This is a duplicate of a post to disABILITIES. Since that forum appears to be mainly intended for WDW, I am posting information about a company I used for rental of an ECV for ten days while at Disneyland. I had not, in the past, been able to find out information related to this.

Several months ago I had asked about long-term ECV rentals at Disneyland. I could not find any information about that, although there has been much information for the Orlando area. I contacted one of the Disneyland Hotel concierges and was put in contact with the following company:

B&R Medical Equipment, Inc
2520 South Fairview Street, #A-1
Santa Ana, CA 92704-5334
714-850-9326
FAX 850-9816
I don't know if they have a web site.

I contacted them and was quoted a total cost of $182.75 ($145 rental + $25 delivery + 12.75 tax) for my arrival on Saturday September 1 and departure on Monday September 10. My credit card was charged for the full amount the day prior to my arrival, which is standard.

Due to my weight I was given a "heavy duty" ECV. This had four wheels and a headlight, but no basket, although the agreement called for one. It did not have a separate charger, but one was built-in, with a cord hidden in the back. I do not know if it could be broken down, as I did not have a car and everything was fairly close by. I did not particularly care for it as it was not as easy to control as a three-wheeler, and not having a basket was a problem. Also I felt that it was fairly jerky, especially at low speeds and when coming to a stop from a low speed.

Another person in our group at Disneyana had contacted me in advance and I had told her of this firm. She was rented a three wheeler which did have a basket. I am not sure of what she was charged, but it was less than my cost.

I would rent from them again. However, I would specify that I wanted a three-wheeler and that it must have a basket.

Here is another company that I know of that someone used, and they were very pleased. They also will drop off and pick up from the Disney-area hotels:

ScootAround Rentals

Thanks for the information, Cheshire! :)

Do you how much these normally cost? I sprained my ankle on friday 9/14 and we are going to DL on Monday 9/24. So I am wondering if I have to get a wheel chair or ECV. Hopefully my ankle will be ok (knowing my luck it will not).

I know at WDW in the parks they are $40 per day with $10 refunded when returned. I think the prices at DL are about the same. Note that if staying at one of the DL hotels there is NO transportation between the hotels and the parks. The monorail is more of an "attraction" at DL rather than transporation; it stops in Tomorrowland and in Downtown Disney only. There is direct access to DCA from the Grand Californian. If you feel you will need one, I would strongly suggest contacting either B&R or ScootAround. JudySue said that she was doing more walking just getting between the hotel and other places than she normally does at Epcot.

Thanks Cheshire Figment. Hopefully I will not need one but if my ankle does not get better by Friday or Saturday I will contact them.

Looks like I will be renting an ECV but I can get it for the week for $75. I am getting it here in town and transporting it to CA.

Also there is no chance this ECV will be stolen? You just park it and take the keys right? I am kinda worried if I rent this someone will steal it while we are doing a ride or in a restaurant.

Also did you go to Universal Studios? Is it handicapped accessible?

I guess you will be driving from Tucson. Make sure that you can take it apart and put it together again. Also, even more important, make sure there is room in whatever you are driving for the ECV as well as your luggage. They take up a lot of trunk space. Be sure you know about charging, and also a front basket is necessary.

Just about everything at DL appears to be accessible; I had almost no problems (except the Blue Bayou asked if I could park the ECV and navigate up about four steps rather than take me through the kitchen, and for the Gallery someone had to go upstairs and then I was met and taken [via a VERY small elevator] through the Club 33 kitchen). You might want to have a couple of bungee cords in case you have to bring crutches along (for getting some places). Normally just park it near strollers and take the key; they are somewhat hard to steal without the key and many people (including security) would notice someone trying to push one.

Since I was at DL for Disneyana I did not go anywhere else. Actually, you might be able to get more assistance at the disABILITIES forum.
