if you mean the show by the train station with the characters, then no. At least not that I've ever seen.

No, neither DL nor CA have opening shows like those at MK and occasionally AK, Epcot and DHS.

But they should!

At Disneyland one of the cast members operating the gate starts a simple countdown and encourages the visitors to join in. That's it.

They sometimes pick out a family to come inside first and help out with the countdown, saw that at both parks last week.

I've seen pictures of DL park before opening and they had characters out for M&Gs, do they still do that?

I have, on a few occasions, seen the Disneyland Band come out to the gates and play the Mickey Mouse Club March for everyone just prior to park opening.
