Disneyland Hotel pool hopping

My husband and I are DVC owners and frequent the Disney World properties often. This is our first time going to Disneyland and we are wondering if pool hopping is something that is acceptable here! We usually just show our DVC member card and we can swim without problems. Is there any difference if you are staying off site? Any experiences?

Thanks!

You need your room key to get into the pools. They don't allow people to pool hop when they are staying at the DLR hotels, I don't think they'll allow people staying offsite to pool hop, even though they are DVC members. Your best bet, I think, is to talk to the DVC people at the hotels to find out if they make exceptions for members.

Maybe Toocherie might know since she is a dvc member, and active here.

Thanks Mary Jo! Staying off-site, I would think, would be a hard bet. They haven't yet opened the DVC resort part of the hotel so they haven't REALLY had the issue come up yet? Maybe? Maybe they have though, because I am sure plenty of DVC folks go. Thanks for the info!

I have a feeling you'll find the cast members at the hotel to be a little clueless because this is still pretty new to the DL Resort.

I will be staying at the Paradise Pier in June and wanted to try the pools at the other hotels. This isn't allowed? I've done this almost every time I've gone to WDW and pool hop with no problem. I wasn't aware this wasn't allowed? Is it not?

No, pool hopping is not allowed. I'm surprised you were able to do so at WDW, as that is a pretty hot topic. :)

In the past, the higher cost hotels could pool hop at the lower cost hotels, example, guests of Grand Californian could go to any pool, and guests of Disneyland Hotel could go to Paradise Pier Hotel, but from recent posts it looks like that might not be allowed.

Since the Paradise Pier Hotel is the least expensive, they would not allow pool hopping to the more expensive hotel pools.

Pool hopping isn't really allowed at WDW either. In other words, if you're caught at a hotel pool and you don't have a Key-to-the-World card to show that you're a guest there at that hotel, then you will be asked to leave. The only exception is for DVC members who want to use the pools at other DVC resorts.

However, at Disneyland pool hopping is not so easy because unlike pools at the WDW resort hotels, the pools at the Disneyland Resort hotels are fenced, gated and locked. You'll need a keycard from your hotel to gain access to the pool at your hotel, but your keycard will not work to open the gates at the other hotel pools. You could always follow other people into the pool area after they open the gate with their keycard, but lifeguards have been known to ask people to leave when they see people do this.

Wow, I guess I understand why they do this but I honestly think it's stupid, but rules are rules I guess. Isn't much you can do about it.

Back when I started planning our 9/2007 trip, in March of '07, the disneyland website clearly stated that PPH and DLH guests could hop between the two hotels, but only GCH guests could use the GCH pool. My stepmom, who has stayed at PPH often (before then) told me that it was totally allowed. But at some point before our September trip, that info disappeared from the website.

I remember in the past, we were told we could go to the Neverland Pool while we stayed at PPH by castmembers at check in. Has anyone asked and been told no?

That sounds about right. We stayed at DLH in August 2007, and when I had booked the room several months prior, I was told that we could pool hop. But when we actually got to the hotel, we were told it wasn't allowed.

Hello Fellow DVCer! You cannot pool hop at DL hotels! As posted poom keys are needed to enter the pool area! What DL hotel are you going to stay in?

Hello! Bum deal about the pool hopping, but that is okay--just different from what we can do in DW. I am actually thinking that we are going to stay off site given that there doesn't seem to be MUCH perk about staying on-site and the point usage is pretty high. It will be great when we can stay in the villas! Can't wait!

Is Grand Californian Villas your home resort? It will be awesome, I cannot wait either! :)

Our home resort is Saratoga Springs, but we have thought about a California Villa add-on. Is your home resort the GCV?

Fun!! We love DVC! I am guessing that they might start allowing pool hopping for DVC members once DVC becomes a fully established thing over here.

Yes, and AKV. We had to buy AKV in order to be first in line to buy GCV. Although, I am sure we will love AKV, we will spend more time at GCV.

We stayed at the AKV last year and really loved it! It was a little tough being a bit furthur out from everything as we like to walk most places, but it was really nice and the bathtubs were divine!!

And to bring it all back, haha, there is the pool hopping in DW, but it seems not so in DL, at least not yet.
