We are taking our first trip to DL May 17 for a week. I was wondering how crowded it will be then and what the weather might be like.

Keep in mind that there are Grad nights in May the 15th, 22nd, and 29th, so I believe that DCA closes early, not sure how everything else is effected.

Here is some weather data:

Probably crowded on weekends and not very crowded on weekdays. But entertainment will be cut back on weekdays. During this time you should plan some days of your visit on weekends and some on weekdays.

We will get there May 14..yes there is a grad night the 15th.
By looking at the DL hours listed it looks like they don't expect HORRID crowds, but the opening times are extended to one hour earlier in the morning so maybe they are expecting bigger crowds than the week before. I am hoping it isn't awful as we are taking our 5 young grandkids, none of whom have ever been and I'd like it not to be a total zoo.
What I remember about the last time we came during this time frame was the masses of busses dropping kids off from local schools..does this still happen? (I bet it does. but one can wish not)

We went last year May 5-9. It wasn't too crowded, we were able to walk on or have a short wait on most everything, and it was HOT! Even though it wasn't in the hundreds or anything crazy, it just felt hotter walking around in the sun all day. Find a shady spot for the parades early and make sure you think about a spot where you won't be looking right into the sun!

We'll be there at weekend. The 16th through the 20th. We went at that time last year and it was hot, but not abnormally busy for the weekend.

I was there may 8/9....and yes it was hot as hell LOL.........99 degrees on may 8 to be exact.

the lines were all short.

We were there at around that time last year & through the week the lines were quite short if there was any at all.
The days were pretty warm but one evening it got quite chilly. We were really wishing that we had brought light jackets with us.
As for Grad Nights, the parks did close early & the never ending stream of busses FULL of grads were arriving as we were leaving but other than the hours, it did not affect us at all.
