Disneyland Paris

I loved DLP! It was the first Disney park I'd ever been to. We went in 99 and 2000. The Buffalo Bill show was great, not at all like the HDDR but a word of warning. When I was there it was an indoor show with a dirt show ring. The horses kicked up a LOT of dust and it really set off my asthma. If any of you have breathing problems and it's still indoors you might want to skip that. SM was much more like RnR here. Maybe it's because europe is where most fairy tales originated but I thought Fantasyland in DLP was MUCH better than WDW. They just really knew how to do it. And yes, expect smoking to be much more prevelant. MUCH more.

Went to DLP and loved it. My only gripe is the climate of the region - why they didn't situate it in the south of Spain I'll never know.

Just wanted to point out that it is Disneyland Paris, not Euro Disney as many Europeans found it offensive. Enjoy!

If I go again--I would stay nearby and plan two days. The commute back to Paris for us about killed us we were so exhausted. We should have used our planning practices as we did back home and felt really like a tourist who had never been to Disney before.

We went in Spring (I think it was actually on hubby's birthday even in mid to late march). The day we went actually was more crowded than we expected.

Also--just a generalization, not meant to offend...it seemed queing up was a problem. We'd get to an attraction and there would be this huge crowd in front of it not moving. I just didn't get that. Once you burrowed through--you'd see there was little or no line for the attraction.

The CM's will speak English--I actually felt kind of bad for them doing so. I wanted to speak French (what little I knew) and they would not reciprocate. In fact, one even said "You're American aren't you". :(

We did have fun in the park--but we had some moments that proper planning and research would have avoided. The train ride in was easy. We had stroller age children, so we really should have brought the strollers. We rented them at the parc and they were a big PITA. Also, carrying back sleeping children on a one hour train ride and then subsequent metros wasn't much fun.

Splurge and stay on site!

(oh and despite my negatives--totally go for it. We were in GB and France for a total of two weeks. The kids were totally excited when we got to Disney. I think they for a minute thought we were back in Orlando).

Oh--I forgot one little detail.

While waiting in line for an attraction--I guess it is customary to let your kid drop trousers and pee in the bushes (more so "at the bushes" as there really is no modesty action). We saw this a couple of times.

maybe it has happened at WDW, I don't know--but I've been since the late 70s and the only time I've seen that is grown women and men in the marathon. Never on a regular park day.

Oh--and cool cool thing about the castle...

You can go underneath it and see the dragon. Kids who scare easily might not like it. But it was a pretty cool use of space.

If you go to the Disneyland Paris board and ask they will be biased as they love Disneyland Paris and you will probably hear no negatives. I have been three times and as DVC members can use our points there. However it is nothing like WDW and you may be disappointed.

If you do stay at a Disney Hotel on site the price should include breakfast and your park tickets. The hotels on site are lovely and the majority of them (all of the moderates and Deluxe ones) are within walking distance of both parks. The main park is beautiful and I prefer this Big Thunder Mountain and POTC.

To be brutally honest (and will probably offend many people) I find these parks really badly organised and do not take into account the amount of English speaking visitors they get. For example we went during a UK school holiday and I would say there was at least 50% english speaking people in the parks and perhaps more staying on site. There is a cinema with 15 differents screens and not one was held back for english speaking films. They had all been dubbed.

DH refuses to go back for many years as just does not feel like the magic of WDW. We have also been to Disneyland. It may be a climate thing, I just don't know but I don't want you to be disappointed. I want to visit all Disney parks and therefore if you are staying in Paris I would definately go to Disneyland Paris but be prepared to accept that it is "different"

Feel free to PM me as I do feel strong about this subject.

Sorry to go on.

Thanks, I didn't know that. Why was it offensive to Europeans?

mark&sue - Thank you for your honest opinion. :)

It was first called Eurodisney but had severe marketing problems and was re-branded a few years later to try to get a sophisticated feel about it.

I too get very defensive when my friends call it Euro Disney (but this is because I am a Disney snob!) For some reason the old name makes it feel tacky and trashy. This is my opinion but am sure there are others. I will always correct some one who calls it by the "wrong" (old) name.

This may not explain it fully but this is how I see it.

I would add that my best friend preferred Disneyland Paris to WDW but I am now taking her to stay on site and hope to convert her!!!!

Hope you have the best time.

There is also another great theme park just outside Paris called Parc Asterix which has a great on-site hotel which we have stayed at. This one is only open in the summer. There is also a Hard Rock Cafe in the centre of Paris which we found and of course Planet Hollywood and Rainforest cafe is on-site at Disney Village (always good for the T-shirts and glasses which we collect!)

Did you happen to catch sight of the lady who dropped trou to take a pee in the bushes back across from Corral G on the morning of the half marathon not long before the gun went off?
Oh, wow, did we and everyone around us get a giggle out of that! We were too slow in taking a picture, and a bunch of us started a clap for her when she got back to the Corral, but with two pairs of gloves on, not many of us made much clapping noise.
