Disneyland Hotel - elsewhere

If we stay at the Disneyland Hotel, what's my best travel modes if we also want the see the Angels, Dodgers, tour LA/celebrity homes, and maybe the beach? Are there pulbic transportation options, or do you recommend renting a car?

There are buses, trains, metrolink and Amtrak to get around...

but driving would probably be a lot easier...

Yes, there is public transportation, but it is not that great. Southern Californian is definately a Car town. You have limited time for your vacation, rent a car, you will be happy you did. (I live in So Cal)
