Disneyland Resort Express---Please help!

Hello,
I have some questions about the Disneyland Resort Express.
1). Is it easier to purchase tickets beforehand or to pay when you ride? And is there a place to pay before you get on the bus? Or do they collect when you get off?

2). It says to make reservations for the way back to the airport. Is this necessary? Doesn't it go to all of the hotels listed on its schedule? Or is that just in case there are tons of people waiting, then those with reservations get on first? And finally, how do you make reservations (we might only take it on the way back, so are you supposed to call)?

I would buy your ticket ahead of time just for sake of simplicity. Also, you do need a reservation because the buses can get very full. While I'm sure you can just hop on a bus, in the event it fills up they will prob take the reserved passengers first.

Also be aware of pick up times. After a certain time they only come hourly instead of very half hour. I think. Lol.
