Disneyland Honeymoon

Fiancée & I are flying out to DL on 2/9 for our honeymoon. The plan is to stay at Grand Californian Resort & get park hoppers.

We're newbies, but seasoned WDW vets so we have a few questions...

Is a 3 day park hopper enough?

Can we walk to both parks?

We're foodies. What are the best restaurants? A couple of signatures would be nice (both vegetarians and I loooove me some wine)

What's the weather like in February? I'm very cold natured, and even had to buy a jacket our last visit to WDW back 3 weeks ago.

I've never been out west, or on a plane, so I'm very excited!!

If you can, I'd do five days (or at least 4) to be able to see everything you want. I think this is especially true if you are planning on doing TS meals, as they can eat up A LOT of park time! Remember that DLR has just as many attractions in its 2 parks as WDW has in 4!

You can walk to everything in DLR, you will be absolutely shocked how close everything is. You don't even need to rent a car if you don't want to, just take a taxi from the airport for a flat rate of around $45. Works great! If you aren't planning on seeing anything else in SoCal, I think it's the way to go.

Our favorite TS restaurant is Carthay Circle inside DCA. I would also recommend Blue Bayou, simply because it's an "only in Disneyland" experience. The food is pretty good, not great, but the setting can't be beat! Napa Rose and Steakhouse 55 are also favorites, both in hotels, so those are great options too.

Napa Rose Chefs Counter is the choice of foodies
The chefs will accommodate any dietary requirements. It's good that you are staying at the GCH, since you would not be able to drive (I could hardly walk) after the generous wine pairing

You should do at least 4 days and yes from the GCH you can easily walk to both parks. GCH has its own California Adventure entrance.

A 5 day hopper ticket would be my choice. It would give you time to see and do most everything in both parks.

The GCH is so nice, the walk to the parks is only a few minutes.

On our first stay there, the room we had was a farther walk from the lobby than it was from the lobby to the front gates. Since then I have learned to request a room near the elevators.

February in SoCal isn't too bad. The daytime will be warm and cool once the sun goes down. Staying at the GCH will make it easy to drop in and change for the evening if you get cold. No need to pack a jacket around all day. The other nice thing about the location, is if you get too wet on GrizzlyRiverRun or SplashMt it a short walk to dry clothes.

Thanks for all the replies! I really appreciate them! I spent most of the night last night looking at they Hydroguy's tips, and looking at menus.

We'll definitely remember the Just Married pins! We were just engaged a few weeks ago on 9/10 while eating at Cinderella's Royal Table right before fireworks. We went straight to City Hall to pick up our Just Engaged pins for remainder of trip

3 days is a bare minimum. I would do more, unless you plan on doing other California excursions. 4 days would be best - two days in each park.

Yes, you can walk from park to park, and early February will be pretty light crowds except on the weekends which are always crowded. The weather will be nice, but have a cool edge in the mornings and evenings - much more so than Orlando. Here on the Pacific we have something we call "wind", and it brings in cool breezes. Something the Gulf doesn't do.

For food on a honeymoon, you can't pass up Blue Bayou for romance. Pricey, but very romantic. Can't help you on the veggie part. How do you survive in TN and not eat pork?

As far as being a veggie in TN, I'm the black sheep of the family now! I grew up in a very meat and potato based family. However, I will admit that when I first became one, almost a decade ago, bacon was the hardest thing EVER to give up! Fiancee is from PA, but wasn't a vegetarian until I got a hold of him. Bwahahaha!!

So exciting!! . We went for our honeymoon 15 years ago and most people thought it was ridiculous to go there and not some beach somewhere but we loved every second of it. February is such a good time to go. We went our first time with our kids then and the crowds were so low and the weather was perfect (for us Canadians anyway).

Definitely go for 4-5 days if you can. It will give you time to relax and get everything in. It "seems" small coming from WDW but there are a TON of things to do and see that even when we go with 5 day passes, we still run out of time it seems.

You will be cold in February, if you are coming from a hot climate. When we went, we wore pants and sweaters most days but locals were in jackets and even toques (knit hats for you Americans ).

And as others have said, park hopping takes about 5 minutes, from one gate to the other. We "wing it" when we go so we're constantly going back and forth, depending on where the kids want to go next. It's not the most "efficient' way to do Disney, but it's so relaxing and fun for us. I hate planned vacations. Totally defeats the purpose of a vacay for me.

We aren't foodies and prefer to spend more time playing but we all loved Flo's in Carsland and Cozy Cones is great for a snack anytime.

It's not high class, but you should not miss the Fried Green Tomato Sandwich and Sweet Potato Fries at Hungry Bear. It's my favorite meal in DLR after the corn dog.

Congrats on your marriage and your awesome selection for a honeymoon. Napa Rose has wonderful service and food/wine are marvelous. One thing I would say about Chef's Counter though is that is it not very romantic. You sit side by side and face the kitchen and get to talk with all the chefs. That is very interesting and lots of fun, BUT if you want to look deeply into eachother's eyes and thank the heavens that you found one another and whisper sweet nothings, than the there are much more suitable romantic and private tables in restaurant. Overall, I think Disneyland can be very romantic, especially at night when everything is lit up. Don't miss an evening stroll through NOS, or night time ride on Storybookland Canal Boats, or neon lighting "ceremony" at dusk in Carsland where you can dance to Life Could Be A Dream with your honey.
