Hello! We were originally considering a visit to SoCal over winter break but are deterred by the reports of high crowds. We typically travel every winter the first week of February. I haven't been to DL in many years (and the rest of my family has never been). Will many attractions be closed for refurbishment during that time? I know when we go to WDW they can be. What about DL? Will we be disappointed if we go at that time (first week of February)?

Typically, Splash and Grizzly River are down. Beyond that, it's rarely the same. That being said, it's commonly the time I go in winter; crowds are low-ish, hotel prices are reasonable, and weather is better than it is in Oregon, lol.

As the PP said, it's hard to predict closures, aside from the two water rides that generally close in Jan/Feb for their annual refurbishment. Depending on the schedule, It's a Small World may also be closed to have the holiday overlay removed. There will most likely be a few other attractions that are closed for refurbishment, but it's hard to say what they will be or how long the refurbishments will be.

Both times we have been in late February/early March, we have been faced with HEAPS of closures. Both times Splash Mountain and Critter Country as a whole have been closed. Several major headliners have been down. Plus there's the off-peak show schedule (make sure you factor in enough weekend nights/days to see all the shows you want to). Having said that, the first time we went was in the lead up to Carsland opening, and the second time was just this year while they're prepping for the 60th anniversary, so there were probably more closures than usual. If you're one of those families who MUST ride A, B and C for your DLR trip to be complete, it's probably not the best time for you to go. However, if you are like us and just enjoy being at DLR, enjoying the theming, taking in the atmosphere, enjoying the attractions that are available, and just generally letting the magic soak in, I think low season is definitely the way to go!

We went for 2 weeks the 27th of January to the 10th of February, and there was significant portions of both parks (grizzly peak and critter country) closed for refurbishment, BUT I know splash mountain is getting a huge refurb and a lot of big long-time-coming changes were due in the grizzly peak area and they have probably taken much longer than the yearly maintenance because of the 60th anniversary this year.

I really wish I could have gone on SM and GRR but the significantly lower crowds on weekdays and much milder weather (I am not a heat person) plus the decreased cost of everything were worth the losses. We also didn't get to see world of color which was disappointing, but I don't think that was an annual refurbishment, I think that was a much bigger undertaking as well because it was down for quite a while IIRC.

We went to DLR for Presidents' Week in 2008 and 2014. LOVED it. Yes, there were a few disappointing closures, but that doesn't stop the fun!!! Last year our hotel room (Deluxe at Desert Inn & Suites) was $69/night! We have reservations now for next year at $69 for Monday through Thursday and $109 for the weekend nights. Reserve as early as possible for best hotel rates if you decide to stay at DI&S!!

Winter hours are definitely shorter, but Presidents' Week hours are longer, which completely offsets the somewhat larger crowds. We had a bit of rain in 2008, but we totally didn't care.

It's DISNEYLAND... :) It's always fabulous!!

Outside of Splash and Grizzly being down, I can't imagine a huge amount of attractions out of commission due to the lion's share of them being down this last winter break. How much more could actually go down for refurb?

As I mentioned Small World is often down in early February to have the holiday overlay removed (it all depends on when HolidayTime ends and when HM re-opens after having the HMH overlay removed). Other than Splash and GRR, it's hard to say that anything else will be down for certain. I would guess that unless the crowds are super high, the Columbia probably won't be running. Other than those, there are usually a few short refurbishments during the winter months, but the attractions can vary.
