Disneyland DVC Member Lounge

I haven't seen this posted so wanted to share our experience with the lounge today. We had a larger party and were told it would probably be around a 30 minute wait unless we were ok splitting up. We said we would split, although we ended up being able to all use one area when we got upstairs by pulling a chair over.

I don't know when it started but they're now doing assigned seating "to be more consistent with WDW and for safety reasons". I was tired and hungry so didn't feel like asking questions but I was thinking of all things, this is what you're trying to make consistent?

the assigned seats started sometime in July. They have a new manager and she came from WDW. From talking to some of the staff they are not happy about it as the open seating was working just fine before. They were having some over crowding issues early in the summer due to the heat so I think that was part of why it started.

I completely understand why they made the policy. I’ve been there when people have spread their stuff out over an entire area and acted incredibly selfish. “I paid x amount for this privilege and should be able to take up as much space as I want.”

We have used a few hundred clorox or baby wipes to clean up after the prior family when getting a spot at the lounge over multiple trips/visits. My kids aren't saints but we do our best to clean up at least 99% of the lays chips that don't make it to their intended destination.

I do hope I won't regret the change. It was nice to be able to meet new people and socialize in the room. Also, how do they deal with the family who has a mix of parents who want to relax but the little ones want to be around that TV watching the cartoons.....?

As they declare more rooms at VDH, you're going to see an increased interest in, and more visitors at, the lounge. Rolling out assigned seats before it gets too crowded just makes sense. I just hope they continue to allow you to bring food up there (however getting there and finding a waitlist while holding a tray of hot food wouldn't be ideal). As an OC local, I have definitely seen a gradual increase in the number of people using the lounge since it opened and there are days now where it does fill to the point where you need to sit on the terrace rather than choosing to do so, which wasn't the case early on.

ETA: If you've been in the lounge, you know it has an inside seating capacity that's the same as or maybe a bit larger than the Epcot lounge, yet it has been "filling up" recently (or at least filling up with a similar number of people as the Epcot lounge) with a tiny fraction of the number of DVC rooms in DLR compared to WDW.
