This will be our first trip to DL with our 2 kids (3 and 5). We are thinking of going Aug. 17-19 in 2009. It is a Monday-Wed. When I looked on the calendar for AP holders that Sun. is the first day they are allowed back in the park after blackout dates. Because of that, is that week generally really busy?

Thank you!

Typically AP black outs are in line with the busiest times in the parks. If there are less black outs it means it shouldn't be as busy. But it will not be an empty park, but you also shouldn't be in wall to wall people either.

2 years ago we went in the middle of August, wasn't bad at all. I honestly have never been at a "slow" time but I have never felt that DL was too crowded. And since you are going during the week, I'm sure it won't be bad.

I agree, we went middle of this last August 12-17 and I was pleasantly surprised at how manageable it was to do what we wanted to do. I have never gone when kids have been off of school, we always go in the slow and value seasons so I was really nervous, but prepared. I thought it was a great time to go, but I had a plan and was there really early and that helped. :thumbsup2

We always go mid August and it is busy and warm..we missed last year so can not compared to the 3 previous. SM FP's were gone by 11AM.

I would tell you any time in the summer is busy, but I live hare and have gone on days where it is really nice, not crowed and you can even walk on some rides. Last Monday was one of those days. Had a great time.

It's crowded, but definitely manageable. I've been the past 2 Augusts and we've gotten in a TON of rides and attractions. It's all in how you tour. Arrive early, maximize FP and park hopping strategies, and understand each attraction, and touring the park should be easy, even during that time of year.

It really depends on one's definition of crowded. For me, I don't really mind crowds (unless, of course we're packed in like a can of sardines or in one of those Japanese trains :rotfl2:), but part of the atmosphere at DL for me is watching other people. I guess a lot of my energy comes from other people. :cool1:

We were there last August also. What we did notice was the usual congestion in Adventureland down to Pirates (this usually occurred around 1-2). It was a good time to jump to DCA or take a break from the parks. We usually went back around 4-5 and it was more manageable then. Just be prepared to deal with crowds, and you should be fine.
