Disneyland Reopening Speculation Superthread

Folks, I’m confused. I’ve heard that there’s hope for a Sept opening and then — and this is the part that I don’t follow — 2021 seems to pop up out of nowhere. What am I missing?

stay hopeful for a September re opening, this is just internet speculation from an unofficial source. As much as @DLgal MAY have inside info, until something is announced by Disney we just continue as we are, one day at a time and just keep listening to official sources such as the CA Governor press conferences and local official news sources.

September reopening won't be happening. I agree with others that have stated that the metrics needed for reopening are so strict they are almost impossible to meet. The only way theme parks will reopen is if California changes the metrics. Most of the more populated counties in CA are currently on the state watch list and I don't see most coming off this year. Or if they come off they will just go back on again. It's likely things will get worse going into the Winter. I am wondering if I should cancel by Feb 2020 trip.

If this guidance is still accurate (if they got it today it should be but the new guidance, whatever the heck that means, comes next week) it is incredibly stupid of Disneyland to have been putting any money into COVID improvements in their DLR parks. For instance the plastic shields around entrance turnstiles will be subject to months of weather so they will need to be maintained/replaced by the time they get to open- or won’t even be needed. Waste of money either way.
I mean I guess it’s no different than businesses such as personal care who spent money getting in compliance with health orders, then to be told to close just weeks after.

I really hope the parks don’t stay closed through 2021. Disney has shown in both Florida and with DTD that they are willing to be stricter when it comes to masks, and enforcement than other non-essential businesses so I don’t see why they wouldn’t be able to open.

Exactly. There’s a reason rumors usually live on their own thread. 😬

Many of those small local hotels like Tropicana, Park Vue Inn, Candy Cane Inn etc. won’t survive a shutdown that long. I think this is complete overkill. Florida has successfully opened theme parks without massive outbreaks. So have the parks overseas. I don’t know. I’m not an advocate for opening too early, but this just seems like way too much. All of those poor businesses and the local economy. So many lives ruined and jobs lost.

Please be gentle with the flame throwers, but I'm going to put on my cynic hat for a sec...
Isn't this kinda what Disney has wanted all along?

Gads, it feels awful just saying that, but strawberry fields don't last forever if you get my meaning...

Losing money is never in the cards for a company. Success breeds success. Losing money to outlast the competitor -- not so much. Disney has been a pretty good corporate citizen and neighborly with surrounding hotels.

Disney knows they don’t have room to house everyone who wants to go at certain times of the year, and quite frankly their hotel prices are out of reach for many. We could afford to stay on property maybe once or twice a year with a discount. If the other hotels didn’t exist, we’d go way less often.

The same thought crossed my mind as well. Not that Disney wanted them to go out of business, but it may be that they now view the closure and its fallout as an unexpected opportunity for them. A slower reopening could put those properties within reach...

Love the strawberry fields line. Clever!

Actually some of those populated counties in CA are coming close to getting off the list. SD is off. SF could be off mañana. Metrics in other populated counties are going the right directions. It’s the rural ones going the wrong way now.

That was my first thought, too. Parking garages or more retail to expand DTD.

Tropicana and Camelot Inn are part of the BEI hotel chain so they may be saved from going under. Candy Cane was developed and owned by a wealthy Central Valley rancher so that may also be protected.

DIS reporting onsite hotels cancelled through 9/12. GCH and PPH still accepting reservations 9/16, DLH 10/1.

The cancellation is "on schedule" of rolling one week at a time on Thursdays.

It’s not like the virus is going away. Where does it end? That’s the logic I’ve used to finally get myself out of the house. After 5 months of not getting my mani/pedi I finally said forget it - I’m doing it. Otherwise, where does it end? I have covid-fatigue.
Not a problem in going out. Do it safely.

Even when the hair stylists had confirmed Covid and exposure to their customers -- both had masks and no transmissions in the contact tracing.

Same thread as Disney reopening - don't think it's an issue if kept mostly outside, distance, and avoiding gathering coupled with universal mask policy on premises to situations to cover when less than 6 feet apart.

Go get that mani/pedi

The official guidance said that theme.parks in CA will not be expected to reopen until the window January-April 2021.
Really not surprised. In fact no one should really be that surprised. Gathering spread this virus. We have several holidays in the coming months Holidays mean people will be having get togethers. I really see a spike in cases mid-September and several other spikes in the following months following Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years.

One 3 night stay at a Disney hotel is the cost of my entire trip. No way I could ever stay at one of their hotels. Even the good neighbor hotels have gotten quite expensive for many.
