Disneyland Hotel - worth the $$$?

We will be taking our first trip to DLRP in July (last minute addition to a Med. Cruise). Is the Disneyland Resort really worth the expense? It is almost $2000 USD just for the room for two nights. The NY is only about $1000. Opinions?

Also, any opinions in general on DLRP would be appreciated as we have done WDW dozens of times.

Thanks in advance!

Hi!

Do you mean the Disneyland Hotel? If the standard room really is double the $$$ than the standard room at Hotel New York, then definitively go for Hotel New York!

Disneyland Hotel is indeed a very special place, but Hotel New York offers a similar experience.

May I ask when you are going in July? If you go after the 14th the parks will likely be open until 11pm and there will be the Fantillusion nighttime parade and fireworks.

General opinions:
Don't miss Pirates of the Caribbean. It is different from the American versions, and most say it is better. You should consider having a meal in Blue Lagoon Restaurant. This is a great place right inside the pirates ride. You might also consider going to "Walt's - an American restaurant" on Mainstreet. Reservations are recommended, but a few days beforehand are usually sufficient. A not to miss attraction in the Studios is "Cinemagique" as it only exists in Paris.

I wish you a magical cruise and a pleasant stay at Disneyland Resort Paris!

sorry, yes I did mean Disneyland Hotel.

We will be going in late July - probably 23-25.

Also - what is the best way to get from Paris airport to Disney and then from Disney to Barcelona - any suggestions?

There is a regular shuttle bus service from CDG and Orly to DLRP (VEA.com) and I imagine you would have to return to the airport and fly to Barcelona :)

That's what I would think too. There's details of the VEA and private shuttle services in The Very Useful Info sticky.

Regarding staying at the Disneyland Hotel ~ I've not stayed here yet ;) but have read many people say the service is just as good at the Hotel New York. You're paying all those extra $$$ for the location but how wonderful would it to be to stay "in the park". :goodvibes

Another thing that is unique to DLRP is the resident dragon under the Castle and some beautiful stained glass windows in the gallery on the first floor.

If you can afford the DLH I would stay there. Having said that I really like the NY. We have stayed at the NY twice in the past and really enjoyed it. But for our next trip we have decided for us the extra is worth it as firstly we are going for a special occasion and we want to splash out a little! Secondly when ever we go we always eat at the restaurants in the DLH, plus always have an after park drink in the bar there. So I figured for us if we seem to do these things anyway we might as well stay there!
The NY is only a 5 minute walk to the parks through Disney Village. The breakfast is really good and the staff really friendly. The NY does seem a slightly more 'grown up' hotel as there is a large convention centre there so there are lots of business travellers there as well.
