Disneyland Resort from a WDW perspective

I actually like FP+ so going back to paper FP will be okay but I think I will miss it.

I am also not staying onsite (not enough of an incentive to spend that much more) which will probably bug me more because I do like the Disney 'Bubble'. However I'm staying at BWPPI and I think the 5 min walk will soothe my busted bubble.

Think of this... you know how excited you get when you see the Walt Disney World sign as you drive into the WDW resort? (At least I get excited) You get the feeling once when you stay at WDW... however, when you stay off site at Disneyland, you get the feeling every morning as you enter the plaza between DL, DCA, and DTD.

Although I love splurging for the onsite DL hotels for special occasions, the BWPPI is our off property hotel of choice. It is SO close that you're not going to believe it. The free breakfast is nothing fancy but it's free and decent. The rooms were surprisingly quiet - I looked out my window once and saw a maid pushing her cart along, and I heard NOTHING.

But WDW is just so much work and so much more hassle involved than DLR:

• FP+ (which again we haven't tried yet),
• daily rain & high humidity,
• MASSIVE TRANSPORTATION TIME & STANDING ON BUSSES OR BROKEN-DOWN MONORAILS OR DIRTY BOATS

That third bullet is the worst and I would add "SOMETIMES WAITING IN DIRECT SUNLIGHT" and "CROWDED," too. I don't know why people gush about the "ease of Disney transportation" at WDW. It feels just like commuting to work and I do that every weekday. Why do I want to do that every day during a Disney vacation, too? (And actually, my buses/trains run much more frequently during my commute here in Chicago than at WDW trying to get to the parks!) My thinking is that most of the folks who like Disney transportation at WDW have car commutes and find it nice not to have to drive themselves to the parks. Do it everyday, I'm sure those opinions would change.

I agree with a pp, I don't get the bubble either. I understand what they are saying, I guess I just don't looooove Disney that much to need to be surrounded by it 24/7 to have a good time. I don't mean that in a rude way, just that I don't feel the need to be surrounded by Disney as some enjoy to. I've stayed at the DL hotel twice and across the street numerous times and prefer across the street. It was great to have a break from Disney food, Disney prices for everything including food. Even though there are different places to eat in DTD, it's still expensive and long lines.

I spent 10 days in WDW and I have to say, I donT't think I relaxed at all. There was so much waiting and transferring, things so spread out, it was tiring. Disclaimer that if I went there many times, I'm sure I wouldn't feel the need to see everything and it would be more relaxing.

Both parks are what they are, neither is better, just different. I am also one that doesn't find Harbor Blvd to be that bad. Actually while I was sitting on a bench in DL last week, I was thinking of 2 businesses that would be great to open on Harbor by the walk light. 1. Set up a line of those tacky feet shaker/massager thingies at the fairs that you put quarters in (cause my feet were burning at the end of 16 hours) 2. Those large golf carts with 3 seats to take people to the motels such as HOJOS or Castle Inn. Those would really make Harbor look tacky but at the time, my feet would have liked them.

There's a RUMOR (that's all it is at this point, I think) that Toon Town will be rethemed to Star Wars land or something. (Sadness.)

A hotel maintenance worker (informative equivalent to WDW bus driver?) told us that Autopia would be replaced by Star Wars attractions...

That rumor is an older rumor. The newer, more reliable (? ) rumor is that TT will go away and DL will expand outward for a new Star Wars Land.

See, I kind of want to plan a WDW vacation for either 2016 or 2017, but the amount of planning involved is overwhelming to me. Maybe it's not so bad when I get going and get into it, but I've never been as an adult (went with the parental units as a toddler) and I'm scared! Of course, I've been to Florida many times, but when I got older, we did things like Busch Gardens (which I LOVED), Sea World, and Universal Studios.

No way around the planning. Get active on the WDW forum 9-12 months before your trip and soak it in. WDW is a blast! I am really looking forward to my next trip in May. Snowing heavily this weekend in Colorado (14-16 inches at my house ) and we recorded a bunch of WDW shows on TV and watched them today.

From a just thrill rides perspective DLR can't be topped. Hopping between the two parks is effortless and affords the ability to go ride crazy. With the exception of MK the other three parks getting pretty boring pretty quickly.

But if you look at it from an overall full on vacation, WDW is better, we always go to parks in the morning and early afternoon then head back to the resorts for pool time. DLR is great for a couple day break from work and reality.

I have to say though that neither is remotely close to relaxing, thank God for Disney Cruise Line for allowing me to spend time with the mouse and actually relax.

For me the bottom line is none is better than the other, just different based on what my needs are. Luckily DLR is only a 6 hour drive so I get to go for a day and a half in 3 weeks , unfortunately my cruise isn't for another 216 days 4 hours and 22 minutes, but who's counting.
