Disneyland Hotel Rate

Does anyone know historically if there are usually discounts on the Disneyland hotels beginning of December?

I'd really like to make it work for our 1 night stay as a special treat, but I'm only seeing $400 and up a night (even checking dates a few months out).

There won't be any discounts in December necessarily. This last Dec (2015), there were some mid-week discounts, but I wouldn't count on it. Keep checking and you never know

Discounts seem to be fewer and fewer lately and the hotels still sell out. $400 a night for the DLH seems to be about the going rate unfortunately

You can always book the night you're interested in and wait and see if any specials pop up.
If they do you can call in and have the reservation updated to the special rate.
Once you are a few weeks from the trip, if the nightly rate isn't within the budget you can cancel and get a refund.

The best nightly rates are generally Sunday through Thursday.

Sounds like we'll be at a hotel across the street instead. $700 a night Canadian after taxes will be a bit too rich for me...

Check some of the travel websites like travelocity. I've seen some surprisingly good discounts there, but they tend to be very rare, so it's one of those things where you'd have to check often.
