I think I'm going to do the Disneyland Half. :yay: For all of you WISHers who went down there the last year or two - where would be a good place to stay? I really don't want to pay the prices to stay on site. Also, I'd like to stay somewhere close so I could walk to the start/finish area.

Any suggestions? :teeth:

Anabella hotel. You can walk to the race, walk to the parks, Downtown. We park our car and never use it til we go home. It's a decent place and we really like it. The hotels surrounding DL can be questionable on quality. Once we found the Anabella we stopped gambling with the rest.

Thanks, Buttercup! I'll check it out.

There are *so* many hotels right near the parks! I've been the last 2 years, and with airfare for me and the kids, I can't quite justify the price of the Disneyland onsite hotels, especially when there are several good ones right across the street from the main entrance.

This year I think I am going to look at the Best Western Park Place Inn -- it is literally across the street from DL and I know several people have stayed there. The Candy Cane Inn is also very popular, and right next to the park as well.

If you go to http://disneyland.disney.go.com/dis...rHotelsComparisonPage&ResortCompareDropDown=3
you can see a map that shows where various "good neighbor" hotels are and compare all the amenities. Even the ones that look far are within walking distance (we stayed at one a few long blocks away last year) plus they have a great resort trolley system, but as you can see there are so many on Harbor and Katella right near the park entrances that you should be able to roll out of bed and walk to the starting line within 10 minutes or so.

Hope to see you there! I'll be the one in the lime green WISH shirt. :thumbsup2

Anabella is on the backside of CA Adventure. It's only slightly farther than PP. It was a dream walking to the start compared to the WDW races. Also, DH just walked out the front of the hotel and was able to see me right after the start.

I made my ressie and am hoping my training goes well.

Okay, I am definitely going to look into Anabella then! For some reason the hotels on Katella always seem farther away to me than the ones on Harbor, but looking at the map, it seems like Anabella is actually closer to the start of the race.

And yes, getting to the start of the race is delightful compared to the WDW ones! That extra bit of sleep is wonderful.

Good luck -- hope the training goes well for you, and the weather is cooler this year!

We stayed in Grand Californian and it was well worth it after the race. It was a great walk to the start and from the finish. When we go again, we will definately stay there for the race weekend.

Bill, I've actually stayed there before and had a park view - concierge level. N-I-C-E! However, I was quoted $405 for a standard view for this trip and I just can't justify it - especially since there so many cheaper options really close by. But, it is N-I-C-E! Did I say that already? :teeth:

I had thought about the Best Western Plark Place because it looks like you can walk across the way between the two parks. But then, the Anabella looks like a straight shot from the other direction. It's good to have choices. But, as Buttercup mentioned, you never know what you're going to get by way of some of these hotels.

I think we're going to need to get a list going of who's all going to participate. Erica - I'll be wearing the lime green Wish shirt as well. :thumbsup2

One option to consider would be to stay onsite for the night right before the race and the rest of your stay will be offsite. For me, we stay at the DL hotel the night before and by doing so, it allows a super close walk to the start and a not-so-far walk after the race. The rest of our stay is at one of the surrounding hotels. Because of the high rates for Disney property hotels, we have been doing this for the past couple of years. It works for us...

In 2006 a bunch of us WISHers stayed at the Candy Cane Inn. It was within easy walking distance of the parks, although there was a shuttle if you wanted a ride. We liked it a lot.

I second the Candy Cane - stayed there in our LA stop over at New Years too and really like it (not least because the pool was still warm enough to swim in when it was 10 degrees outside!)

i stayed at americas value inn a few streets away, it was not a beautiful hotel but it has a bed and it was cheap. the only thing is the 2 bedroom, one room is when you walk in and the other looks liek another tiny room w/ no windows. not great but a bed :)

Anaheim Desert Inn & Suites, or Del Sol on Harbor Blvd. Right at the crosswalk to the parks.

Where does the race start? I am thinking it is the same parking lot that they start the walk for Children's Hospital. Somebody posted a map, but I am map reading challenged:rotfl:

I am hoping so because I am staying at Disneyland Hotel.

You are golden, Michelle. My starting corral was over by the big parking garage (well down from it, but I could see it) just a short walk past the Disneyland Hotel, on the far side of DTD from the parks. And the finish line is right near the hotel (you go through DTD and make a right just before the hotel, as i recall).

:cheer2: Thanks for the info. That's what I was hoping!

This year makes our third Disneyland half marathon. Those castle medals are nice bookends to my Goofy medals!

I'm there with my racing mate Marcia, her mom, and another friend Karen. We were all there last year. Two others who were with us last year can't make it this year.

I'll keep running this, I hope that when year 15 rolls around (2021), they offer a perfect 15 medal like at the Mickey Marathon this year.

I'm booked at the Desert Inn and Suites just past the crosswalk on Harbor Blvd. ParkVue and Del Sol Inn are on either side of Desert Inn. Here's a good map of the hotels around Disneyland.

Howard Johnson's is another 5 minute walk down the street. Checkout the mousesavers.com discount webpage.

We definitely have to have a WISH meet at the Expo or somewhere in the park.

Has anyone ever stayed at the Super 8 on W. Katella?? I have a rate of $59.00/night for Friday % Saturday, and $52.00 for Sunday! How awful will it be? I've never stayed in a Super 8 in ANY city--are they normally clean? That's my biggest concern.
Thanks!
Katie

I have stayed at the Best Western Stovall's Inn on Katella and Best Western Mini Suites on Harbor. Both were nice but I usually stay at BW's. In April I will be staying at the Ho Jo (for a Ladies only trip http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1626753 ) so I will let you know how it is. I will probably wait until after the Ladies trip to book for August.
