Hi all!

For those who have been on the Disneyland and Southern California Escape, how much "time on your own" is there during that day that says "spend the afternoon exploring Disneyland on your own" before the scheduled dinner? Is there enough time for us to book a lunch somewhere, and around what time? Thanks!

I assume you are talking about Day 3. You won't have much free time. We had about an hour to get lunch on our own before the afternoon activities. Once those finished, "on your own" time started around 3pm. On my trip the dessert event started around 6pm. And then you have World of Color.

Don't reserve a lunch. You'll be scrambling to get something from a quick serve place.

You can see details in my report:

As always, your mileage may vary, but on my previous trip for this, the amount of time you have to yourself is limited. I was there when Galaxy's Edge had just opened, so they gave us extra time on our own there, but that was more the exception than the rule. At the time, you had to go star wars launch bay to get a ticket or wristband to be able to enter Galaxy's Edge at all. You would have thought they would have gotten the wristbands for us, but all of us had to go launch bay, and then galaxys edge. It was a hot day too. so probably 20 minutes was spent on doing that.

Most of the time, it seems the on your own time is usually around an hour, maybe two tops.

Now of course, there is no requirement to join back with the group, but you would miss out on stuff. The guides would be willing to work with you, and tell you where you can meet back up with the group if it makes sense.

Especially in the park, there is so much stuff that is not directly disclosed in the description that you end up doing (probably because the stuff you do can change), that eats up a lot of time, that you would think you would have otherwise. These things that you can do are typically stuff that you wouldn't be able to do otherwise, so they are well worth it.
