason.
In terms of DCA, I believe California Screaming, Goofy's Sky School were the two that she couldn't ride there.
My mother also used an electric wheelchair because she coulnd't walk long distances.

Like I said it's best to refer to a doctor and the warning signs on the ride and your friend knows his/her own body and its limits too.

(Miss you mommy R.I.P.)

Thank you both very much for your feedback. My friend is young and very active but of course wants to be safe.

If anyone else has any ideas, I welcome as many thoughts on this subject. The more people who have ideas will help us to be better prepared.

Good question! My daughter who is 2 also has a pace maker and it will be her first trip this July/August and was wondering if any of the rides for her age may cause problems!

I am not sure about rides for the little ones, but I do know that California Screamin uses some kind of catapult system to "launch" you, and this system creates a strong magnetic field. A looping coaster may be a bad idea for a pacemaker user anyway...

I believe it is something with the gyroscope thingy in the pacemaker and centrifical force being used in the rides (that was how my mother explained it to me)
Like I said it is probably best to ask the doctor.

Tell her to call the doctor that downloads and reads her monitor. He will know her best as to what "rythms" she has and to what rides to stay away from.

I just talked to my cardiac surgeon this week and he told me "Have fun and ride California screaming for me". I have no restrictions  but once again this doctor knows me very well and gives advice based on my last 2 years of "rythms".

Thank you all so much for your help and advice. I can always count on my DIS 'friends'!

I have a pacemaker and I have been almost all the rides in Disneyland with no problem. I haven't been able to ride the Matterhorn, Space mountain, star tours, due to cast members telling me that people with pacemakers should ride. I haven't tried Indiana Jones yet. All the kids ride are fine. In California Adventure you can't ride California Scream, Goofys sky school, The tower of terror and one other that I forgot. Most ride operators if you ask know what rides you shouldn't ride and if you go to City hall and ask to talk to someone they'll help you out making what rides you should avoid since it's becoming a very common thing.

Also, make sure the pacemaker doesn't react to smart phones (ESP. Iphone). I have seem some report that they do and there are a lot of them in use in the parks.
