 I did a search but cannot find a current thread about the Disneyland Hotel. If the last two nights of out GCV wait list doesn't come through, I might book the DLH because 3 nights is simply not enough. :teeth:

I know the hotel just underwent a face lift; is it complete?

What are the names of the towers now and what view does each tower have? Last time we stayed there I believe we stayed in the middle building (Marina maybe??) but that was waaay back in 2005.

The refurbed rooms look beautiful; do they have mini fridges and microwaves? What about coffee makers?

How about the new pool? I know it will be December but my wacky kids will swim in a heated pool even if there is snow on the ground (we live in Utah); is the pool worth checking out?

I know about Goofy's Kitchen and the coffee shop but are there any new dining places at the hotel? Room service? I know we'll be near DTD which has restaurants a plenty.

Any other insights/info would be great.

:thanks:

Nothing helpful cuz I've never stayed but I LOL'd about the swimming with snow and Utah. Mine too! haha

I will be there tomorrow and plan on posting pics and info when I return. I will note your questions, 'cuz they are a lot of the same ones I have :)

When we went 3 weeks ago they were working on the last tower (Wonder) as far as rooms go ... one pool is done they're working on the other one. Don't know what the official names are but we asked for "Dreams" tower and got it - it was the one closest to the parks facing DTD. Not sure if that's the old name or the new one. :lmao:

New monorail slide looks gorgeous. We booked a few nights before our VGC stay specifically to ride it (well, also VGC was sold out for the nights we wanted and didn't want to WL since it didn't come through last year). We will be in that pool in October and we're from Hawaii so used to warm but who cares! Its a new slide!
They do have mini-fridges, and coffee pots but no microwave. Have to wait for your Villa for that.

There's a new restaurant pool that just opened, Tangaroa Terrace at the pool. It looked really incomplete when we were there so I was shocked to find it opened less than a week after we left! There's some reviews of it around here somewhere ... supposedly the bar stools go up and down which I also want to check out!

I just stayed at the DLH last week. Two Towers are complete....the 3rd one with the main lobby and Goofys Kitchen is only about 3 floors done but i dont think they put anyone in that tower anyway so you will get a renovated room for sure.

New waterslides play area is nice, but the slides are really not that big...made for kids mainly. There is one 4 foot pool still open, but the rest of it it being renovated.

We stayed on the outside of the Dreams tower facing DTD. Had a nice view of the fireworks show everynight. I would request a room like that. If you stay on the inside towards the pool, it might be more noisy from the pool construction.

There is also a new eatery by the pool that is open and its nice. They serve burgers and Chicken sandwhiches with a Hawaiian flavor.

This is our Hotel of Choice...our first time at the Disneyland hotel was 1970...and except for one time at the GCH ... this is the only place we stay...
Here is a site with some great informaton and updates: http://www.mouseinfo.com/forums/dlr...school-paradise-gardens-renamed-dl-hotel.html

I hope this site is OK to post here?

The Towers have been renamed again...Marina to Magic now FANTASY; Sierra to Dreams now ADVENTURE and Bonita to Wonder now FRONTIER.

Love Room Service...

That would be great! Have a magical trip. pixiedust:

:thanks: When I called MS today they said they both the PPH and DLH are completely open that week, all room catagories. I didn't book yet because once I convert those points to hotel points, there's no converting back or banking even if I cancel before the deadline. I think I'll play the waiting game for another month.

A new pool restaurant sounds terrific! :thumbsup2

Awesome, great info! I love facing DTD so it sounds like that's the tower I want. Glad to know I'll get a refurbed room for sure. :woohoo:

I also love room service especially for breakfast! :worship: I believe it was the sierra tower we stayed in, not marina. Do you know the different views between towers?

:cool1: Thank you , thank you!!!! Going to check it out now.

The last tower getting the refurbed rooms is Fantasy(magic), which is closest to the M&F parking structure. It's where check in and lobby and gift stores are. The other two towers are completely done. The view: One side faces "inward" to the pool. The other side faces outward to the parking lot. However on this side, you also can end up with a fireworks view.

The 2nd tower is Dreams, not Adventure. Inside faces the pool. Outside faces into downtown disney/across the street to the Grand Californian. Also partial fireworks from the "downtown disney" view rooms.

Last tower- and furthest "away" is the Wonder/Frontier tower. Inward faces pool, the standard view rooms face the parking lot/towards Paradise Pier Hotel.

