So, I have never ever been to DL. I have been to WDW about 13 times and am going twice this year. We are considering mixing it up a bit and going to DL next November (2015). We get military discount and from what I understand it is similar to the discounts we get in WDW. I am wondering, does DL decorate the parks for Christmas like WDW does?? That is important to us as we love the ambiance. Are there a lot of things for a toddler (she will be 3) to do like there is in WDW? Is a 3 day pass enough to cover the two parks? How far is Universal from DL? Do you think we will enjoy it as much as WDW? (I mean it's DISNEY so, how could you not?? But hey, never been so I don't know haha) I know there is a big size difference in the two. Any opinions/advice is GREATLY appreciated as I am a complete newbie to DL! Thanks!!!:):)

We love DL - yes, there is a size difference, but we actually like the convenience of the proximity of the parks better than WDW. We are from the West Coast (Canada) so DL is our home away from home…

Have you decided on a resort? If you are staying at a Disney Resort, you receive early morning entry (specific days - alternates) every day with your ticket just like WDW. The Grand Californian has entry right into California Adventure too. If you are not staying at a Disney Resort, you really should consider the Park Hopper option as the two parks are basically a 2 second walk gate to gate!! Plus the park hours are different… some nights DL is open later and some nights California is… that way you close down one and head over to the other to finish your day.

Disneyland and Magic Kingdom are laid out fairly similar and California Adventure is similar to Hollywood Studios plus Cars Land of course! (We love Cars Land) Downtown Disney is much smaller, but quite a few of the same stores…. it is also only a couple minutes walk from the gates to the activity of DTD.

We actually prefer Disneyland….maybe we are biased, but we go to DL yearly and WDW is a once every 3-5 years just due to the size and cost to travel down the coast vs across the country. (8-14 day vacation to Florida, or Long weekend trek to California).

WDW is a 6-8 day trip for us and DL is 3….

Oh and yes, they do the park up for Christmas…. and Halloween, and hold the parties too!

You can go to the Disneyland at Christmas/Holiday Season Superthread #4!! - Under Construction!! which will tell you everything about the Christmas/Holiday season at the DLR. If you have any questions regarding the holiday season at the DLR this is the right thread.

Currently for the party tickets, there is only Mickey's Halloween Party during the Halloween season at DL. Right now we don't have a party event like MHP during the holiday season but there is a possibility that a party ticket for the holiday season will happen in 2015.
