Disneyland Hotel Reservations?

We already have ressies at Hojos for our trip next March, and I am stoked about staying there.....But I thought just out of curiosity I would check and see how much more it would cost us to stay at the Disneyland Hotel. I stayed there once in 1987(!) and I thought it would be fun to stay there with the kids if it is even remotely doable. We have two rooms reserved at Hojo, and I am thinking that if they have one suite room available (which may be me dreaming since it is only ten months-ish away) at not much more, we could think about it. The thing is, for some reason they won't let you check rates online for next year, it says "If you need info for dates past Jan. 1st, 2009, call our reservations line at ---" So I'd have to call and talk to a for real person.. ...I am temped to do so, just to see what is what.
But should I check rates on the room only (which is what we have at Hojo) or should I check into a package? I was thinking we'd buy our parkhoppers later on when we came on a deal, but is it cheaper going the package way?? Or am I living in a dream world thinking they'd even still have anything open for March?

I have not found that it is less expensive to do a package. Especially if you have any discounts that might work...if you think you might be back inside 365 days from the start of your trip then an AP would be good to get and an AP discount could be had...AAA discount...if anyone in your party is a senior citizen there's a discount for that... But other than booking a package through AAA you can't get any discounts listed above on a package.

But check into things, price it all out anyway.

Have you checked for packages through getawaytoday.com? If you have AAA or belong to Costco, have you checked for packages through them?

Once you've checked all that, then price it all out separately.

With the package, are the extras important to you? Of course the extras might change by then, but packages tend to come with preferred seating vouchers for things like Aladdin, Muppets, and 2 other things, vouchers for Mickey's ToonTown Morning Madness, AAA has some extras, etc. And lanyard and a pin for each person in the package.

Other good thing about staying onsite is that, unless they change things, you get MM for each day it's offered during your stay. (that's room only OR with a package)

But personally, I prefer to stay offsite, b/c the money saved can go towards many other good things.

Thanks Molly, you make some good points....I am still pretty much thinking that Hojo will get us more bang for the paltry amount of bucks we have.....I was just wondering if having two economy rooms is THAT much cheaper than one suite? Especially if that suite happens to be on the monorail route?
Okay, so not to be too indelicate and/or rude, but has anyone stayed at the DLH in a suite recently? If so, could that same anyone provide me with a ballpark as to how much they run per night? Even if someone wanted to PM with a number, that would help me a lot. That way I would know whether to keep pursuing this crazy daydream, or if the amount is too - - I could just drop it in good conscience.

Doesn't Hojo have a suite or two? Was it (were they) taken up already?

Is it just your family of 5? I used their ages as shown in your sig, and then also adding a year to each of them (got the same prices), but for September vs March, and each time ALL room types were shown.

This is what I got for prices, but early Sept is going to be LESS expensive than March.

BY THE WAY, did you notice that there's a "live chat" button on the reservation pages? Might be convenient if you don't mind chatting online.

I had a huge notebook full of all the costs, things offered, blah blah blah. It was crazy. Planning that first big trip was hard.

Adding the mom does change the room issue!

If your mom is over 60 you can get a 30% discount on up to two rooms. We have booked a trip this way in October but I am really having some regret, especially as I read they are doing a major refurb, or possibly tearing down, the DLH! I am having a really hard time spending that much on rooms that will be gutted or torn down not long after we are there, or while we are there!

Thinking of upgrading to the GC...