Sams Trader (new bar) has gotten really good reviews for drinks/atmosphere and light food). Monorail slides look awesome. However the pool area is not done yet.

We just returned from a 3-night stay at DLR. Two nights at VGC and one at PPH because we waited too long to book DLH on points. I was holding out for the VGC waitlist too, but sadly it did not clear. Anyhow, I was also holding a GCH cash reservation and cancelled that and then called to book DLH and it was full, so I got a PPH room. Having never stayed there, I would say it was adequate, but the elevators are ridiculously slow (which I read prior to staying there, so I was not surprised).

Anyhow, I walked over to the DLH to see the pool and construction areas. The pool area looked nice and the slides seemed popular. I took some photos but haven't taken them out of the camera yet. The ones others have posted are a lot better, probably. I really wanted to stay there, oh well. There are construction walls up here and there but they seem to do a good job keeping it looking clean. I heard from a friend who stayed there that he had to walk around the construction, which was a bit inconvenient, but that the new rooms were lovely. I'm sure you will love it as your backup accommodations :).

I won't stay at the PPH again. Used to love it but our one night last June was no bueno and not up to Disney standards. I know not to wait to long to book the DLH using points. How does a cash reservation work other than obviously you pay cash? Do DVC members get some sort of discount? Is the cash rate for a Villa or regular room?

I'm grateful for the 3 nights at the GCV that we've got booked and honestly not sure we'd do more than 3 days of Disneyland but at least I want the option. :lmao:

-Renovation still going on on the last tower.
-I would personally try and stick with GCV... and avoid PPH... no idea on the renovated rooms at DLH, last stay there was 4 yrs ago.

-DTD will be literally 5 mins away from all 3 hotels... plenty of food options there. Try restaurants dot com, enter zip code for anaheim, there will be plenty of restaurants offering hugely discounted gift certificates. I'm not 100% sure, but I remember House Of Blue right in DTD had a $25 gift cert selling for $2-4. If you have a rental car, might be worth while to see what discounts you can get at the near by restaurants.

I am trying to stay with the GCV and have 3 nights there already, just doing some research in case we extend the vacation and the last 2 nights don't come through. Thus far we'll arriving on Nov 23 and staying with my BFF for 4 nights then moving to the GCV for 3 nights. With driving the vacation sits at 8 days and truly not sure if DH can take more time than time. :goodvibes

The PPH isn't even on the table. If we were paying cash I'd choose the HoJo over the PPH. :thumbsup2

There isn't a DVC discount for regular "cash" reservations. I bought a PAP thinking I would need it for a room discount, but then booked the PPH using points so didn't need the reservation or the PAP in the end. I booked a standard view room at the GCH with an AP discount for $365.04 and had until 5 days out to cancel for a full refund. I could have booked the DLH for $325 but at the time I was worried about the construction, and moving from a villa to a standard room seemed like less trouble than moving from one hotel to another. I also didn't really want to pay $15 for parking on top of those rates.

In the end, we used points for the PPH so parking was included. I have a PAP that I don't really need, but we tried to use it for food and shopping discounts. Trouble was, my DH and I split up a lot and so half the food did not get the discount. Annoying, but oh well. I need to use it a lot more to get my $459 worth.

Good luck with the waitlist. We were on it from January to June. I checked every day while we were there in case someone didn't show up, and was willing to leave the PPH room empty and use more points if a villa popped up, just so we wouldn't have to move. After we did move (bell services moved our bags, which was convenient), I didn't have any bowls or spoons or forks for our breakfast on our checkout day...we are so used to timeshares and kitchens that I didn't think to bring that stuff for our hotel stay :upsidedow. I went down to checkout and forgot to get a spoon, then had to wait for the elevators again to get a spoon. By then, DD was eating a granola bar instead and didn't need the spoon.

Next year, I will know better .

Such a pain. :headache: I'm shocked and grateful I got even three nights the week following Thanksgiving. pixiedust:

Thanks for the reminder though about those little things that DVC offers like utensils etc....:thumbsup2

Just called MS again. I am stalking them. :yay: Still no room at the GCV but fully open at the DLH. Not sure how long I should wait before booking. I bet something will open at the GCV the minute I book the DLH. :upsidedow

We did the same thing last June hoping our last minute night would open at the GCV but nada. DH thought I was nuts to keep checking.............until he used the paper thin towels at the PPH pool. :rotfl:
