Disneyland Reopening Speculation Superthread

This must be one of those urban legends, like Walt's frozen head in Pirates of the Caribbean. All you have to do is google the exact phrase "Disney settles lawsuit" to see a ton of news articles featuring Disney settling a wide variety of lawsuits.

this is what I get for saying never.

let me rephrase, Disney selectively settles lawsuits which have merit (ie Big Thunder Mountain death), but will fight tooth and nail at trial if it does not have merit (I think guy falling from skyway is in there).

there’s an extensive discussion of litigation history in one of Jim Korkis’ books, can’t remember which one and what chapter, but it’s there.

I saw someone had posted in the Disneyland June trip thread that Disney had cancelled their room reservations for June. I don’t have any more details than that. :( I don’t know if anyone else has had Disney cancel any June reservations?

My DVC reservation for June 28 is still active, but those are getting cancelled week-to-week and are on a separate system.

Everything is cancelled until July 1 at this point.

What do you mean by “everything”? I thought Disney resort reservations were being canceled week by week and hadn’t quite moved into June yet. Not that I expect DLR to open in June or anything mind you.

You can’t book anything at Disneyland currently until July 1. I think that’s what the poster meant.

I’m thinking at the earliest DtD opens in July. We have a trip rebooked for Labor Day weekend, which I thought back in March would definitely happen. Now, I’m not so sure.

They’re working their way through cancelling everything in June. The earliest reservations that are going to stay active are July 1, as indicated by their website saying they’re accepting reservations for July. I heard they should have cancelled everything in June by the end of this week - not sure if that’s accurate, though.

Is anyone here have underlying medical conditions, how safe do u think the parks would be even with all the measures. I have diabetes, my mom has lung disease and is on oxygen. We are heartbroken because we try to go twice a year, we were there the week they closed, and we have a trip planned in nov, I just dont know how safe it will be even if they open. We just disneyland and they make it so easy with those with disabilities. I am so bummed.
I'm planning on going with my parents in November. They are in their early 80's and late 70's. My dad as CPOD so that affects his breathing but otherwise healthy. While as of now we are going we may end up canceling depending on how things go.

Personally, I think it is very unlikely to be opened by Labor Day. I think California will focus on getting its schools opened first, and then will consider theme parks if the school opening goes well and there is not a huge surge in cases. I know everyone thinks it’s crazy, but I become more convinced every day that a 2021 reopening could be what happens.

I have a trip planned for 8/18-8/28. Staying at GCH. I also just got a deluxe AP that has no blackout dates for our trip dates. Good chance we will get in daily because we are staying onsite but what if they change the deluxe to reservation only as well? That would be the one deal breaker for us. I'm not travelling from NY without a guarantee that I will get into the parks every day. I am patiently waiting to see what happens. It's 3 months away.

Having just returned to work (I am a front line hospital worker) we are having to wear a mask during our entire sift (was not surprised by this obviously). Now having done this for 3 day now I have totally changed my mind on if I would be willing to wear one while @ Disneyland, before I was in the maybe willing group, now I am firmly in the NO chance in heck group. I will wear it at work as I am mandated to do so (not complaining as we need to practice safety for our patients and ourselves) and I will wear one in public if need be going to get groceries and things like that but there is no way I am wearing one for 12 hrs a day in 90 degree heat while on vacation.

Again I'm not complaining nor am I trying to say masks are bad or not needed, but for me if I was having to wear one on vacation, the vacation will wait till a time when I don't have to anymore.
/climbs off of soapbox. :rolleyes1

Sounds like u are in same boat as me, As copd is a respiratory disorder, my mom i son oxygen, Hopefully a safe time will come soon. my mom caught a stomach virus at disnyland once before and had to go to the er, wouldnt want a repeat of that.

One of my friends works at a store in downtown Disney and they were told that there is no hint as to when they were going to reopen.
I don’t know if this will effect Disneyland at all but the shelter in place order has been extended for another few months in Los Angeles.
The extension is not set in stone. Dr. Ferrer's comment to the Board of Supervisors was supposedly taken out of context when reported in the media. She addressed that in today's update.

LA County is pressing forward with slowly reopening businesses. My own speculation is that SAH will be applied to vulnerable individuals only.

Reminder: The "Ignore" button works in this thread, too! Don't get caught up in needless arguments -- just hit the "Ignore" button and move on. And the guideline against political comments still stands in this thread, as it does on all boards on the DIS. Just because speculation is being allowed here, doesn't mean the guidelines go out the window.

People will still complain because FREEDOM and 'MURICA and MY BABIES DESERVE 100% COMFORT AT ALL TIMES. But with rigorous enforcement they could probably get the level of mask cheating down to, say, the level of smoking area cheating.
Catching up on the thread, and can I say how much I love this??? Talk about summarizing half the response on the DIS in one sentence. I may have to borrow it :)

In Shanghai, you need reservations to get in to ensure that the park isn't overcrowded. By overcrowded, we are talking a fraction of the capacity of the park. Last week we heard that opening day reservations were gone in seconds, much like a ROTR boarding passes.

I just wanted to start a discussion on speculation as to how people think Disneyland will work reservations to get in. The bottled up demand in SoCal is real, and APs would flood the park today if given the chance. However, everything we've heard states that the parks will only open to a limited capacity like Shanghai. How are they going to get the reservations out fairly?

1. Just open everything up at 8am the day before and hope for the best?
2. Randomized queue like the DVC Moonlight Magic events?
3. Other ideas?
