So my boyfriend and I are disneyland regulars and were thinking about taking a day trip to the park with the purpose of doing some kind of quest. We are looking for something similar to a scavenger hunt, but for just one team, and something similar to hidden mickeys (but we've found a bunch of those and don't want it to be just that). Does anyone know of any list someone has made that we could do?

We're fine with either a straight list (like find a tribute to an old ride on a new one) or something that has more clues in the questions.

Either way, we would just like something that makes us see the parks in a bit different way and could last all or most of the day. We don't mind doing rides, but our point is to make this trip a bit different that others.

Any suggestions?

Our "quests" in the past have involved taking a picture of every bathroom sign I saw and making DH stand and take a picture next to every different trash can we saw. I've done scavenger hunts for my teen boys with prizes where they look for many different things. This past trip, DH and I wanted something to look for so we picked an animal but we ended up not really finding very many of them. However, we noticed quite a few gas pumps and started taking pictures with them. Not a zillion, but there are more than you would think, and not just in Carsland. It all started when DH noticed a mathmatical error on one of the gas pumps in Carsland. DH is a math teacher with a degree in math so he can notice these things with the same ease that I would notice a cute pair of shoes. :rotfl2:

Oh, and Wayne on the podcast suggested looking at the little guys in each popcorn machine which I tried to do this past trip and found a few different ones.

Have you guys ever tried Geocaching? It's kind of like a virtual scavenger hunt that uses a GPS to find little "caches" - basically little boxes or containers with a log inside that you can sign. Some have little prizes you can take, as long as you leave one (think stickers, coins, anything small). And others are virtual caches, where you find a specific spot and check in your coordinantes or take a picture of yourself. You can also log in your finds online, and it will show where you've been. My DH is way into it, but for some reason we've never tried it at Disneyland! But I just looked, and there are tons of caches. Here's the link to Disneyland caches on geocaching.com. I believe they have smart phone apps you can use. It's kind of fun!

How about pictures of the different characters that are attached to the popcorn vendors or different light fixtures? Or trying each different snack (carts only, perhaps?)

Get an app for your iPhone called "Wishing Stars"!
It has little quests all over DL that are hints and or pictures with questions or you just have to figure out where whats pictured is located...and then uses your phones gps to tell if your right or not!!! VERY FUN!! They have easy through difficult quests! Each quest set costs a little cash but its only $1.99 per set though.

WARNING.
Disneyland highly frowns on this. Not that they don't want you to have fun, but they will not let you "hide" anything. If they catch you, you may be escorted out. Think about it, with all the wacky stuff in the world, someone sneaking around hiding little boxes or bags does not sit well with security.

As stated before, the best way to do "quests" is to take pictures.

This sounds like fun. Would it be fun as a family quest, or is it more of an individual thing?

It would be fun for a whole family. My wife and I do it when we want something different to look at. It really makes you see more details and think about the park your used to seeing differently.

Thanks for the info. We will probably read up on the quests while we are waiting in line so we can search as we walk around.

Yes, most of the geocaches at Disneyland (in fact ALL of the ones I noticed on the list) are "virtual" caches where you take pictures of yourself at certain locations, or you find signs with different letters, and use those letters to form a message, etc.

Again, I haven't done it at Disney, but I don't think they'd have a problem with you taking pics of yourself or checking in on your phone. In fact, a lot of them had clues like "Ask the Cast Members" so I think they are probably in on it, at least to some extent.

I'm not sure about the ones off-property though, they could have hidden boxes, etc. But of the top 20 on the list, most had been found within the last week, so I'm assuming they are pretty well traveled and people probably know they are there. Either that, or they are so small, no one has noticed them.

We never knew about this. I just googled it and found several pictures. Very cool! Thanks for mentioning it. We will have to check it out on our next trip.

That sounds like fun! But, I am super dissapointed they don't have an app version for android. :-(

I've been wanting the wishing stars app for over a year, but I'm still an android user :(. We want to be together, so we aren't really looking for the traditional scavenger hunt where we split up. Picture taking is okay, but I would rather go for trivia/clue type things.

I know I'm being picky, I just wish there was something out there for us so we could stay together and learn our way through the parks.

For example, I noticed that there are a TON of clocks in Fantasyland my last trip. Something that would call my attention to stuff like that is what I'm looking for, as opposed to take a picture with a character/plaid/sign.

Get Hidden Mickey books and tape off the pages that give you the most info so you only read the basic hints.

DS and I got into trying to find them and secretly take the best artsy photos of them to compare later who the winner is.

Do classic things like have your Silhouette's done, get mickey ears, ride the canoes, etc. Don't miss Lincoln, etc.

Go on a Tour.

Splurge and eat at Carthay Circle.

You could try to find all the zodiac things around DL. When you find them all, let me know!

that sounds pretty cool!:cool1:

I just found this book on amazon.ca and thought of your post.

It is called Lots To Do in Line:Disneyland by Meredith Lyn Pierce

It contains questions and treasure hunts and you find the answers and/or items in the attraction queues. It also contains suggestions for "Collections" such as how many people you see with lightsabres, face painting etc in the entire park.

You can read small parts of the book on Amazon to get a better idea!

I thought it sounded like fun and ordered a copy! :)

In the DL Community section, there are threads for the bathroom signs and light fixtures around DLR. There is also a thread for flowers/plants (many of which are themed to their lands). These are all quest ideas.

The popcorn machine dudes have been floating around for a while (fellow DIS'er Mariezp started taking pictures of those a few years ago), so that's always a good idea.

During the holidays I do a Christmas tree quest (there are at least 700 of them around DLR) and a wreath quest.

A couple of quest ideas I also had (which I gave to Bret/mvf-m11c to take on) were to find all the heart images around the parks ("Heart Quest") - there are many more hearts than you would imagine - and also to take photos of all the signs around DLR ("Sign Quest") - shop signs, restaurant signs and attraction signs, especially. That takes a long time!

Bret also did a "ride vehicle quest," given to him by someone else.

Another good idea is a weather vane quest - there are weather vanes around Fantasyland and Toon Town, and I think there may be some in other lands here and there too.
