I'm taking DD to DLR to celebrate her 15th birthday. We are currently booked to stay at the Desert Inn & Suites. Is it worth it to pay twice as much for a room to stay at the Disneyland Hotel? I'm torn because DH wants me to keep it a budget trip, but, I think this will be the only time DD and I will be able to visit California just the 2 of us. We will be staying for 6 nights at the beginning of August. Thanks for any advice :goodvibes

**UPDATE** I booked the Ramada Maingate--we got a premium room for $129 per night :) :) Thanks to everyone for their advice--I just couldn't spend $300 per night for the hotel.

How 'bout a split stay ~ we've done this several times, most recently last weekend, we started out at the DLH for 2 nights and then moved somewhere much cheaper for our last 2 nights.

I second the split stay suggestion. I, personally, would have a really hard time paying for 6 nights at the DLH. It's a fun experience and I'm glad we finally tried it (for 3 nights), but knowing that I could stay somewhere else much cheaper and have as a good a time in Disneyland and still have "leftover" money for more treats and souvenirs makes me hesitant to spend a lot on the hotel most trips. If you do the split stay, try to time it to take maximum advantage of the early park entry for hotel guests (Sat, Sun, Tues, Thurs) if you are early risers. Also, this again is personal preference, I think my trip would end on more of a high note if I finished at the DLH rather than at the cheaper hotel, but I know many people aren't bothered by doing the reverse.

A split stay is a great idea! I'm having a hard time justifying almost $300 per night for the 2 of us :scared1: Does anyone have suggestions for something a little nicer than Desert Inn, but still close, and cost effective? Thanks :goodvibes

Do you know about the special summer room rates? I got a room at DLH for about $160. It's still not cheap...but it's way better than $300 per night!

Yep we spent last Fri & Sat night at the DLH so we got the MM both Sat & Sun morning ~ I really wish we could've saved our PH MM for Tues *our last day* but that didn't work.

I checked on the website and the quote I got was $289 (incl. tax) per night. It said summer room offer

I do remember noticing that the "summer" offer prices were much more expensive for July and August than June. That's why we did it in June. Perhaps Nala83 went in June too or just hit some lucky dates?

My dates are actually in September, but the "summer" deal covers my dates. It surprises me that it is twice as much. I wonder if they've sold out of the cheapest category of rooms for those August dates???

I agree with PPs- a split stay may work well for you. Have you checked PPH as well?

Ah, that explains your rates then. I noticed that they go back down come September. My brother got in on the summer deal for September and got better rates than I could have gotten back in June. Even with the "summer" deal, peak summer rates are still high. I think standard room rates with the summer deal when we went in June were $194. I ended up spending a little more and switching to the AP rate for the view room once I evaluated all my options. I had been considering July, but for the dates I wanted, the standard room rates on the summer offer were coming up at almost $300 and the AP rates weren't much better.

If we do a spliit stay we have our choice of GC or DLH. Which would you choose? GC is only $100 more than DLH. I thought I had the hotel all sorted out but, now am second guessing myself.

Fairfield Marriot rooms are nice (near McDonald's, Mimi's & Millie's)
Or maybe a Premium Room at Ramada Maingate (near Tony Roma's & has a good minimart on-site).

I'm looking into those right now :) How is the walk to Fairfield? I can get a room there for $129 per night. How about the walk to Ramada-- I can get a room there for $108 or a premium room for $199.

We love the DLH ~ it's my fave of the 3, the only thing I like about the Grand is the lobby which anyone can visit, our room was small and dark. If you go with the DLH request *it's not a guarantee* the Dreams tower ~ we always do and have gotten it for our 3 stays there.

We had booked at DLH but I ended up upgrading to GCH because it wasn't much of a price difference. There is a lot of construction going on at DLH and they will soon be working on the pool as well. As far as I understand, they already got rid of the waterfalls and the koi and we loved that atmosphere. I would go with GCH for just $100 more. You are steps away to the parks and I hear they have a great pool also. I can't wait to check it out! Have a great trip! You will have a blast no matter where you stay. You'll be at Disney! ;)
