As it's now officially 25 days until we leave for our DLP summer madness trip, I thought I'd put together an introduction to our trip. It's our first trip in high summer in about 6 years (the last time we were there in high summer was for the 10th anniversary).

Where / When are we going?

We're heading off to a currently unknown hotel near the Euro Tunnel on the 25th, then we should be crossing the Channel first thing the next morning and heading onwards to DLRP and the DCR from Calais. We're then staying at DCr for 5 days (4 nights), so we return on the 30th.

What are our plans?

We've got 5 days total there, most of which are likely to be sent in the Disney parks. We're taking a day away from the Disney parks to visit Parc Asterix on the 28th (I'm rather fond of roller coasters and theme parks in general and haven't yet made it to PA, so I'm looking forward to that day).

We want to have a go at the tree climbing course at Davy Crockett Adventure and I'm perfectly happy to join him, so we'll be doing that first thing on the 29th, although neither DM nor DSF seem too keen on joining us :lmao:

No doubt we will want to go swimming at some point; we've generally found the pool at DCR to be a very good pool, if a little cold in the winter! Hopefully being the summer, it'll be nice and warm this time though...

Apart from this, we'll be trying to do as many rides as possible, making sure we see the fireworks and Fantillusions because we haven't seen either in a few years and generally having a good holiday.

Where are we eating?

We decided that we'd try out some different restaurants for a change, so our restaurants (which we booked at the weekend) during our stay will be:

  • Crockett Tavern
  • Inventions
  • Steakhouse (sunday brunch)
  • Walts
  • Ludwig's
  • California Grill
  • Silver Spur
  • Plaza Gardens (tea party)

So basically, that's our trip. We've still got a couple of things left to book (mainly the Euro Tunnel, the Ashford hotel and the tree climbing. Congratulations to those who made it to the end of this, because it's grown slightly longer than I was originally planning. For those of you who have made it to the end, there's one more thing...

Our transport curse...

First, a small amount of background. We've been to DLRP quite a number of times, but we've often had somebody else go with us. We have been 3 times as a group of 4 now (this will be our 4th) and every time, we've had travel problems on the way back, so I now swear that we're cursed (there's never been a problem when we've had others with us). These have included:

  • Horrid traffic on the way back to the ferry causing us to almost miss the ferry
  • A bomb scare at the airport which would have made us miss our flight had the person who's bag caused the scare not been on our plane
  • A nasty road accident involving an overturned lorry and several cars which made us miss the Euro Tunnel.
Anyway... I wish to propose a new DISboards game. The aim of the game is to try to guess how the curse could affect us this time. Bonus points will be awarded for creative suggestions and in the event of us being affected twice and people guessing both, then the "winner" is the person who guesses the more bizarre problem :rotfl:

I predict a dancing dog will get on to the motorway and then perform several acts to the bouyant watching crowd, which you'll unfortunately be stuck at the back of for ten minutes while he finishes his routine!

But I wish the rest of your trip hassle free

I see you havent booked your hotel nr Channel tunnel yet

we found holiday inn to be cheapest, just £44 for a room sleeping up to 4
http://www.ichotelsgroup.com/h/d/ex...che=asd&availCheckCaching=n&_requestid=651836

travelodge was £53+ !!

Thanks for that, but unfortunately the nearest Holiday Inn seems to now only be offering rooms for up to 2 people maximum and the one HI which does offer more only appears to offer rooms for 2 adults / 2 children or 2 adults, where as we need 3 adults / 1 child and explicitly says "no extra bed allowed".

Looks like we might have to book 2 rooms instead of 1 which is a bit irritating, but not a disaster.

We have stayed a few times at the Travel Lodge in Ashford and it definitely allows 3 adults and 1 child as this is what we had at Easter. If you check the travel lodge website you can occasionally get it for their special super saver rate (£19 or £29)

As it happens, this was where we stayed last time we went. Unfortunately, their family rooms are fully booked this time.

I'm guessing that weekend's quite popular, because not only are all the family rooms booked in most hotels nearby, but the Euro Tunnel is also quite hard to book because we're over the 1.85m limit because we need a roof box.

Update: We've booked the train now, so it's just the hotel left to sort out now. We had a choice between 04:20, 07:42 or 11:20. We opted for the 07:42 :)
