Disneyland Reopening Speculation Superthread

I keep wondering if these rules might diminish the overall capacity of the park (before calculating the 15/25/35%). It seems like if shows/rides/restaurants are closed, if queues are shorter in length, there would be less available space for people in the park.

(I kinda hope it does. 25/35% of normal capacity - with queues being spread out due to social distancing - would make the park look and feel awfully full, potentially like a normal busy day.)

One thing with ROTR: during the early (malfunction) days, it wasn't rare for them to bypass the first part of the ride when it wasn't working. So if the state decided that it counted against the 15 minutes, it'd be easy for them to just skip it. (And maybe even easier to justify, since there would only be a handful on board anyway.)

So has anyone else heard this or did the one TA I know just make it up? She keeps saying “rumor has it that a room reservation will be required” when tickets open back up. That just seems insane to me considering that only GC will be open.

I’m not seeing this rumor anywhere else

No. The math isn’t even close to working. It’s a ridiculous thing to suggest and she should know better.

I'm in the theme park entertainment business. I can say with certainty, based on experience, that if they cancel a show it is not coming back.

No lessening up on the out of state visitors either from this. My speculation is they will be allowed when that rumored green tier comes.

Not surprising but demoralizing. At least OC is moving quick through the tiers! Praying for November or I'll be pretty heartbroken.
Which is what I’ve been saying all along. For whatever reason, this is the hill Newsom is laying down on. He wasn’t going to loosen the restrictions, so the hope has to be moving through the tiers quickly.

Except Disney has already said that it won’t. They may have their own bucket of reservations or have some sort of priority though.
Own bucket with only single hotel open will essentially match that up. The hard part is trying to reconcile all the different platforms. MDE on WDW does it all together with hotels integrated with MDE. Disneyland's app doesn't have that so it'll be interesting how they reconcile tickets+hotel reservation= qualify theme park reservation and do that. -- holding onto our VGC ressies just in case! :)

I was kind of bummed about not being able to visit, but honestly these restrictions sound pretty complex. It's probably for the best (for us) that out-of-state can't go right now, because I feel like we're going to be missing out. I'm hoping by December things are a little more relaxed.

Same. We used to be local, and now we are out of state, and I have zero interest at this point in going back to Disneyland.

But I am super excited for Californians and eager to hear trip reports from Disneyland!!!!

I'm feeling the same way, having some of the rides possibly closed would be a dealbreaker. Long lines will be guaranteed, unfortunately though. But they will move quick since there's no FastPass to slow it down, makes the time pass easier if you're constantly walking forward.

I am okay with waiting until Christmas now, I would rather wait and go back when they can at least run things like WDW is. I feel like that's doable but any less than that is not for me. Especially seeing shops/dining closed too, you know they won't open all those right away.. it's been months and WDW hasn't even done that. Which is frustrating.

I’m trying to talk my husband into wdw later in the fall.... you know they’ll have food and wine and Figment...... 🥰

It will be based on the available occupancy. Closing Mickey's Magical Map and the Hyperion will decrease the available space, along with Bugsland being closed. They can't used closed areas to calculate occupancy. ETA - To clarify, it will calculate open space, not necessarily how many can now fit in a queue.

The other possibility is it isn't counted as part of the ride, but as preshow, which is a good possibility. Likely it will be walk thru.

No, but think there will be a special bucket for hotel guests, separate from the public bucket of tickets.

I'm sorry, I feel like we kinda already touched on this, but is pirates really over 15? Like from the moment you get in the boat to exiting? And does this time include when the boats are backed up toward the end and what not? Has the timing of the ride been recorded one boat at a time? Can they speed it up? It would be absurd of this rode isn't open. My heart would break.

ETA: I have read on allears.net it is around 14 minutes and other sources say 15 and a half and then 16. I really think without the back up andnissues it is more around 14

I think it’s just around 15 mins. But yes, they can speed it up and remove boats to avoid that back up. Hopefully they open it!

I've got a video recording of Pirates from March of 2009 where there were no boat backups - smooth from start to finish - and from the moment the boat launches to the time it arrives for unload is 14:50. It's definitely doable.

Having said that, after watching that video again, I have to wonder why there've been such monstrous boat backups every time I've ridden it in the last two years. It's such a better ride when you're not having to stare at the dynamite drunks for ten minutes.

If they load it at full capacity with many boats out it can cause backups. Not to mention random break downs or loading delays.

Hi, I am new here and I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts or speculations on if and when they might open up reservations and new tickets for Disneyland. Or if you think they may just open up reservations for existing ticket holders? Legacy AP here and wishing I would have purchased tickets before they suspended sales... but who would have... we were passholders ... Any thoughts on how many tickets are out there or timeline predictions? o_O Swirling with excitement!

I think they will leave the theater that Mickey's Magical Map appears in open. It would be a great relaxation station like Disney World has - where you can easlily space people out and have them remove their masks and take a shaded break. That will also leave that space available to factor in capacity. Probably not in the Hyperion because its inside.
