Hey All!

I will be at Disneyland for my first this Sept for 8 days and wanted to get an idea of what are some of the must haves in terms of food. Steakhouse 55, Blue Bayou, and Carthay are already on my list. As are the corn dogs.

Any other recommendations would be great!

  • Plaza Inn - Fried Chicken
  • French Market - Beef stew or the chicken plate, both delicious
  • Troubadour Tavern - stuffed baked potatoes
  • Churro's obviously
  • Soft serve cones from DCA - can be found at the cozy cone or the ice cream stand on the pier across from Lamplight Lounge
  • Cozy cones - Bacon mac and cheese in a bread cone
  • Sourdough bread from Boudin in DCA. My favorite way to eat it is with some butter.

Wow 8 days at Disneyland. I hope you plan to see other parts of our great state as 8 days at Disneyland would get a little boring IMO. Food at Disneyland is a lot more simple than Disney World. The counter services our actually quite decent. They just don't have as many table service options as DW since it is a lot smaller. We love the corn dogs and we also like the River Belle but haven't been back there since it changed to a TS. If your looking for upscale then Napa Rose is your place for sure. Have a great trip and enjoy our beautiful state. Just a heads up our weather in September can sometimes be really hot so be prepared for that also.

If I can handle Orlando in the summer I think I will be fine haha! And thanks! Two of those 8 days are half days due to flights and with the Halloween party and Galaxy's Edge, as well as it being our first time we just wanted a lot of time.

Rancho Del Zocalo at DL is a must for us. I love their tacos and burritos. It's counter service, but the setting is very pretty.

I also really like White Water Snacks at Grand Californian. Nice respite from the crowds at the parks.

Tortilla Jo's in Downtown Disney is great. Awesome customer service. Their tableside guacamole is AMAZING. Love their margaritas too.

8 days is amazing!

I would recommend going through Disney's website. Most of the restaurants have their menus listed so you can see what they are serving. 8 days will give you a chance to try just about everything!

We will be there in September as well and plan to go to Napa Rose, Carthay Circle, Wine Country Trattoria, Blue Bayou, Steakhouse 55 for our sit down dinners. Debating River Belle Terrace and Hungry Bear for the Fantasmic dining package. But will also hit up FLo's V8 Cafe, Award Weiners, Plaza Inn, Cocina Cucamonga, Cozy Cone Motel, Cafe Orleans, Red Rose Tavern and the new restaurants in SWGE.

Just to second some of the previous posters ideas: Plaza Inn for fried chicken, Bengal BBQ for any of their skewers, Flo's V8 for the french toast, Cafe Orleans for the monte cristo and anything at Rancho del Zocalo are all my must do's whenever we go to Disneyland.

Im staying at GC so I definitely at least want to try the nachos at White Water!

I definitely will be trying the SW:GE but I am waiting to see what access is like by Sept til I commit to anything haha. Im definitely hoping for some sort of VIP or After Hours event.

I was planning on doing Blue Bayou for the F! dinner package

When in September are you going? HalloweenTime is slated to start on September 6th, so there will probably be some specialty items for that "season".

Other favorites of mine include:
  • Plaza Inn (CS) - Fried Chicken
  • Carnation Cafe (TS) - Fried Dill Pickles & the meatloaf
  • Cafe Orleans (TS) - Pomme Frites & Seafood Gratin
  • Red Rose Tavern (CS) - Slow Cooked Beef Poutine & Grey Stuff (which is different from the BOG version)
  • Mint Julep Bar (CS) - Mickey Beignets (sometimes they have a seasonal flavor)
  • Jolly Holiday (CS) - Raspberry Rose Macaron (pretty much any of the desserts), Tomato Basil Soup
  • Award Wiener (CS) - Funnel Cake Fries
  • Carthay Circle Restaurant (TS) - House Biscuits
  • Lamplight Lounge (TS) - Piggy Wings

While I generally agree that if you can handle Orlando in the summer, you'll probably be okay at DLR, but keep in mind that DLR is usually a different "kind" of heat; it's usually a dry heat, which as it's own issues (like surfaces can get hot to the touch!). Also, DLR doesn't have as many large A/C locations or indoor queues as WDW, so be sure to wear a hat and have plenty of water with you.

I second the mac and cheese in a bread cone. I tried that for the first time in March and now I'm hooked. :lovestruc

Thank you! That is good to note. I have asthma so I think the dry heat will be very welcome! I guess this is a good excuse to buy some new disney hats!

We do Disneyland frequently, and we enjoy our longer trips! We do 2 weeks at Christmas, and never feel like it is too long.

Steakhouse 55 is fantastic. Also, check out French Market, we enjoy the food there. In DCA, Pacific Wharf has some good sandwiches and bead bowls. Soo good, my daughter had me bring her back a turkey pesto sandwich last week!

If you could only do one between Carthay and Napa, which do you prefer?

Oh that's a tough call but for me, I would go to Napa Rose if I could sit at the chef's counter. I would chose that experience over Carthay but that is just me. We did it several years ago, we sat at the counter and opted for the option where you don't order off menu. You tell them what your food aversions are (example my ex-step son doesn't eat tomatoes) and then they brought each of us different courses throughout the seating. You get to watch the kitchen actives while enjoying what are seemed to be small samples of menu items and some non-menu items. I want to say including the bread course it was 5 or 6 overall courses? Like I said it's been 4 years since I last ate there.
