When travelling to Disneyland - would you stay onsite or offsite? We are a family of 5 travelling July 6 - 8 this year.

I had a room at Camelot inn right across the street last July. Had a family suite that had a bedroom with two queen beds
And another room with a king bed and a sofa bed. There was a small kitchen area with table and chairs, microwave, fridge. I only paid $170/night. It's literally a 7 min walk to parks.

I would and have stayed off site. The area is so very different from WDW/Florida and so many of the offsite hotels are within walking distance that it doesnt make a ton of financial sense to stay on site. Having said that, I did walk through the Grand Californian and it is very nice, and it is especially cool that there are rooms that literally look onto the park.

another vote for offsite. Even if I had the budget for onsite, I would still stay offsite , due to the walking distance. Yes its nice to be in that Disney bubble, but cost wise, it just does not make sense.

We've always stayed off site, there are so many hotels right across the street from the entrance, many offer free breakfast and free parking. To me the only hotel onsite to be worth it would be Grand Californian since it has an entrance right into California Adventure but I can't justify the prices :scared: Disneyland Hotel is right at the far end of Downtown Disney so it's a shlep and no closer to the entrance than any of the hotels on Harbour Blvd right across the street from the parks.

As others have said offsite is great way to save and a lot of good options. We Stayed Ramada maingate in December. Its now called the Grand Legacy . Very easy walk right across the street from the park entrance. Got great rates $85 per night. Would stay here again.

If money isn't an object, by all means stay onsite. However, with the dollar the way it is, a room at the Disneyland hotel is going to cost you over $600/night, closer to $700 for park view. That, to me, is insanity.

I just booked an offsite room for my DL trip, only about a block away. There are many great options and some really good rates available...which actually made a trip to DL a much better deal for me this year than WDW with the state of our dollar.

We booked off site because on-site at DLR doesn't seem to have the same draw as on-site at WDW. And we saved quite a bit but are still within walking distance.

Offsite for DL. There are so many on Harbor that offer free breakfast and are closer to the park than some of the Disney Hotels.

Last time we stayed at Dessert Inn & Suites and were upgraded from our two room suite to the two room with 2 full bathrooms and the extra parlor room. So we had 3 TV's and a extra 1/2 bath. Only thing was the coffee was bad (in room and breakfast room). My mom would go next door to Denny's and grab us coffee in the morning.

I also had Vons deliver groceries to the hotel. We packed sandwiches and some snacks for the parks. Also ordered some salads and snack items for us to enjoy in the evening.

We have always stayed off site at DLR - there are offsite motels that are closer than the onsite hotels - in fact, when I showed my kids how far away we'd be staying if we stayed onsite in WDW, they cringed, and we stay at the Hojo in Disneyland - so there is no real reason to stay onsite unless you really need that extra morning hour (going during a crazy busy time) or you have extra money you don't know what else to do with.

We're staying at the Hojo in May. It will be our first time staying offsite. I just couldn't justify the cost anymore. Used to be that Paradise Pier was at least somewhat reasonable, but that isn't the case anymore.

We've stayed onsite 4 times and offsite 6 times. We've been at all 3 of the onsite hotels and we actually prefer PPH to the other two. Offsite we have been at the Park Vue Inn 3 times, Desert Inn & Suites twice and Castle Inn once.

There are pros and cons of onsite as well as offsite, you will have to decide what is more important for you for this trip.

Price? Offsite wins every time.

If you need a suite, then offsite for sure. DI&S has really large suites and are a reasonable price.

If free breakfast is important, then I would stay offsite at the Park Vue Inn. The PVI also has some suites although they are not as roomy as some of the DI&S ones.

If you want to be able to get into DCA and DL early every day, then you will have to stay onsite. Given that you are going in July and it is going to be busy, I would be tempted to stay onsite if the cost is not out of reach. You will get one DL early entry on all 3, 4 or 5 day park hopper tickets but I have always found the early entry at DL is VERY busy.

Walking distance? Well, some offsite places are closer but I've never found the onsite walk to be long, even staying at PPH.

Pool? Either Hojo's or onsite, DI&S has an indoor pool that is a bit iffy and PVI's pool is outside but surrounded by the parking lot!

Want to be able to charge things to you room and have them delivered? Onsite.

With a family of 5, I would not recommend staying at GCH. We found that room to be the smallest of the 3 onsite hotels but depending on the ages of the people, you can fit all of you. We had a queen + bunk bed room and the 4 of us were fine. There was a trundle bed under the bottom bunk that would have worked for another child but it would have made for close quarters in the room. PPH we had 2 queens plus a day bed and it was nice and roomy. DLH, we had a 2 bedroom suite so that was a whole other experience but it seems as though they have the same 2 queen plus daybed that PPH has.

I always prefer to stay onsite if possible but have and will stay offsite happily!

Onsite we prefer: PPH then DLH then GCH.
Offsite we prefer PVI or DI&S.

We're staying at HOJO for the first time this August, I'm excited to try it out! Previously we've stayed at Castle Inn, BW Anaheim Inn, Camelot Inn and a couple of others along Harbour.

Totally recommend the Ayres Hotel Anaheim. Short drive to DL/DCA, free breakfast every morning and the resort is super clean/nice and the rooms are huge with a kitchenette! Loved our stay there. You can also see the fireworks from the resort if your room is high up and on the right side.

Second this-Ayres is a southwest hotel chain and it is lovely, the breakfast is fantastic and the rooms are very comfortable. We have stayed with them a few times and they are consistently very good, almost a boutique hotel feel.

Offsite, it's WAY cheaper, and some of the offsite hotels are closer than some of the Disney hotels. It just isn't worth the hefty price over there.IMO
