Cant believe Matterhorn is down for the summer.I will tell everyone this is a bunch of bull. I called Disney 2 weeks ago before booking my trip.I new about the refurbs in June. I asked about July. The guy laughed it off and told me nothing going on in July. So I went ahead and booked vacation coming from NYC. Told my kids about Matterhorn. Showed them video of ride. Then 2 days later Mouseplanet reports refurb for the summer. I call Disneyland everyday for the next 10 days being told by those idiots, nope those websites must be mistaken, they are wrong BLAH BLAH BLAH. So my questions are why the hell do third party sites have info before Disney. Why the hell are they closing ride down for 5 days, opening it closing it for 5 days then reopening it for 2 weeks only to close it for 2 months. Why the hell if its a saftey issue that suddenly came up like some have suggested does Disney keep ride open now and risk injury or death to someone. Lastly does Disney really want me to believe that they are closing the ride for 2 months and they didnt know about closure when I called. I dont want to hear about calander only goes 60 days ahead. They put me on hold to speak to someone. I am coming a long way to have the ride they are known for during the busiest time of the year closed. I am not a local that can go anytime. I should have went back to Disneyworld.

I will miss Matterhorn too, and am as disappointed as I have ever been over missing any attraction. This will probably be my one shot of a lifetime at DLR and I was thinking that since I planned a mid-summer trip I would experience Matterhorn. It's too late to turn back now, but had I known this I would be at WDW this summer and done DLR in 2012. All I can do now is enjoy all the other stuff, which I know I will. I must admit I am a tad bitter about Matterhorn though.

I saw the staggered closure schedule on MousePlanet and wondered whazzup with that too. Seems like over the years the Matterhorn has been down more than other rides, but that's probubbly just my perception. I was also surprised that Splash Mtn has been down for so many months, but that's due to remodeling the queue.

Oh no!! Really?? I am so sorry that your family won't be able to ride it. When I was there on the 6th, the ride broke down twice while I was in line. It was insane!! I didn't move from the line though, I was just too close to the front. I hope you have a magical time despite the ride being closed. I was really depressed about Splash Mountain being under refurb.

Its just so wrong I did my part by calling in advance. Those people that answer the phone are like robots. I mine as well be listening to a recording. Disneyland didnt do there part.

Have you booked your flight yet? I'm assuming you have, otherwise if it's that important you could just move up your visit dates. I'll admit, when I heard it was going down for refurb and I'm going to be there only days before it closes, I was relieved. I'd also be pretty upset to miss it since it's one of the rides unique to DL that we don't have here at WDW.

In defense of the cast member, please remember that the Disney parks are huge beasts and one hand almost always doesn't know what the rest of the body is doing. Unless the company released an official statement which is then fed to all the branches, I'm not surprised that the reps taking calls did not know. My best friend works in Fantasyland at WDW and she shares with me often about how her and her coworkers are always last to know--and about things within their own park! Is it wrong to keep reps who speak directly with guests making reservations and sales in the dark? Yes. But that's the fault of the big wigs, not the reps.

Whats so depressing is that its the only big ride that we can ride as a family was the Matterhorn. My son is about 38 half inches tall. The Matterhorn would have been perfect. I cant stress this enough I called them. They misinformed me.

Yep booked the flight. My wife is trying to calm me down. But like u said its unique to Disneyland. Thats why it bothers me so much. If it was Splash or Big Thunder or Tower of Terror I wouldnt care. But this will be my only trip here and I am just so upset.

To tell you the truth, the Matterhorn is sort of overblown. It shakes you around a lot and give you whiplish and a neckache. I love Disneyland and couldn't care less about Matterhorn. Even if you go and it is down, it will be fine and it will still be Disneyland. Just go and have a good time despite the Matterhorn-less state. I swear, it will be okay.:wizard:

Thank You but still nobody has answered any of my questions. I wish a Disney rep posted on these boards but of course they dont.

What questions do you need answered? This is not a "disney representative" type of board--it is just a regular member/fan board.

Who knows why it happened. It does seem out of the ordinary. You will have a good time with the other rides though! I would be disappointed too, but there's nothing that can be done, so hopefully you can have a good time with your family doing everything else there.

My grandson was 6 last summer and he loved loved loved big thunder, I would not take him on Matterhorn because its so whiplash like of a ride as someone else stated. Its bad you called and didnt get the correct answer but its not the be all end all ride. I say have fun and find magic and let this one roll off as bummer but ill find fun anyway. (Btw he is small for his age and was able to ride Space mountain too. He just didnt like the dark)

I know its a fan board but maybe somebody has info that I dont. Remember these fan boards is where I found out about Matterhorn. 10 days before Disney had info.

I fully understand your anger. I went to DLR and Space Mtn. was down. I could have sworn it was down like two years because it seemed like the next summer it was closed, too. However, I don't think that they didn't tell you just to make your life miserable. Maybe they couldn't tell you. Companies have policies about when things can be told. Of course, leaks happen, but they can't confirm those leaks until the company tells them. Calm down since there is nothing you can do and enjoy everything else DLR has to offer!

Would you be let down if it broke down whilst you were at DL?
I can see your point, about the representative not telling you it was closed but maybe they honestly didn't know - we're all human. As the poster above said, they might not have been legally allowed to say; just because it had been leaked online it might not have been 'official' to Disney CM at the time. Don't let it ruin your trip.

When we went, there were multiple rides closed (it was off-season time) but that didn't stop us having a good time. It was probably a once in a lifetime trip (coming from OS with my family) but just because we didn't ride Splash or it's a small world didn't mean we didn't have a fun time! Numerous rides broke down, Matterhorn included; I am probably wrong in saying this but I thought I'd read elsewhere that the reoccuring maintenance needed for Matterhorn especially when it's busy could be a reason it is being closed. Who knows, just roll with it, relax and enjoy the trip. Disneyland isn't JUST Matterhorn after all.

I'm sorry it will be down for your trip. It was down for our family trip in 2010. I was sad because my daughter was tall enough for that but not the other major coasters. She did end up doing the Gadget Go Coaster in Toon Town and absolutely loved that. So at least there is still one coaster your whole family should be able to go on.

So are you saying that if they told you it would be down you would not have booked a trip at all? You would consider not going to Disneyland at all because 1 out of 80+ rides and attractions is down?

You know, maybe Matterhorn will be down this summer. But I am still waiting on seeing that from Disney.

The folks around here are taking it as gospel and getting all worked up. I will believe it when I see it.

:cool2:

Hydroguy its on Disneys Calender. Crazyduck I would have went back to Disneyworld. I swear the main reason I booked Disneyland was so my family could go on a real coaster. That was the only one my son who is only 38 half inches tall could go on. I know it sounds stupid but I am a stupid guy what can I tell you. I called Disney in advance for that reason to see if it was being refurbished. They said not in July. And as stupid as this sounds in all of Disneyworld which is 100 times bigger than disneyland there were 0 coasters my son could ride.
